Thanks for finally admitting defeat though.... about time. Looking forward to this. Especially because Bongos based freeshards were mostly faulty in alot of aspects. That is.. if they don't base this shit on Bongos too.
But, can't wait to go back to "investing a shit ton of time and getting/feeling rewarded for it". I also can't wait to just observe all the pretenders getting fucked up the ass by the Vanilla. It's gonna break alot of people and I'm gonna enjoy watching it happen
Tryhards and pretenders (especially 15 year olds that gonna pretend "i wuz there") gonna be hilarious
I mean, I get what they were saying... there will be the rose-tinted glasses effect for most of the people that are hyped now, or think they are.... and they are gonna quit faster than they'd like to admit.
But those people don't matter.
There is alot of people (including me), Nostalrius and various other Vanilla freeshards showed it, that still want to play the game from back then and actually aren't blinded by rose-tinted nostalgia glasses. With all it's ups and downs.

If they add anything from "current"... it would completely defeat the point.
The only things I'd like to see is, fixing alot of bugs and exploits.. cheesy shit. Getting the servers stable for big ass open pvp without crashing the servers (propably impossible but I can dream  ). And just polish up what was there.
None of that cross-realm shit, none of that automated LFG/raid shit... so it's a more personal game again. So you have your arch-nemesis on your server in the other faction again... the people you love to hate... all that stuff. The drama in the server community if someone rips someone else off and gets shunned/infamous... all that good stuff. So this fucking trainwreck of an impersonal joke of an MMORPG turns into an actual MMORPG again... and I'm just trying to be honest here... it's fucking depressing that, by comparison, that an MMO that was considered streamlined pretty hard back then... has to be considered as an hardcore MMO nowadays... that's how bad the MMO genre got imho... and WoW obviously played a if not the major role in that regard... and obviously everyone jumping on that train, trying to get some of that cake that was WoW's sub numbers...
I just hope they don't fuck it up. I just want the option to play the game I loved again and the people that like "the current" version, can still enjoy their game too.
Still... them basicly admitting defeat is feeling good... filthy good

They're gonna feel it when they find out that most people who whine and want it back only play on private servers because they don't want to pay a subscription, and the others will be satisfied after indulging a bit in the nostalgic feels.

I understand that sentiment... but I think you are wrong on this. Or rather hope... especially if this turns out to be something truly enjoyable to me... which mainly depends on it not being on the shitty Bongos wonky reverse engineered code... I'd hate to see it go away again due to what you are saying.
It's just I always was under the impression, or rather infact, when I compared the server populations, that the people who just wanted to freeload WoW, were playing on current version freeshards. These were also always more popular than most Vanilla ones. Vastly. So, there is that.
But I can obviously only truly speak for myself when it comes to all this... Maybe I'm really just part of a very small number of people that actually want this and gladly pay for it. I guess we will see soon.

No such thing as +dmg on gear in vanilla. You had your main stat: str, stam, agi, int, spirir. and the other were: haste, crit, hit, dodge.
Now, a lot of items were amateurishly designed. Strength gear with spirit for example, and being new and clueless, id understand the difficulty problems while wearing something like that.
While most stuff was easy, the game was way more unforgiving than now.

Vanilla gear had "+ attack power" which is effectively +dmg on gear.
You also had + Spell Power or + Arcane/Fire/Frost/Nature/Shadow damage, similarly functioned as +dmg on gear.

+spell power was only on the higher items tho, very rarely on rare items ( for example t0 set pieces dont have any spell power on the items itself ).

the expansion seems lame as hell , like no side will ever win, whats the point, pvp was a joke since vanilla and always wil be if there is no world consequences
and now u magicly think u fixed it ? the freaking zones still say contested areas for years, yet u never did anything with it. we had to make our own trren mill fun cause they couldnt figure out world pvp. all it is is ganking , nothing more

Yeah i meant +spell power or +fire/frost/shadow for casters. Best mage/warlock/spriest/balance druid gear is all offset non tier items at least till tier 3(Naxx). Molten core literally has like 4 items that casters use. The +hit gear starts to come from BWL and ZG. And i'm not sure if game is more unforgiving, maybe in outside of raids. In retail wow atm raid encounters at highest difficulty have so many mechanics and it is very easy to wipe even if 1 or 2 people die. In vanilla it is easy to save the many boss kills even with half the raid alive.
I really think many people are in for a surprise how relatively easy in terms of skill vanilla is with the knowledge they have about the game now. Unless blizzard changes something.
In my opinion vanilla is pretty perfect game for person who only likes to log-in for raids, because there ain't much to do after you hit max lvl and get your pre raid gear from dungeon. Most of my time in private server went to herbing outside the raid for potions and helping lvling people with dungeons and quests so we could get 40man together faster.
The thing i'd like to know is that will it be wow 1.12 or will it progress from 1.0 to 1.12 over time like many private servers today.

most who want this is people who felt they were powerfull because they literally spent weeks ingame farming mats and pots to be more powerfull then others who could not play 16 hours a day
and its those people who shouted the loudest, but noone of them will play cause bliz wont allow this OP stuff to exist anymore as its detrimental, and they now have a job and family and cant spend the time
zero casuals will level higher then lvl 20 if they keep it same as vanilla, it was boring as fuck after a while
server will launch, server will crash cause everyone and their mother will try it and then after 3 months it wil be a graveyard of labandoned lvl 10s
i think what finally made them decide to do it is to keep some people subscribed. even if its only 0.1%, thats still a lot of monthly income but now they reached a point the have to fight for every sub, as it should be in a freefall atm.

I don't think that legacy will die, because if you look around there is pretty big community around vanilla servers already, there will be people who play it, even if server has 4-5k people logged-in on avg it feels very alive. It all depends how many servers will blizz make for this.
I agree that many people who have never played vanilla or weren't big fans of it before won't probably stuck around after couple of months.
Also i was so sure that blizz won't ever do vanilla server because of the time required to redevelop it and the potential to make money from it without changing it. But i was wrong and them developing it, i would guess that they expect at least 100k or so people playing on it for it to be worth it.
A lot of people don't play on private server atm too because of the drama around them, the instability of them and so on, so i think official servers have that advantage.
What i wanted to add to my last post was that, the knowledge means so much. I played the retail vanilla myself and i can tell from my own experience that i didn't know shit and i raided till middle of naxx. I don't remember using potions/world buffs(excluding ony head)/enchanting my gear with best enchants, lets not even talk about the ZG head and leg enchants which are pretty fucking good. For gear only thing that mattered was that it was a tier item or had a lot of int on it etc. I and most of the other players were clueless as fuck. Bosses took like 5-7min to kill. I remember first ZG hakkar kill in vanilla we ran into the enrage timer which is 7 or 8 minutes, in private server the first kill took max 2 min. The gearing, buffing and knowing how to actually play your class makes so much difference.
And because of that i think many people will be disapointed, because you won't get the same experience that you remember having. It's same with many thing in life, the unknown is what makes it good and fun.

Only shit I ever pay for is the new exp, which usually means, new shit to farm and play auction house.

Well the war between the factions is a huge part of the setting but i'm also really tired of it i hope the war will be over once and for all after this and the races will work together, i also don't see this becoming a big hit it looks like just another filler expansion like WOD.

It WAS a huge part of the setting, sure. They changed this and it's been a big focus on cooperatioon and only simple brooding conflicts in the background just so we don't forget that factions still exists. All the leaders are down to earth on a personal basis, and no one seems to honestly want a war anymore. So why are we suddenly thrown into a campaign horde vs alliance after horde has been helping Vaelen on Argus? It just doesn't flow with the recent years of events.
