Luckily people don't become 'pros' otherwise I'd be out of a job. For msot it's still a case of putting the CD/DVD in the drive and clicking next a few times.

Guru? Nah. Just someone who isn't ranting about a company going about their business because I'm upset they do it too well for me to download the software it's their business to protect Cool

It's easy really. Has Starforce Pro been cracked? Isolated examples yes, the protection itself no because a generic crack is impossible. Are most of the visitors to Nforce people whose knowledge of protection technologies extends no further than knowing what settings to put into Alcohol 120% when running a clone? Yep. Cause they don't really care as they just want to know what's available so they can search Bittorrent sites / Usenet for them.

Anyway what unfounded accusations can we throw at Protection Tech this month? Next month in the Starforce Saga: Starforce 3.7.x made my PC glow green then explode in a thermonuclear implosion levelling a city block.

Oh btw yes I am a Starforce fan, their software does its' job extremely well, it's only right to appreciate quality work, just as I appreciate a quality piece of reversing work in undoing the protections as well Smile

It is certainly possible to crack it, however the barriers to it and time required are just soooo high that you need therapy if you even consider attempting to crack a well protected SF3 game. I have, and look what it did to me *glares @ a certain Protection Tech dev who reads this forum* Very Happy

Don't remember saying I was a developer. I'm nothing to do with the software protection industry at all apart from an interested onlooker.

Thanks for confirming what I was saying though, you seem a little upset at me using the phrase "bunch of wannabe geeks / pirates ill-informed" then describe most of what's posted as spam. Go contradict yourself some more dude Wink

Lack of appreciation of humour / sarcasm funny as well Wink

Stick to the OT area Smile

It would be nice to flood their forum asking 'when they're going to release a new SFnightmare' or similar questions like "I play downloaded SCCT, but I dont want to unplug anything anymore, please help". :)

@Sage386:

If StarForce is so confident about its own greatness, why isn't there any $1000++ award for cracking it Wink I know I know... because people would crack it in 10 different ways and you (company) would look stupid.

Meh define cracking though Duck, if you said it were to completely decompile and understand that'd be a bit of a mare.

Apart from that weird marketing I've been told by a SF member of staff they don't and have never considered it uncrackable it's only there to raise the cost in terms of time and skill to the point where no-one can be bothered or it'll last long enough for sales to peak and drop again.

They even advocate a future patch removing the protection all together, or release of an unprotected EXE, which has been done in places.

I can only think that press release didn't go through the techy department before release as it is clearly incorrect and the only uncracked protection is the one no-one has written yet.

Wow, that's fun. Just started reading about this whole starforce shit...
Bought a new pc just before xmas, so not many games have been installed since: hl2, doom3, nfsmw, Q4, PES5 and that's all I think...

So today I went to device manager, to check if I don't happen to have any starforce crap in my pc...and guess what - I do...

Hmmm, could it have been installed with that piece of shit TOCA race driver 3 demo? Smile

Screw you guys. I'm going home.

Whos ass got owned? I dont see POP3, King Kong, ancient SCCT and many other SF protected games cracked. 4,5 GB clones? Unplugging shit? Oh please...Btw those people "with brains" dont buy games anyway, starforce or not. You maybe hate SF because you like free games, but that just proves SF is the best copy protection on the market today. И не хуй ругаться.

clone is enough for me & i don't give a crackus about cracks as long as clone works so it's owned, go back to school
ppl with brains like yours should realize that if nobody will buy games without sf there won't be any soon

Yes clones are maybe good enough for you and me and many visitors of this site but they are still not good at all for thousands of regular users and the most important thing pirates cant steal developer's money anymore, at least its much more difficult for them now.
So its your turn to go to school now to understand the main and basic purpose of every copy protection. SF is really good at protecting software that makes you and many other people pissed off. I like free games too thats why i am here on nforce but i admit SF is doing its job very well. You may hate it its your right it doesnt change anything anyway Smile
Peace Smile

Maybe, but once again: whats the main purpose of any copy protection? Pirates sell Fahrenheit and other Tages protected games everywhere here. They just made an installer that automatically installs all the necessary tools like tetrisemu etc so its just 2 clicks to run the copy every n00b can do it. Can you write the tool that automatically unplugs drives from your PC ?

that's a merely scsi blacklist and tages devs are not so arogant to implement it too.
don't worry, start to blacklist all ide drives u'll need that

not true tages isn't harder , if Tages uses such an strong quard system like starforce also with vm and ring0drivers then yes but as its now nope. it hasn't been cracked for a while cause for crackers its useless to put time in an pretty time consuming protection that is used for only a couple of games a year. also don't forget the crackers who did cracked the few Tages games out there aren't in the scene anymore, but they might come back some day.
