A quick glance on john walkers twitter and bio says enough. Poll if u should sit down after pooping or stand up etc. It's just so far from my reality these type of people. I don't see them giving any value to this (gaming)world. The over exaggerated 'goofiness' and 'quirkiness'. They are 'journalists' not gamers. They don't play games they just review them in their own little goofy world. Then they go back home to their 250kg wife with neon purple hair and put on their gimp suit.
In all seriousness. The game is good for what it is. I keep going back to it despite all it's flaws. It just shows games don't have to be perfect to be fun. Most AAA titles don't even keep me busy for more than 5 min's.

That's pretty good, I switched over to the long-range weather but it's a bit flat looking compared to the default.

(Debug key functionality is also a bit wonky and these weather states are static instead of dynamic too which works OK in some areas and far worse in others.)

Dont know if it has been mentioned before but stats don't increase damage it seems. Only what you can unlock. Like intelligence, str, dex don't add dmg to anything.

The problem is, when the aforementioned journos go from bashing Elex to praising streamlined onebutton popamole, anti-customer AAA junk and pretentious alternative shallow indies made by their friends, that's the moment one realizes that their words have little relevance, they cannot be taken seriously and their bias gets exposed.
As I wrote some pages ago, the game does have many evident flaws, but it also offers something great that only classic PB titles can provide, a powerless Mr Nobody catapulted in a hostile world with no gimmicks, helps or big arrows, with tons of contents, interactions and ways to approach quests. The technical obsolescence will always be there until the budget remains limited, but I sure as hell appreciate the efforts and their idea of gaming. |
Well said.
Also, to come back to my previous comment on John Walker: he used to actually be someone who would look through the lack of polish and still recommend a game despite its flaws. Alpha Protocol he actually recommended for example which was in pretty poor shape as well. But he always had these weird ideas for which a game should be completely trashed. Things most people would only find a small deal breaker. He's a grammar nazi for example and any non-US or British game (such as Witcher) which had spelling errors or translation mistakes, he'd ram into the ground like a man possessed. Other than that, he was an OK writer - the least remarkable of the PC Gamer staff writers though. Since he moved to RPS and started to become more and more extreme in his SJW views, he started to let that effect his reviews as well which doesn't help.
Personally, I think that every "proper" gamer should be willing to look past flaws to see the quality game underneath. Remember games like Boiling Point? Full of bugs yet every serious gamer I knew loved it despite the bugs. We can appreciate when a dev tries something new or treats us to a type of game that has become very rare which is the case for this game. I'd rather have a single buggy rough game like this, than a handful of highly polished bore-fests which seems to be the trend.

I kinda like this game, played for an hour last night and it was good fun. Need to find easy XP so I can actually travel since I was killed by basicly every living creature.

Crap. I don't know if I should start playing. |
There is 0 reason not to start. I haven't encountered any gamebreaking bugs and i'm at the last questline.

Seems the sunglasses are op and easy to get. Give +10 armor without showing and they highlight items/enemies.
Alric can be pickpocketed for them in the first town already.

They give armor?
isn't it just the item / enemy visibility.

Yes +10 armor. Hidden on the item and stats but it's definitely there. The game is retarded in that sense. 10 armor is 10 reduction. Users did tests and all sunglasses classic high tech etc. give +10 armor.

So accepting the same shit from the same developer over and over again is being a proper gamer? The studio changed and still they make the exact same mistakes. They don't evolve at all. I'll evetually play this game since I'm a masochist who'll finish even an average RPG, but I sure am glad I can just leech it.

You're twisting my words now - if you think the game is fun regardless of the bugs and there's no alternatives, then yes, suck it up and play it! What else are you going to do? Not buy it, see the studio go bankrupt and see no such games being made at all anymore? Is that a better option?
