like i said, sometimes the story drove the gameplay far too much.
throwing too many enemies at you to convey the danger, futility, exhaustion the character feels... making you go through all those endless bits where you search for signs to convey her little various 'ticks', looking for 'things' that arent there - finding meaning where there is none in reality.., throwing in those puzzles to tire you out or frustrate you..
i GET it.. and from a narrative point they certainly have their purpose - but at the end of the day it also has to remember its a GAME - an entertainment product... so i dont know entirely how i feel about a lot of the gameplay mechanics and how they were designed to drive the story rather than the gameplay experience...
ALL i can say though, is that at the end, nothing in the game broke me. nothing ruined my experience so much as to make me stop playing, regret playing, or hate the overall journey - its certainly a weird one. ultimately i wont complain too much about it since i at least understood what it was ATTEMPTING to do, and that it had a purpose, rather than just being accidentally flawed design.

I did feel like as a game it was getting tiring as well in those endurance fights. I'm very much a gamer focused on gameplay so you'd think I'd get somewhat annoyed by this game, but it went alright. To me it feels like a lot of the things they do gameplay-wise, even though they're not necessarily fun, they're needed from a story stand-point. There's no way they did anything in this game with the sole purpose to just be boring or annoying, not with a game in which so much passion was poured. I think it all comes down to how tolerant the player is with the subpar gameplay elements. It really isn't a game for everyone, but one everyone should at least try for it is quite a unique experience.

Very good point. The bottom line is that it should be entertaining as a whole package, and it seems to be for a lot of people.

Finished the game on Easy (just in case). Died 4 times
3 times at...
Spoiler: | The labyrinth where you must escape from the walkin flame spectre thing because "HEY, WHERE THE FUCK IS THE EXIT?!" |
and 1 at...
Spoiler: | Fenrir's Area where you must run the fuck out from the shadows and get to the light.. I tought i might've missed a Torch or something but you had to run to the center of an area and stay in the light... Boy, the ear rape and visual rape scared the fuck out of me XDDDDDD |
I only used a guide twice for 2 places because i was tired of searching..."Oh look, some runes are at the FLOOOOOOOOOR".. Battles were finey and well done
The ending?....MIND FUCK....And the way to get it?....Say Whaaaaaaaaaaa?!
Still the ending could've been more explained for noobs and stuff.. I even read about it on google but they go for the long version...How did "that" happen?...
6/10. Walking simulator with great graphics (Could've been waaaay better, like Senua's fur or whatever around the neck/chest... I mean c'mon, give PC Master Race glorious graphics for once!

This is exactly how I felt too about the game, and I believe it's something that for me could be expanded in general to the entire set of the so called cinematic W-walking genre.
It's a grey area of our gaming world really. Hard to judge and to collocate, since it combines so many elements taken straight out of the filmic productions with rudimentary gameplay mechanics (or no mechanics at all), that one is tempted to question whether all this should really deserve to be included in the gaming context, and often I'm conflicted too. I'm very much a gamer focused on gameplay as well, though extreme variety is what makes our hobby interesting in the first place, which means that sometimes I do enjoy the time spent on something that requires little brain activity after hours devolved into deeper/more complex and more gameplay-centric experiences.
All I can say for certain is that it all boils down to one aspect in my opinion, and it's the amount of coherence between the imagery, themes presented and the means to achieve the right alchemy. If/when these three imaginary lines converge, then the player gets immersed without feeling like his intelligence is being insulted. There are many cases of walking simulators that fail at this (Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Virginia, and so on), but there are also many examples of W-powered experiences that manage to present a believable and surprisingly gripping package despite the very basic mechanics and illusion of being in control.
It's a medium that's basing its existence mostly on the technological visual advancements available, but at the same time it's a very restrictive vision of what technology is capable of. Highly imaginative, yet incredibly lazy and gimped when one thinks about it. But maybe it's the beauty of it...or maybe not.

Didn't played it yet, but from the videos i have seen, it seems to me that enemies are way to tanky and sustain one to many hits. Does it just seems that way since i haven't played it yet, or is it really like that?

Playing on normal... how long is the game? I've died three time and I'll be extremely pissed off if I "run out of deaths". Non optional Permadeath is retarded in my opinion, it prevents me from experimenting with the combat mechanics for fear of dying, making me always use the same couple of "safe" moves... it restricts gameplay and serves no purpose IMHO

They are. Even the "sword of the gods" you get from the tree doesn't seem to make a difference. The combat is weak and annoying with auto locked-on enemies and Senua taking up most of the screen so you can't see shit. And it's also almost the only part of the "game" with gameplay, next to finding glyphs in the surroundings. Which also doesn't work too well; you have to stand in the exact spot to trigger them.
I hope I can turn down difficulty to easy just to get to the ending.
As a game, this falls short. Story is ok-ish, but to be fair, I thought that What Remains of Edith Finch was a lot more interesting to run through, and the stories had a way bigger impact on me.
There must have been a door there in the wall, when I came in.
Truly gone fishing.

I can't honestly say that enemies are tanky..at least most enemies aren't.However, you start encountering some tough enemies closer to the end-game though. But if you abuse bullet-time (which you should) it takes considerably less time to kill them. So, yeah, some end-game enemies are somewhat tanky, but certainly not the most tanky enemies I've seen in games. The "problem" is not their tankiness..it's just the game suddenly starts throwing at you packs of mobs. I finished HB on normal.

Holy crap this game! Hooked the PC to TV and enjoyed some couch play for it - and boy there's enough to enjoy - it's exactly what I wanted to play.
If the psychosis is anything near what the game shows, it's unimaginable what sick people experience.
Fighting is ok, has a bit of something from more games, but sure it's not DS style
I'm close to finish, couldn't beat it in one gameplay, but even so, it's long enough.
As for gfx, some low res textures here and there, but there's so much eyecandy, that it's easy to miss them. I spent a lot of time playing with the photo mode.

Call it what you want, hate it if you want, but disabling any graphics setting in this game would be a travesty.

I don't like that at all really, as it makes the image edges annoying to look at.
And i can't remember if there ever was a game where the effect was well done.
I prefer a crisp looking image without any distortions.

I usually disable CA in any game, but I played this entirely on the TV ( which is 5m away ) and CA didn't bother me. Seeing the shots on the monitor, CA is intrusive.
Gorgeous game nonetheless.
