It's like condensed Stranger Things and much more intense. The Losers Club was amazing, their lines were hilarious. Pennywise performance was excellent.
Just great movie all around. One thing I would've liked though is...
Spoiler:
to see the actual form of IT, but maybe they'll do that in the sequel
It's opening really big, and if all goes well, it will be the biggest opening for a horror film - ever, and second biggest R-rated opening regardless of genre (right after Deadpool).
The good news: Part 2, and conclusion to the story, will definitely be made.
The bad news: Expect a lot of scary clown cosplay this Halloween
TWIN PEAKS is "something of a miracle."
"...like nothing else on television."
"a phenomenon."
"A tangled tale of sex, violence, power, junk food..."
"Like Nothing On Earth"
decent horror movie, in some cases more true to the novels than the original but pennywise is nothing more than a special effects showcase. he has no personality, he's not amusing, he's not scary. it's great for a stephen king movie but i feel people will always hurt without tim curry
might i add that a lot of the scenes from the trailer that put people off are A LOT better in the movie, don't be offput by the trailer. it's definitely worth a watch.
First, if I hadn't seen the original 4-part series (because that is what it was), like going in blind, I'd give it a 9.0, easily. It's well done. The casting and effects are just superb.
I'll actually score it way lower though, and my reasons for this are hidden below.
Spoiler:
The 'Georgie' scene is where we first see Skarsgård's 'attempt' (yes attempt) at what Curry done so masterfully in original, which was to instil fear, through various creepy face expressions and humour, but still come across as terrifying. Skarsgård fails in this respect, and I admit that it is a difficult scene to reproduce, without 'copying' the original, but the performance is 'wooden' here. It relies on good effects, whereas the original had none.
It sets a tone for the movie, and not a great one.
We rarely see Skarsgård say 'anything' to each of the characters, it's mostly 'whispers' and such, and when we do, we are blinded by special effects, nothing on a 'personal' level, again, like in original.
Skarsgård is locked in some closet, until the movie deems it's time for him to come out, even then, we never ever see the performance that Curry got so right on a 'personal' level with the children involved.
Half way through movie, you know that this isn't going to be completed until the next one, and there will be a next one, as at the end it says 'Chapter One', not that I needed that to find out, because in original, it ended when the 'Losers Club' were grown men, and there was no way you could tell this story in 135mins
Bev comes across as a whore, which is just not true, according to book, and original, and her father was way weirder than portrayed.
I deduct 2.0 from score in this case.
7.0 from me, but the 'Losers Club' is just hilarious, and actually keeps the movie a-FLOAT (get it) lol
Most if not all people who have seen the original prior to this one rate it lower than others. It eliminates the nostalgia effect, I guess. I'll wait for the web dl
Bored out my skull, couldn't wait to get out of the IMAX
Appreciate its probably a good movie (the wife was scared out of her wits) but knowing the book back to front killed any suspense for me.
I know, I kinda of expected this , but there were elements from the book that were changed , most likely due to certain parts being 'un-filmable' (e.g Patrick Hocksetter....).
For whats its worth, I think the Skarsgard fellow done a good job.
But only a 10 hour movie/series could ever do the book justice.

#1 opening for horror movie (along with breaking several other records).
On a $35M budget this is printing money.
If WB are any smart, along with making Part 2 of course, they should be looking to resume development on their The Stand adaptation, that got shelved recently.

It was quite good but wasn't scary at all. Felt like a good long episode of Stranger Things. Good casting with a good amount of humour.
Questions:
Spoiler:
1. I didn't get the whole floating deal.
2. The kiss that jolts Bev back to life(?) was super cliché. Was it part of the book?
3. The clown story? How it all started and why is he doing all of it?
Overall a very enjoyable movie. 7.5/10.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

Spoiler:
1 - this made no sense and only the phrase is borrowed from the source material
2 - Again, Bev waking up from a kiss made no sense. Dumb, dumb, dumb.
3 - Hopefully they will expand on this in chapter 2 from the book origins. Leaving it out would turn 'It' into a cheap B movie monster clown
The original wasn't even a good movie. It's only remembered because of Curry's performance.
Which is called 'good acting' He made it what it was, because he had the talent to do so, Skarsgård doesn't, and I'd take the former over 'special effects' any day.
You will never get acting like this in new movie, simple, but effective...
See what I mean?
And for those who remember, lol...

It was a very good remake but I was also expecting it to be more different. I think I would have liked it more if Id not seen the 1990 version as I knew what was coming in pretty much every scene.
Looking forward to Chapter Two though. And despite the jump scares I didnt jump once but I did enjoy it.
IT arrived on Earth in a cataclysmic event millions of years ago, landing in the section of North America where the town of Derry, Maine, would eventually be built. IT slumbered beneath the Earth for millions of years, awaiting the arrival of Mankind.
