it seems they gave me the full month for free and a 15% discount store coupon code for the trouble. too bad theres nothing to play, hardline is just crickets, battlefront is shit, maybe ill give nfs a try.

That's been broken for a year, same with cloud support and one of the feedback settings I believe.

I did some basic testing with the config files and found these don't write anything to that and it's either handled online against your actual profile (But would then be the only settings working like this.) or they're just broken and EA isn't investing much to see it fixed.
Notepad++ open the config files and then open the client and change any other setting, switch to NP++ and it'll update and ask to refresh the file that was written to and you can do that and everything should be fine, switch these three settings though and it won't even register in NP++ at all so nothing is read or written to the config files for these.
Rest of the client has seen some good gains though, still behind compared to UPlay and Steam but it's getting better.
Battle.net isn't bad either but the agent helper things take up a constant usage of CPU resources though it's improved but hasn't stopped.

Seems much for games I don't want to play.
That being said, price seems to be okay. I play MMO's so anything that is less or about the same for a library of games seems reasonable. I still rather own my games than renting them though.
