The virtual reality mode in Gran Turismo Sport is quite limited, as players can only race on tracks against a single opponent. That’s a far cry from the regular races, which feature up to 16 vehicles competing. That wasn’t how the mode was always meant to be however, as previous trailers showed multiple cars in the Gran Turismo Sport VR mode. Sony has now taken down the trailer advertising this planned feature.
However, early preview releases of GT Sport, which officially launches today, showed that this system of career progression has been removed. The realisation sent shockwaves through the gaming community, with die-hard fans distressed that a central and beloved element of the Gran Turismo series appeared to have been dumped in favour of a new online Sport mode. Some commenters on Facebook claimed to have cancelled pre-orders of the full game due to the change in direction.
“When people are talking about there’s no campaign mode, or no GT Mode anymore, that’s not quite true,” Yamauchi told us. “It’s just a change to the UI (user interface). All the things that you were able to do in the past in those modes are in the game.”
Always the old excuse "since the majority of users don't want that feature anymore, we dumb down the final solution", so instead of giving an ample variety of features and situations (old and new), we wash down to the lowest common denominator, namely "Grand Retarturismo".
Thank you Sony: first GT not bought in the whole series.
Agree fully with previous poster - after being wowed by the graphics on the demo (terrific HDR especially), when I found out how 'bare' the final game was, I was no longer interested. Not just lack of cars, duplicated cars, and lack of tracks - but ripping out the GT career mode is dumb beyond dumb.
And this from someone who bought the original Gran Turismo on Jap import for PS1! Great shame. Next to the Forza motorsport and horizon series, this is now clear second best. Maybe an excuse yet to get myself an Xbox One X!
With the black friday arrival it got discounted to 29 euros on Amazon.
I'm struggling, since maybe 29 euros are the proper price for a network enhanced demo of GT.
Maybe.
It's the closest experience you'll get to iRacing on a console, using a gamepad from the comfort of your sofa. I found it a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to the singleplayer content update that's coming out. The UI is a lot snappier and getting in and out of races is quick. Makes picking it up after work easy.
Yes, it was good to hear about these upcoming content additions...the lack of content has probably affected sales quite badly - massive discounts available on it here in UK for Black Friday - I couldn't say no at £18.99 for such a new game, but without these announcement I still might not have gone for it.
Played this a lot lately, everyday so I get my free car - but I swear this game punishes me for not spending my credits, because all I get is the crap cars as rewards, even thought I can see all the cool cars in the wheel

For me it seems to be the other way around.
I like to race to get money, and then buy those cars I want, not have them handed to me randomly for free :-(
What's the point in playing the GT mode style campaign when you got the crazy expensive supercars for free before you even start the damn sunday cup?
I guess I'll have to discard them all.

I still have to do Challenges 6-7-8 and then start on the Circuit Exp to complete the "SP part", doubt I'll make these before the GT League launches in the following days.
Imagine how tough gold will be to get on the Nurbergring...the way that circuit sits in the middle of the rest of them, probably as long as the rest put together. Not sure I'll even bother getting myself stressed by trying to get a gold on that. Maybe with some Forza style rewinds I would, but I'm glad GT doesn't prostitute itself by offering those
Here's a tip for anyone starting this, if you plan to play the singleplayer "career" ( driving school, challenge missions and circuit experience ), do the driving school first, then circuit experience and lastly the challenge missions.
Played a bit of online the last few days, the mode with preset races each day and I have to say it can be quite fun, but also quite infuriating.
The safety rating helps but some people just don't give a shit. Maybe it's better when you reach a higher safety rating, I'm currently B.
I usually just focus on staying alive while people around me seemingly go mad. Driving clean and not fucking up is usually enough to take several positions.
Unfortunately there's usually a few idiots in each race no matter what, who have no idea how to race against people so they try to win in the first lap like against AI, throwing their cars into others like it's nobody's business or breaking way too late to cut people off. Can potentially ruin your entire race.
Just now I did a clean overtake only to have the overtaken guy push my rear away causing me to spin out.
And the fucker didn't even get a penalty or anything.
Shit like that really ruins my day. These goddamn automated systems too often have no clue when to give who any penalties or safety rating deductions. We need some real AI to judge that shit!

I don't have + to play online and I don't plan on getting it since I play very rarely ( except holidays ) and there's too many douches to play with on lower ratings sadly.
Managed to finish driving school, circuit exp and challenges 100% with gold - started playing the League now.
I've spent 3 days in creating 3 liveries for my Porsche cars - i'm that crazy
