The first two episodes were great, really. I can see this having a long shelf life, assuming they continue with the impressive stories. Looking at the sneak peak, it looks to be an exciting ride.

Those people not liking this would literally never have been happy. They'd be better watching TNG re-runs for the 10000th time.

Or they just have different taste and this doesn't suit them.
Should we always complain when others feel different about something. Sounds a bit exhausting if I have to bitch about you liking it. Sad Razz

I hear you, but you must admit Star Trek is one of those rare cases where "fanbois" will never be happy, and that itself is a bit exhausting!

I really enjoyed the first two episodes. I thought they were pretty great actually.

I'm one of those people that is easily pleased i guess Very Happy I'm looking forward to the next episode tomorrow. Still TNG is, and will always be my favourite series in the ST franchise.

I like this a lot better than Orville so far, even though people seem to love Orville on other websites.

It speaks volumes when they use the Orville in comparison with this. Not that I like that show... but they at least got the Star Trek right Laughing

One thing I hate about the show is the use of lens flare, especially when they use it. Two characters are talking, then, BAM, bright light right in the middle. What's the point of this? It doesn't add anything to the scene, it actually detracts from it because of how distracting the light is. There's not even a light source for it, it just appears out of nowhere and then disappears when it switches to a different camera.

As for the rest of the show, I'm waiting to see what happens in the third episode. I'm hoping that the forced character interactions and forced conflict will lead to some meaningful character development. The main character is disgraced (I don't want to spoil too much about it), something that doesn't really happen in Star Trek, and I'm hoping for some good character building as a result of that.

Had noticed that as well, lots of scenes marred by retarded lens flare effects for no reason. So far this shows is nothing like any of the older star treks, agree with red letter media review so far.. will drop the show if it's just space battles and Americans screaming.

Ep. 3 felt like a proper ST episode, aside from some cheesy moments and silly science. Also the tribble cameo Very Happy Anyway, enjoyed it much more than the prologue episodes.

This is as far from Star Trek as it could be, but it's getting interesting as hell, can't wait episode 4.

Good episode, too bad about the budget-friendly low lighting monster scene, but I guess they don't have that much money for CGI, since it looks like there will be quite a few "monster of the week" episodes.

Not really, recent ST movies do a much worse job of being Star Trek, they could have gone that actiony route (as they did in the prologue episodes). This reminded me of some of the later, more grittier Voyager episodes.

In the grim dark future of constant war and sadness in space, everyone's an asshole.

Exactly what Star Trek has always been about!

Ep.3 surely better than double pilot episode, since it's more trekkie.
Having said that, still I don't appreciate it much, since it now looks more like a "pirate trek" series: black badges, secret covert science divisions, propulsion systems sucking life out of organisms, weird cronenberg/thing cross mutations.
The "rogue" pirate kind of series theyre about to start (if it is so, we'll see quite soon) it might look sexy... for about 5 minutes (imho).
Star Trek has always been about the Federation, and it's inspiration and philosophy: this "it's the war, we have to win no matter the cost" have always been fighted from all the key players in Star Trek series, and it has to be that way.
This ain't "Star Trek: Crossbones": it wouldn't make much sense. It wouldn't fit.

I finally see potential, but in the wrong direction: hope they'll correct it in the next episodes.

It's a show with good potential but they need to fire the feminist bullcrap writers.

I mean, this feels like Ghostbusters all over again:

- male captain is considered a warmongerer
- male second in command is a backstabber and a coward
- male engineer is an asshole

- female protagonist is a stoic wonder child
- female captain of the first ship was considered a famous flawless role model
- female security officer is a capable and strong headed woman
- even her "flawed" female bunk mate gets a favorable portrayal

Seeing a pattern here? All women are role models, all men are dicks. The older Star Trek series had just as many women but they at least treated it without forcing some bullshit feminazi agenda on the show.

Funny thing is that after I realized the above, I discovered that many others had a similar impression which is odd since no previous Star Trek series got this kind of attention despite them having had female captains and plenty of strong female characters (quite the opposite: Enterprise got criticism from Trek fans because the female Vulcan was obviously added to appeal to new viewers - she was a walking pair boobs and ass the first season). It really is the portrayal of the men and how the women get WAY more screen time (think 70-80%)

The typical feminist sites are doing their usual bullshit crap of taking the ONLY thing they can use as counter-argument, and they're looking at the amount of characters on screen regardless of screen time, regardless of how they are portrayed.

I don't see the problem since I don't give a shit if the hero characters are all male or all female. As long as the acting is good, male or female, I don't care what sex it is. Did you also get frustrated by the sexualization of females in the old ST shows?
