I use the word retard(ed) sometimes with no intention of insulting actual disabled people and also make racist jokes. I just make sure to pick my audience and have proper context established, so that it is clear I'm only jesting.

For me it's the usual ameriderp arrogance of subjecting the rest of the world to their standards... Slavery in the US was everyone's fault so the rest of the world needs to react the same way to that as they do.
Replace slavery in that context with gender, political correctness, etc. Even black people in the us see this, saw an interview with wood harris a while back in which he said one of the reasons he thinks foreign black actors are better is in part due to them not carrying the same baggage/heritage as blacks in the us do.

Yep, that was exactly my initial reaction. Then I've tried informing myself, by reading/watching some stuff about this supposed drama (not without struggling), and I came up with the conclusion that Who gives a fuck was indeed the correct reaction to describe the whole thing.
There's nothing to do, I really really detest the fact that the gaming world has been permanently tainted by such pathetic and worthless weekly warfares, not only it's a degrading freak show involving people and themes that have very little to do with gaming in the first place, but it's the mirror of a broken society that has completely lost the sense of balance and measure. I wish Sawyer could redesign society, perhaps the result would be boring but you can bet that it'd be an improvement over what we have now.

6 months laters the whole gaming video eco system is still suffering, revenue down by 50-75% for 6 months straight with no changes in sight.

i have at least 10 gaming channels begging me now for patreon of my subscibed list, with a new one begging begging a month, showing how their revenue crashed showing their graphs . and i follow maybe 20 channels
That's my take on it.
It's a shit thing to do, but ANY gaming channel that ends with "Please support me on patreon.." I unsub and wish their panhandling the best of luck.
Want money? Be better than most the other guys if you want to do it for a living, and have a plan other than "edit video, toss on free hosting platform, profit" business plan if this is your livelihood.
If you have to beg me for patreon, obviously it wasn't good enough to start with for me to want to join your patreon voluntarily.
Its the 1860's goldrush of the internet age. A few people strike gold and hordes of people 'move west' to cash in on easy street.
Bottom line, you want MY money, make something worth paying for. Gaming reviews, and lets plays isnt that (to me) there is a million and one of them out there and 99% of them are the same.
For me channels like Vsauce, Smarter Everyday, Jays2Cents, AvE, Electroboom, etc are worth helping support. They actually provide and DO something.
And I know Im sounding like I'm beating a dead horse, but the lofty dream job of "OH I like playing games! I want to stay home and do it for a living! It worked out for 0.001% of the people trying let me jump full hog into making that my only career option." Only works out for so many.

I'm not anti-patreon, but I do have more respect for entertainers who don't plug their patreon every 5 minutes. A youtuber that I liked recently got a bunch of bad news: 1) he was renting a house, that house now had a new owner, he was being kicked out with short notice 2) while at a convention, a pipe broke in the house and it got flooded. Also the house had asbestos in it and now shit was ruined.
I'd absolutely donate to a cause like that, I've been watching him for years and that's worth at least a small donation. But instead, he didn't create a patreon or a gofundme page, he just asked people to be patient as his next videos will be delayed and he included a link to the redcross and asked people to donate to support those affected by the hurricanes. Dude's legit.
Now while I'm not interested in giving 5$ to 10 youtubers, every month, through patreon, I don't complain about them making sponsored content in return. I'll be skipping through the Audible and Blue Apron segments, but it doesn't ruin my enjoyment of a video if they have them. I'm not paying for patreon or youtube red, so I don't have any issue with them getting a sponsor. If I'm not paying, and if advertisers aren't paying anymore, then someone has to. Might as well be sponsors.
I have about 5 subs on YT as a result its pretty funny.
But I dont give a fuck and go out or read a book instead, seriously these posers need a life lesson including the fucking SJW journalists... my god the new generation is so whingy
