started this a few days ago, curious what was all the fuss about
before this i only tried demon's souls for a couple of minutes, didn't follow trough with it, so i wanted to give dark souls a proper go
installed dsfix and input mod made it work pretty good with keyboard, had zero issues after installing those. Had to uninstall some texture packs as the freezes got too annoying in the catacombs.
i was never much into third person and hack and slash, but i would say that the challenge have kept my attention all the while, the gameplay mechanics are pretty well done.
Most annoying thing is having to clear or just go through some areas to get to that boss/enemy you can't figure out yet, but you usually get better with the enemies so it's not that bad, tough in the name of time i would go to a wiki or just spam arrows but that ends up missing the point of the game so it doesn't feel good.
There is a lack of story thrown at your face, while severals hours deep i still don't care about the lore of the game, when you have a strong gameplay it's no problem, it also doesn't get in the way with having to see much dialog and stuff.
The other thing i see people would like is the disproportionate big enemies/npc/creatures, something i believe it appears heavily on other console games, there is a movie coming up with those as well.
i can see the appeal of the game, so my curiosity has been satisfied, while i don't see myself picking up DS3 as i'm not into this kind of game, that would be one of my first picks if it were.
According to multiple sources, both in development and retail, in the next few hours Nintendo will announce a Nintendo Direct Mini to air shortly afterwards showing 2018 software for Switch. As part of this Nintendo Direct, Dark Souls Remastered will be revealed, updating the original game to be playable portably for the first time. Our sources say this is the closing announcement of the direct.
A few hours later it will be announced that Dark Souls Remastered is also coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC. These ports are being handled by a separate company from the Switch port, and will feature rebuilt lighting and SFX based on Dark Souls 3, as well as upscaled textures. One change we've been made aware of is that multiplayer will be expanded to support six concurrent players, which makes sense if the goal is to get Dark Souls' covenant system working a little more smoothly.
One of our sources indicates that Bandai Namco plans to bring all three Dark Souls games to Switch eventually, but the oft-rumoured 'trilogy' bundle is not how this will be happening – yet. The Dark Souls Remaster will be launching in May on all platforms.
Dark Souls has the best level design by far and being the first in the series is going to be closer to the gamer's hearts. But Dark Souls 3 had some really memorable moments. Some of the boss fights were incredibly atmospheric (Twin Princes was amazing for me) and the visual design was nothing short of impressive.
Granted even for Dark Souls 2 the pursuer is a bit of a extreme case.
EDIT: From what I have read the animations in the first game were also hand tweaked which is why they work so well, hopefully the remastered version retains this but then again for all we know they might not tweak all that much at all.
Although the Switch version does require some code tweaks at least so they can't just re-release the existing version again with official 4k support or something like that.
I don't remember many hitbox problems, but all three games lack the responsiveness required for this kind of gameplay. Nioh does a much better job at this.
Hah yeah the first game ran at 30 FPS too, DSFix uncaps it (Although I was pretty far into the game when I started using it.) but it does break other things although most of the game breaking issues were since fixed though occasionally ladders will kill the player but it's very infrequent.
Mouse+keyboard support was also not helping, still got through the game though but at times it felt like you were just tanking hits trying to be patient enough for a opening to get a few attacks in.
Bloodborne seems to be the game where From moved to having more mobility and agility for players, Dark Souls 3 is a bit in-between with some enemies being a bit more aking to Bloodborne but the player himself is usually pretty slow which means weapons such as greatswords are not viable since speed is the more important factor.
(Even with balance tweaks and reducing some of the straight sword types damage factors I think they're still dominant for being so balanced in speed and power.)
The first game also has a thing for platforming which really screws the player over with positioning of enemies and several instant death falls ha ha.
Die, learn about what killed you and little by little overcome the areas through trial and error and maybe eventually a bit of skill too.
(And then get invaded and see the fucker close the shortcut you just opened up.)
EDIT: Bloodborne being held by Sony is unlikely to see any ports to other platforms though, no idea what other new franchises From Software might be currently working on but rumors hint at a sequel to that game and possibly some new license. I guess this remaster is another title they've been working on too now.
(Though it seems there was a lot of fans hoping for a Demons Souls remaster.)
EDIT: As for Nioh I still haven't gotten into it yet although it's interesting to see the different weapon types and stances plus with some training you can unlock abilities to really rip through the common enemy types but bosses tend to tip the scales again.
(That flying thing really loves paralysis ha ha.)
Although the loot you get is pretty off the charts so you're constantly switching out older lower level equipment maybe trying to get a set built up but then it costs a small fortune and all sorts of resources to improve and level up existing gear too.
Constantly re-visiting previous areas for the side missions gets a bit tedious after a while but at least the enemy types and objectives differ a bit and occasionally the map layout too.

For me its ds1>bloodborne>ds2>ds3. Never played Demon's so not sure where that would be. Anyway all those games are amazing but bloodborne is kinda to the side. Combat is to fast and frantic. There are much less playstyles but the world is right there with ds1.
Hope they dont fuck with engine too much. Ds1 lighting and animatioms have something special that sequels don't.
And why would people want 10k nits bright hdr while ds1 lava already burns retinas
