Indeed.

Too bad we will only be able to play "low res/simple gfx" games for the next ten years @8K
No way to run some actual nice games like PCARS2/DCS:World/ETS2/... at even 45fps for now.

Sad

yes and no. While res would be good, the optics still are fucked up and create a lot of chromatic aberration and curving the screens in weird way. At least if rift CV1 is anything to go by... I wasn't troubled by SDE but more by heat(sweat) and terrible optics. This is a limitation

Well, with my Gear VR Innovator Ed. and the Note 4 I can watch movies in an excellent AR and no chromatic aberration whatsoever. Maybe it's because the OLED screen and Oculus optics. The only fault is the resolution, so if these 8k new ones are somewhat the same quality I think they'll be of use for 3D movies Smile

Alien Isolation is not a native VR game. There is a wonderful patch by Nibre that can be used to play in VR, however.
https://github.com/Nibre/MotherVR/releases/
While it has its problem due to the patched nature of the experience, it is utterly terrifying and worth a try if you already own it.
For a proper VR experience, I really enjoyed Robo Recall and Lone Echo/Echo Arena.

The new 8k Pimax only upscales to 8k from a normal 1080p image. It virtually eliminates SDE and pixel gaps, without needing to use more GPU power. The lens warping is something else that's being worked on I understand, but with such a jump in clarity, it really won't be that much of a problem. I'm quite excited by the new pimax, I think it's a shot in the arm for VR, which it needed since Colulus and HTC just sat on their asses trying to milk their 1st gen devices as much as possible.

Well, I don't know the specs, but if something needs to be upscaled to fit a display, I would imagine it can handle a full 8k image. Trouble is, we're at least 3-4 years away from any GPU that could be made affordable to handle 8k VR.

It's still easily the best option we have right now though, and it'll likely handle 2k, 4k and even 6k upscaled images, as GPU's get faster. So there's potentially a good 6 years built in relevance.

Then its fine of course. I was just wondering, if it can only upscale 1080p as that would be a meh limitation Smile

CLPL, which is being used on a Sony phone, display made by Sharp - apparently it's on par with OLED for clarity but with much better VR response.

I have the old Pimax "4k" and the picture is much sharper than Oculus, its very noticiable difference in VR (oculus wins in games tho due to better colors and refresh rate). Can´t wait to get my hands on Pimax 8K ,dat FOV (and dat 8k resolutio which cannot be run on any computer).

There's some articles on the 8k from Gamespot and a couple of others, stating they're not working very well for anything slightly GPU heavy - however, Gamespot isn't exactly a reliable source, and I expect some things won't be ready - like Brainwarp - until better drivers are written.

much better VR response? I doubt it, and they only mention cost.
I'd like to see some evidence, but they don't seem to provide any.

They're VERY secretive right now, virtually nothing is out there with clear images of the display, except that vid above.. and that's not very clear.

And when it comes down to it, images or videos of displays are worthless when we talking blacklevel, pixelresponse times, etc. We either need proper measurements, which seems unlikely or tales of experience, which are also flawed but hey Smile

I think they were asking the question because of the use of past tense i.e was great instead of is great.
