Yeah, I actually made time to watch the film in the theatre . Definitely worth it! Denis Villeneuve and Roger Deakins elevated the film to another level.
Gosling was also great and in fact the only negative was that the film was too connected to the first film whereas it should have had only a few
references. I mean come on... Harrisson Ford plays as a grumpy old timer again. He doesn't even need to act for that
1 and 2 are still amazing.

webdl and web are kinda two different things. web-dl is basically the best digital format. youre being a fussy bitch if youre looking to tell it apart from a bluray.
i should know, im a fussy bitch and i do it all the time.

@chiv
Well, generally 1080p web-dls are a bit blurrier and have less of details than 1080p blurays, but the quality is still really good.

well i know that. as i said, im a fussy bitch but you have to get close to the screen to see it. viewing across the living room at a big tv when the video is playing, youre not going to be lamenting at the improved experience youd be having with a bluray rip.
unless youre a fussy bitch, i guess.

They usually add grain to Bluray releases in post-production, so it takes higher bitrate to get near-transparent H264 rip compared to WEB-DL (on the other hand, H265 deals with grain differently due to much larger macroblocks so picture gets blurrier as bitrate gets lower, instead of morphing into a blocking mess as with H264).
However, rumor has it that Apple does iTunes web releases straight from masters before they get postprocessed for Bluray, thus the lack of grain and far better compressibility (but they are known to starve the bitrate too much). Yet I still haven't seen x264 Bluray rip comparable to iTunes WEB-DL at the same bitrate, obviously because x264 Bluray groups simply have to fight the grain.

pretty normal for webdl.. theyre usually around 3gb for a normal length movie, so... yeah and surprisingly the quality is pretty solid.

All 1080s are 5 gigs regardless of length is what I've noticed.
Have you been downloading 720s?

i see beyond skyline, bushwick and bullet head 1080 webdls on my hdd and both are around 3.5gb... oh i see what happened to monday is about 6, but yeah, ive seen plenty of 3-4gb 1080 webdls that look perfectly acceptable and are around the 3-4gb mark for 1080s..
either way, as with many films, it can differ. you probably wont see much of an improvement in quality in the video of blade runners webdl if you upped the filesize.

I would give it 8/10. Amazing shots, cgi, art design. Could be 10/10 if it has better story....
I mean
Spoiler: | where is an ending? What happened to Wallace vs K, Dekard and that (30yo) kid? Wallace's T-X got killed and Dekard met his kid, but thats barely an ending, the main plot remain unfinished... wtf

Did this movie need subtitles at all by chance? Just wanted to verify.

Nope. The little bit of foreign language in the movie has hardcoded subs.
Btw guys, I really love this movie. Can I get more like this, please?
Saw 2 things in the script I would have loved in the movie though... too bad we'll apparently never get the 4 hour cut. I'd kill for that.
In the script but cut from the movie (heavy spoilers):
Spoiler: |
1) When memory diving with Ana they experience a memory where K almost drowns in the sea, supposed to make him fear the sea.
I feel like that increases the impact of the finale in the movie beyond the seawall when K decides to save Deckard.
2) At the end when K lies dying in the snow, he briefly remembers Joi asking him to read to her, which makes him smile, and then he recites his baseline poem (which is from that book Joi asked him to read in the beginning. must be very important to him), ever slower and weaker until he dies. I think it would have fit quite beautifully.
I suppose they didn't want to show him clearly dying even though it's clear that must be his fate with all those wounds... poor bastard, man.
he suffered so much.
|
I'm thinking 9/10 but then I'm thinking.... I just don't see the flaws (just for me personally, opinion!)
Trollpower deducts points for lacking resolution of the main plot but that's not main plot to me... main plot is K and his journey that changes him and that's executed beautifully.
But whatever, I'm not one for point ratings anyway.
I love it. It's beautiful. It's glorious. It's thought provoking. It's brutal. That's all that needs to be said.

Oh I have a few nitpicks along with what trollpower pointed out:
Spoiler: | The scene with wallace gutting that new model at the beginning felt more like "look out, he's a baddie!" than actual frustration at not having tyrrel's skillz for creating life within life. Especially since later we see that he actually made a new rachael.
To me that scene would have worked better if it had rachael in there instead of the new model, it would set her up for later when she appears (which would kinda ruin the surprise, tho) and fit better IMO (he can create a new rachael, but this one is unable to create life).
The other one is how the fuck did K find them in the end when they were going offworld? |
Still the best movie I saw this year, but now I'm dreading the beating it might take with the franchise stick

If I had to nitpick the thing that was stupid as fuck
Spoiler: | Wallace got bones of Rachel, it was shown that replicants have DNA. He even cloned her being 100% true to the original (without really knowing how she looked like) but somehow he still needed her daughter to know how Tyrell made her being able to reproduce. WTF screenwriter, you fucking fraud. Explain it to me. |
Still Villenenvueue has great visual sense but somehow can't work around or spot faults in script which is why I hated Arrival.

nope, sorry, not happy with this. just finished watching it, and no joke i exclaimed at the end 'IS THAT IT?!' i mean seriously, wheres the last 30 minutes of the movie?
this film had no meat to it. i could feel nothing for the main characters relationship with his digital girlfriend because, well.. i mean shes a piece of software programmed to say she loves him... big deal, its not even remotely comparable to deckard/rachel in the first film.
but lets break down the story with minimal spoilers...
routine job.. find bones, find clues to plot device.. try to find plot device.. think we find plot device... sorry, whole story was a red herring, but heres the real plot device, the end.
I did not get almost 3 hours worth of interesting plot or character development in this film, and JUST as it might be getting interesting, the film ends.
the movie was WAY too long for the lack of substance in this film. The first film could get away with its lingering shots, and its atmospheric building because it HAD interesting characters and an interesting world to work with. I felt we had NONE of that here. YES we get to see some interesting locales, but rarely do i feel they contribute anything meaningful beyond 'guess what, the world is fucked'.
the story felt paper-thin, characters largely irrelevant, and the central mystery is a big fat red coloured herring that only seemed to exist in order to.. what.. misdirect the audience?
maybe i didnt get it. maybe it was something massively profound.. but either way i wasnt happy with it.
the only emotional connection i could make to the film, was feeling for the main character. I think he was well written, Spoiler: | and its kinda gutting at the end to realize he was literally EVERYONES pawn. he was nothing, human, replicant, it didnt matter - every side was using him for their own goals and saw him as nothing but a tool. poor guy never had a chance, and sadly (maybe this is the point of the film), we see that both sides are equally inhumane. But i dont feel like that warranted 2 and a half hours of paper-thin plot and a non-existent ending. |
