I hope the mouse controls are good. Because it's painful to watch this played with a gaymepad, and even more though playing it with one.

The Evil Within 2 will be powered by the STEM Engine; custom-built engine based on idTech
Quote:
While The Evil Within was a really interesting game, it suffered from some really awful performance issues on both consoles and the PC. And when its sequel was announced, a lot of us wondered whether it would be powered by the id Tech 5 or the id Tech 6 Engine. Well, it appears that neither of them will be powering as Tango Gameworks has developed a new engine that is based on the id Tech Engine, called STEM Engine.

As RelyOnHorror stated, a representative of The Evil Within 2 shared – during a NYC press event – that Tango Gameworks has created a custom-built engine based on idTech; the STEM Engine. Our biggest fear here, however, is that the STEM Engine may suffer from the same optimization issues that plagued the Void Engine.

For Dishonored 2, Arkane Studios developed a custom-built engine based on the id Tech Engine, the Void Engine. Pretty much what Tango has done with the STEM Engine. And as we all know, the Void Engine under-performed on both consoles and the PC.

It remains to be seen whether the STEM Engine will share the same fate with the Void Engine. It also puzzles us why Tango did not use the id Tech 6 Engine; an engine that is among the most optimized game engines to date.

Developed by id Software, engine rewritten from idTech5 with the lead programmer previously being one of the big coders for Crytek.
(Underperformed a bit on AMD GPU's but that's due to AMD underperforming with OGL in general, Vulkan helped balance that issue out.)

This? This was idTech5 wranged through some D3D (DX11) wrapper tossing out the MegaTexture tech that the entire engine is somewhat based and built around and then forcing some cinematic black-bared aspect ratio (Which was then thankfully patched out somewhat.) though I guess the game was at least pretty stable. Very Happy
(And looked fantastic for being idTech5 based too.)

Impossible to say without playing the game but I expect it to be similar to Arkane and "Void" although it's not a bad engine (Void has some really neat tech to it.) but it has it's quirks and remains such as that dependency on 60 FPS or stuttering ensues.

Remains to be seen how STEM will be, awesome neuron tech or gray matter splatter. Very Happy
(Gray matter splatter is all but guaranteed in-game however, ha ha.)

EDIT: And the article pretty much states the same comparison I see, well it's a pretty simple comparison but it is a different developer so results can be pretty much anything.
(It wasn't as total of a overhaul but MachineGames did pretty well with idTech5 for Wolfenstein 5 or let's see, Wolf3D, Spear of D, Return to Castle Wolf, Wolfenstein idTech4 and yeah Wolfenstein idTech5 ha ha.)

(Though I guess Spear of not-Bungie's Destiny is more of a level pack and thus something akin to Old Blood.)
(I guess Spear of the guy who was possibly named Longinus might be a bit too lengthy plus Longinus might not be the easiest to pronounce, Christ-Stabber might be a bit blunt too.)

EDIT: And it was still somewhat of a overhaul getting the engine on a new generation of console and PC hardware and updating who knows what even if it looks familiar.

I did not liked the first one. It was too long and filled with ... well filler. Story was bullshit and game clunky but the art was quite nice and it was well made.

This one looks ok but what is going on with the camera? It's so close to the player, zooming in and out when he is just walking around.
And enemies hitting from behind closed door confirmed at 6:05.
Looks kinda meh but maybe it will be worth playing

It's not 2004. Stop replicating re4 and do something new

Well since this game is made by the father of resident evil, its the only game that has the right to replicate RE4, which every game since gears of war was doing anyway. RE4 simply introduced the over the shoulder cam and all 3rd person games followed suit.

That is some bullshit.
Everyone has the right of replicating it and it don't mean that only "a father of shoulder cam"(lol) can be doing it.
Shoulder cam is just that. A camera... re4 might have popularized it but Gow made it much better if You must touch on this topic...

god no, it did not introduce jack shit. Remember that even a game like Splinter Cell had that exact perspective with weapons drawn in like 2002. Im sure there were others before. RE was just the popular game that got the spotlight.

A shame that the cutting-edge tech didn't quite manage to replicate the fun factor of Flashback because of the awkward controls and camera, though it was still remarkable in its own rough way.

I believe that technically speaking the very first 3D third-person game was actually Wibarm, though it was extremely rudimentary for the obvious reasons:

The difficulty level might possibly be toned down a bit compared to the first game.

Nevermind I wrote that wrong. Casual is lower then Casual in 1. Survival is Casual from 1 and Nightmare is Survival from 1. There's no normal sorry. You also unlock more difficulty settings but the dude presenting the game in the last livestream said it's not gonna be like Akumu in 1.

EDIT: Not that it's a huge concern or anything though, if the game feels to easy it's probably possible to up the difficulty level without starting over. Smile

honestly true, i find myself wallowing in self loathing from my growing insistance on not pirating games... but not when its fucking bethesda... never again (unless its like 75% off... maybe...) matter of principle, even though i enjoyed the previous game and am looking forward to this, bethesda are too big a cunt these days to ever buy games they publish, because fuck bethesda.
