I saw a stream of this game yesterday and to be honest... it simply did not look interesting at all.

I've played SF1 and 2 and I liked them (1st especially, as the idea was new back then). But now the gameplay I saw was just pure rts. Maybe I just didn't watch it long enough ( ~1h)

Sadly it costs more than i'm willing to pay for it.

My thoughts exactly, let's hope not, then at least we can try it until it drops to a more sensible price.

The campaign has more RPG in it than ever before.

It's 23 euros, what do you want more "sensible" than that?

The German Mag Gamestar said theyll postpone their test because the game was not really playable in its current state (Progression stopping bugs) and gave a purchase warning.

One of the important quests is not working for me. Camera and controls could also use some tweaking.

Looks like there's been at least two patches so far fixing some of these issues. Smile

Statement about post release support
Dear SpellForce fans,

As you are probably aware we have released a pre-final version to Streamers and media last Friday. This version had unfortunately some issues as our aim was and is to polish the game to the max which requires working on it until very short before the actual public release.
Regardless we have done every day at least two updates to this version to provide the best possible SpellForce experience.
Please be aware that the version that goes live on Dec 7th at 10am PST will also not have any of these issues.

As you know from the beta phase we are very quick with regular updates and we plan to add further polish and especially if necessary balancing adjustments also in the post release phase. For us SpellForce 3 is not a fire and forget product – we want to create an awesome game together with you and your input.

See you on the battlefield!

The RTS component is underdeveloped. It's pretty much an Age of Empires which makes its gameplay quite rudimentary. Basically the micromanagement style of games like Starcraft is impossible to apply here because of how slow and hard to control the units are. On the other hand the combat isn't really physics based and designed for large scale battles so Total War level of tactics isn't working either. It's really disappointed because the RTS almost feels disconnected and this hinders the RPG side of the game.
To make matters worse, the RTS AI isn't balanced at all. Besides the unlimited resources and an infernal spam of units, the AI is also cheating by changing attack paths based on the player's actions (I noticed this by reloading same save and trying different attack paths). This leads to an unfair and extremely overwhelming experience on the highest difficulty which it's frustrating as hell.
It's really disappointing to see that the RTS works this way not only because in general the game is pretty great (so far) but also some of the above mentioned problems carry on to the multiplayer.

Does this mean, that you wound back time to change the outcome in your favor, basically cheating the AI with a time machine, is when you noticed that the AI also cheated? Cool Face
I'm jesting of course Very Happy

Funny enough, I wasn't save scumming at first, I was testing a problem with my saves when I first noticed. But then, when I tried to save scum, it became really obvious so I tried it some more and it was rather funny to see the AI attacking different camps based on where I was moving my heroes.

Never thought of it, but clearly reloading is a way to detect some types of cheatery, so that in itself is worth noting to me.

Haven't played the full game yet, but in the beta some obstacles could be destroyed by workers, check if you can assign some to the barricade.

There are 2 control schemes you can choose from and you can customize both. There are a lot of controls and the UI isn't the best so it's difficulty for the game to have a good control scheme. I got used with it, what bugs me is the tiresome camera. Sad

I've been through many missions, so I can't really remember which is the first campaign mission. Farlon's Hope or the one with the Elves where you investigate "stuff" (no spoilers)?
