What Remains of Edith Finch is a collection of strange tales about a family in Washington state.

As Edith, you’ll explore the colossal Finch house, searching for stories as she explores her family history and tries to figure out why she's the last one in her family left alive. Each story you find lets you experience the life of a new family member on the day of their death, with stories ranging from the distant past to the present day.

The gameplay and tone of the stories are as varied as the Finches themselves. The only constants are that each is played from a first-person perspective and that each story ends with that family member's death.

Ultimately, it's a game about what it feels like to be humbled and astonished by the vast and unknowable world around us.

Created by Giant Sparrow, the team behind the first-person painting game The Unfinished Swan.

count me in. love a good walking sim. I think Dear Esther was the only one I didn't enjoy at all from the ones I've played.

are we sure this is a walking sim though? because I see thudo mention obduction, and that is being described as a myst like game, which I wouldn't consider a walking sim.

To really understand Dear Esther, one needs to live a love so strong that its utter loss and deprivation cuts so deep and drives such a piercing sorrow that everything becomes colored with madness!!

That's a modern classic alright Very Happy, but as the Witchy mentioned, it really doesn't qualify as walking simulator since the walking itself is merely used as a tool to complete the main focus of the game: dem glorious environmental puzzles, similarly to the The Talos Principle, Antichamber, The Witness, and so on.

Proper walking simulators(tm) don't like to tickle the player's brain too much. They prefer to tickle the feels with narrative-based visual tricks that can be inspired/captivating or just plain tiresome if the designers are firm believers in the westboro hipsterism xD

Seems to be a bit short at just a bit over two hours in length though it seems to be pretty good as well.

Could be worth a download though waiting for more reviews first might be of use.
(Well the Steam reviews are what they are I guess although there's a few that are actually pretty well written.)

Finished it in practically one sitting (between 2 and 3 hours). The game is a pure walking simulator/visual novel with the traditional uber-limited freedom, scripted interactions, no puzzles whatsoever and even moving the mouse is often guided as well, but the unique narration itself makes the experience worthwhile in my opinion.

It's incredibly imaginative (yet melancholic), the visuals are pleasant and all the various perspectives and stories pan out brilliantly despite the very simplistic/stale formula. Nothing mind-blowing of course, but it's definitely an interesting addition if one likes the genre.

An excellent game imo. As said above, it's like watching a movie but it is so well executed, so immersive that it didn't bother me. The visuals are excellent, the storytelling is top notch and of course the soundtrack is spot on with Jeff Russo at the helm.

Nothing challenging at least. It has typical walking simulator gameplay and yes, I think walking around, discovering things and doing some minigames counts as gameplay. I know some people mention in their reviews that you could easily watch this on youtube but I think the interactivity adds a lot to the experience.

It's one of those games that you don't forget about immediately after finishing it, thanks to a bunch of memorable scenes and an intriguing story. It's easily done in one or two sessions and has good visuals, so I would definitely recommend trying it.

Played this yesterday, in a single setting. What an experience.. it's been a while since a game affected me like that.
Highlight for me was the bathtub scene, so cute but oh so haunting.

Comes highly recommended if you have a few hours to spare.

There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

Finished it and love it! Very similar to gone home but only in concept.

You walk around the house (super cozy house) and experience very very imaginative experiences. It;s only 2/3 hours and very fun. I recommend it

I just finished this and it was a surreal narrative experience. I loved how the narrative blend with the unique gameplay mechanic to bring each story to life, this made all the difference. I only wish it was a bit longer. Sad
