The History of Khorinis is an addon to the popular game Gothic, introductory a new history placed in the tumultuous times before the creation of the Magic Barrier — over ten years before events from the first and the second part of saga. Publication of the project is planned in two parts — at first on the new island Vaduz and next on Khorinis Island.
It seems so strange to use the Gothic 1 engine (or did i miss something?).
Also for 15 of the 20 minutes he seems to talk about the voice overs and translation of said voice overs.. maybe its just me, but voices is such tiny aspect of gameplay and immersion..
It also seemed like they were all over the place in terms of how far they have gotten, sometimes it seems like they haven't gotten very far and really can't say a date to "final stages of development".
They sure know how to handle EQ on voices to get a deeeeeeeeep bassy voice, so that's great though
After playing Elex, I may pick this one up again. 10 years ago, I started playing it around Christmas and it has always been locked in my mind as a "Christmas game" and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Since I didn't complete it then, I may just try again this Christmas.
More so for the first Gothic but the combat in the sequel also takes a little while to get used to, still better than Gothic 3 though where you have some four attacks and one actually works.
(The fast one.)
Default key bindings overall in Gothic 1 was pretty rough too, think the sequel offered a alternate layout though but it's been quite a few years since I murdered the hell out of, err since I explored the isle of Khorinis.
(Australia in all but name, every single wildlife thing is against you, even the meatbugs are plotting even if they can't really do much.)

What I remember most of all, is how demanding the game was if you cranked up the viewing distance. Even 5 years later, my PC still stuttered when I increased the viewing distance. These days, on a modern rig, it runs poorly because it's not quite compatible but I got a retro PC for that.
If you use the DX11 render it runs great and looks better to boot!
I tried that - it was very buggy for me and its with this mod that I got poor performance. Without it, the game simply won't run - I get a black screen. I think it's partly because the mod expects a specific version of Gothic II and I have the GOG version when the mod looks for the Steam version (for some ridiculous reason).

Never had that problem, even when it was new it ran pretty good (~40 FPS, good at the time), at highest settings. Years later i remember when i had a much more powerful graphics card i got a little bit disappointed that it was "just" in the 55 FPS range or so..
But it does require a decent cpu/gpu to render all those distant 3D trees and other objects i guess.. The game does not use 2D billboards which today is a standard.
It's too bad no one has made a mod for the character models, they're very LEGO-like by todays standards, other than that you can make the game look pretty good.

Gothic 1 also featured the zHighQualityRender command or what it was called, rendered everything instead of obscuring it via fog and then culling anything in said fog though I don't believe the command remained for Gothic 2 which improved and modernized the engine a bit.

Yeah, it's still there. I installed G2 on my laptop a couple of months ago (it's still there) and for some reason the fog was oddly close (even at 300% visibility) - I can't remember exactly if the game was always like this, but I think it wasn't. So after each start I have to use that command (along with a couple others) to see SOMETHING.
I loved this game (gothic1)... is the game still locked to 20fps with this?

wouldn't mind a graphics / quest pack mod for this game, its more of a jungle than Gothic 3. i can see they're using my mod but there's also other graphics packs included + the quests mods.
