That's usually what "evolution" means when it comes to RPG studios - dumbing down, making it more commercial. I think it's rare to see a RPG studio not jumping onto this train..

So being lazy is sticking to their roots? That makes no sense to me. You guys do realize they are rehashing the same thing over and over again right? Is Ubisoft sticking to their roots with AC number 13 or whatever it is by now?

I'm just pissed that the studio which originally made Gothic 2 hasn't moved forward an inch. The first half of Risen 1 was so memorable and good, then they suddenly took a wrong turn. Using your old game as an inspiration and expanding on it is progress, using the same formula over and over again is just lazy. Asking 50 bucks on top of that? That's just rip-off.

Clearly thats what the fans want and expect, we want them to continue to make games similar or as close as possible to Gothic1-2. I'm perfectly happy with that. I'm pretty sure people who loved FO1-2 would prefer if the other FO's were similar to them, im sure some would even be fine with the same graphics, just higher res.

If they were really lazy they would just do something similar to Arcania, open world games like this are way more difficult to do than some linear action RPG, probably also harder to market, but they have their little fan base that they hope will buy their games.

The open world nature of the game is also why these games are always quite buggy, same can be said for Bethesda's RPG (a waaaay bigger studio with tons more money).

Give an example of another 30 people studio who does better open world RPG's then?

I don't think it's lazyness, it's more like working with a limited budget close to surviving.

I'm currently level 27 and keep finding shotgun ammo. Not once any fitting weapon as loot or at vendors though. Laughing

you can steal one from behind the bar in domed city or if you have stupid high stats
you can steal and use thunderclap from the duke's bunker, it's on the 3rd floor up (I think) 1st side room you come to on the the windowsill/shelf

Gonna take a look at that.

How long did it take you? I'm currently in Act 3, and it feels like the game processes way faster now than at the beginning with the quests.

At night it looks like its raining if you are next to a light source, heavy rain. But there's no sound of rain and its not raining in places which doesn't have a light source near.. quite an odd graphical glitch.. http://piclair.com/data/kwvoh.jpg

it's also odd how miserably they have failed portraying waterfalls, as i recall they were much better done in Risen 3. Those huge chunks of sprites falling down are not very convincing, and it doesn't help that they're full bright at night either.. In Gothic 2 they were terrible too buuut yeah, its been a while Laughing they do seem extremely happy about them though, placing them all over the map lol

Around 44 hours on hard difficulty. My questlog is completely empty, did all companion quests etc and i think i covered most of the area's in the game. But yeah, it went really fast in the end. I only reached act 2 when i was level 22 Laughing

Also you progress a lot faster through your quests when you finally got most of the teleports.

Angelina, are your in your menstruation Days? Are you bleeding hard and have you cramps and pain?
Maybe that's the course of your discomfort.
Stop playing and start again after the difficult days are over.
I bet you will have a very different and more pleasing experience with the game.

I get sometimes a but that my character starts running... ie. it just runs -> I can turn around etc, but no matter what I do I cannot make the character stop + I cannot take out weapon and attack or anything.

It's fixed by quicksave + quickload.
It's some combination of characters which causes it, because it ALWAYS happens when I'm getting into a combat (ie. I take out my weapon and press some buttons at same time (maybe shift for running and.. something)

Damn you got lucky. I have one quest from berserkers and one from clerics that won't work. Caja's questline won't move on even in chapter 3. And Eva doesn't give me a follow up so I can complete the Road of Calaan. I would do the last one all by myself, but I can't find 3 of the 9 weathered pictures and apparently if you don't have the pictures the items won't spawn.
At least I managed to force Ray's quest into completion. It wasn't progressing, kinda like Caja's quest, but I found the guy responsible for all the problems when Ray was with me.

Caja's quest continued for me after i beat the end boss. I'm not sure what is triggering it, maybe it just needs ingame days to continue. I had the same thing with Ray, it just took time before he engaged me again to continue his quest.

Level 15, just got Mace II. Wrecking all sorts of red skulls with it everywhere. Of course, they 1 or 2 shot me, but man ... mace Q is powerful!

I really like the flexibility in this game, used much of my pickpocketed money to buy Natural Elex to make Elex potions to get stats to be able to use a better weapon early on. Feels great.

Nah, i'm just using a Dual Hammer and the Flamethrower Type B.
The third weapon is just some plasma rifle i never really use anyways.

It sucks though that you can't modify Flamethrowers. Would be nice to for example change it to Energy and then shoot purple flames.

True, man.
They are back to roots with this.
We can anticipate great thinks from them, in the not so distant future.

And finished after like 31h.

It was to experience a good PB game again after all those years. Even with all those issues and the indie-feeling i enjoyed it.
The ending with that slideshow was shit though.

6.7/10

Some of the parts at the end felt a bit disconnected, there were also many dialogues that shouldn't be available anymore. But overall it was a good ending, maybe with a bit too many revelations, but it does lead to somewhere. They have some real nice story opportunities for this universe now. I can't wait for a sequel, hopefully on a different engine.
I like the RPG aspects way more than those of DOS2, the latter is just a much more fleshed out game (I'm not sure if this is saying much tho). But it's impressive what PB managed to pull off with such a limited budget and a small team. Sure, they cut corners wherever they could (animations, UI, facial models, plenty of reused graphical assets), but it has a lot to offer.
