Several big names that Bloomberg spoke to all said they would jump ship if a takeover indeed happened. As such, would it even be worth Vivendi's time and money to bother taking over?
Worth it. They can continue copy pasting the same last games and be good for now and I'm sure they can attract other big talent eventually.

So...those threats were fully ignored, as expected. Vivendi just wants to milk another company and they give zero fucks about "talents". On the bright side, is nice to see Yves crapping his pants.
- Gameloft practically lost to Vivendi (as I understand) as the latter control 56% of the votes after the offer.
- Guillemot is said to be preparing to resign from Gameloft.
- The Guillemots are searching for a "white knight" that will protect Ubisoft from having the same fate.
- RIP Ubisoft.
- RIP Ubisoft.
- RIP Ubisoft.

Ubisoft is "confident" they will manage to avoid the buy out by Vivendi.
They have Plan A and Plan B.
Plan A is to somehow remain independent. (Good luck with that!)
But if that doesn't work, here comes Plan B: they are open to merging with some other company - as long as that other company isn't Vivendi. They have already had discussions with partners that would be interested in merging, which they note, not all of them are from the games industry.

Can you imagine if there was a takeover by Vivendi? Every Ubi game from now on would be full of bugs, repetitive mechanics, performance would be terrible, and post-launch support would be near non-existent.
Seriously though, I don't know why anyone would really care. What's the worst that could happen to Ubi that they haven't already done to themselves or their games?
After finally killing the Anno series, they just don't have any franchises left I'm interested in. A shame as BlueByte made so many great games.
blue byte? 3-4 own franchises. either dead or only made crap games of it (anno isnt bluebyte at all, though they co-worked on the latest 2 iirc which were crap) -> great courts, battle isle, the settlers. even schleichfahrt wasnt bluebyte, they just published it
Vivendi is though like "something, something, not our intention, something"?
Quote:
If Vivendi manages to increase its stake in Ubisoft to 30 percent, French law dictates that the media group must table a mandatory takeover bid.
Vivendi, however, insists it doesn’t plan on doing that, despite admitting it will continue to purchase shares based on market conditions.
"Vivendi is not considering the launch of a public tender on Ubisoft nor acquiring the control of the company; [although we are] considering continuing to acquire shares depending on market conditions." read a company statement.
Who are they kidding?

Ubisoft offers Employees reduced stocks to keep them away from Vivendi.
Crazy.
Also an interesting comment below.

yeah. they have deals with comcast, published for doublefine, Destroyed sierra, Fucked up blizzard, bought an 80% stake in dailymotion, and as of october 2015 they own WinAmp. Let me be clear, Vivendi are a good chunk of why Diablo 3 looks nothing like Diablo 2. The buyout and merger happened in 2007. Do you know what happened in 2008 world of warcraft: wrath of the lich king, followed by cataclysm and pandaria, as well as the release of Diablo 3 in 2012. you know what happened in 2013? they broke off the merger with vivendi. after loosing their best devs, who proceeded to go start heir own companies, you know, the buyout happened in 2007, and they fired a bunch of people from blizzard, and then a bunch of ex blizzard devs in 2008 formed Runic games, which made Torchlight 1&2, which is WAY more like a diablo game than it has any right to be. THAT is what Vivendi does.
"These games were bad so Vivendi was responsible". Ok.

Vivendi is hardly unique. Look at the trail of bodies EA has left in its wake. The problem is they are a large corporation that has no specific interest in games, it's merely a market where they see opportunity for profit. Parasitically sucking the life out of a victim, then discarding the spent husk and moving on to the next one is how business works at that level.
lol whoever wrote that comment is an absolute fucking retard and needs to check his facts.
Diablo 3 doesn't look like Diablo 2 becuase the creative head of WoW took lead on D3. Not because of Vivendi. That idiot also ended up stepping down which ironically after that, the game had a significant boost in fun.
"A bunch of ex blizzard employees quit and formed Runic Games"......what? Literally 2 people from Blizzard who were the founders of D2 work(ed) for Runic. 2 people. Not a bunch, not a group, 2 people.
Travis is from the team that did Fate who's now with Double Damage who did Rebel Galaxy along side and Eric Schaeffer who was ex Blizzard North.
Peter Hu is from Flagship Studios who did Mythos and Hellgate London.
Blizzard North who were responsible for the games that put Blizzard on the amp, disbanded in 2005 and the few "awesome devs" were gone before 2013.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
When my youngest familiarised hisself with a controller for the first time his stock response to that stupid question asked a 5 year old "Whaddya wanna be when you grow up?" was "Be a designer at Ubisoft". He even tried learning french to better prepare himself.
Now he has the skills and ability to work on games - a job he totally loves, and seems to be in demand, and I ask him "what about getting a gig with Ubi?" He mutters something about not wanting to work in such an oppressive environment, shudders and changes the subject.
What happened to just about all those 90's innovators is truly sad, even though the shop which made Rayman Legends in 2013 is probably no more 'corporatised' than that which made "Rayman" back in '95 - the attention to detail is consistent and so is some of the innovatiion, but Ubisoft games just aren't the joy to play nor as fulfilling to make as they once were.
AC is an easy punching bag, but Far Cry 4 and/or endless Tom Clancy tactical shooters wouldn't have been hot beds of creative innovation either.
UBISOFT ENTERTAINMENT : Ubisoft reaches agreement with Vivendi for its full exit from Ubisoft's share capital

Share buy-back by Ubisoft of shares owned by Vivendi, accretive to all Ubisoft shareholders
Acquisition by Guillemot Brothers SE of shares owned by Vivendi
Accelerated Bookbuilding with institutional investors for the remainder of Vivendi`s stake
Paris - March 20, 2018 - Today, Ubisoft announced that it has signed an agreement with Vivendi for its full exit from Ubisoft`s share capital, with the sale of all Vivendi`s 30,489,300 shares. The transaction includes an investment by two new long-term investors, the Relationship Investing arm of Ontario Teachers` Public Equities division, and Tencent, a share buy-back by Ubisoft, an acquisition of shares by Guillemot Brothers SE and an Accelerated Bookbuilding with institutional investors. Following the implementation of the transaction, Vivendi will no longer hold any shares in Ubisoft, and has committed not to acquire any shares in Ubisoft for 5 years.
As part of the transaction, Ubisoft and Tencent have also announced today a strategic partnership that will significantly accelerate the reach of Ubisoft franchises in China in the coming years.
Yves Guillemot, CEO and Co-Founder, said: "The evolution in our shareholding is great news for Ubisoft. It was made possible thanks to the outstanding execution of our strategy and the decisive support of Ubisoft talents, players and shareholders. I would like to warmly thank them all. The investment from new long-term shareholders in Ubisoft demonstrates their trust in our future value creation potential, and Ubisoft`s share buy-back will be accretive to all shareholders. Finally, the new strategic partnership agreement we signed will enable Ubisoft to accelerate its development in China in the coming years and fully leverage a market with great potential."
"Today, Ubisoft is fully reaping the benefits of our long-term strategy and the successful transformation towards a more recurring and profitable business. Ubisoft is perfectly positioned to capture the numerous video game growth drivers in the coming years. We are focused more than ever on delivering on our strategic plan."
So that is why there's been so many updates for their old games with Chinese and Korean localization then. Well that's probably good for Ubisoft, until Tencent takes them over completely.
