Hey guys,

I need your inputs Smile

No matter what I do, I cannot get passed 2800 read speeds on my m2 drive.

Tried the 2 on board M2 slots and on a pcie adapter card 4x.

Same results, I'm running on Pcie 3rd gen x4. I'm sure it's because of the new x299 chipset and probably will be fix with some updates on the bios or and chipset.

But I was wondering if any of you guys encountered such an issue and is it really a question of updates more then me not setting the stuff properly.

Other then that, no problems whatsoever.

*Edit : If I use my pcie adapter and set it into the 2nd pcie 16x normally used for an other video card, will it speed up things or it won't change anything ? Or is it even possible to use the adapter in a lane higher then 4x ?

Thanks

Install the NVMe driver. It makes a difference, more so on WinXboxPhone10.

Yeah, already done all of this. Latest Samsung driver...Latest firmware etc etc... I really literally tried everything I can think of.

Thanks though! Smile

Something in BIOS then. Run CrystalDiskMark (not the best, I know), but I want to see what your drive gives. I have 950 Pro M2, so I can give you a comparison Wink

My drive is getting on a bit, and I have the 512Gb partitioned off into 125 for OS, the rest as I see fit. Here is a run I just done:

Note the 'yellow', which is all you should be concerned about, aka, 4k reads/writes Wink Forget the rest.

I can't upload right now as I am at work but with Crystal software, I've got 2848 seq. read and at 4k I have 52.81 read and 244.9 write.

I also made 2 partitions. 180 for OS and the rest for games.

My options in bios are all fine. Everything setup to x4 gen 3 etc etc...

I'm really starting to think that it is just a question of chipsets updates or bios or both...I'll see in the coming weeks what gives.

Maybe but why the hell does it not show 3500 read sequential speeds like it normally should ? lolll!!

That way I would be 100% sure it's not the drive itself.

Anyways, it's all good. I'll keep an eye in the coming weeks.

Other then that, blazing fast nonetheless.

What about raid 0 with 2 of those, is there a true gain in performance or it's just not really worth it ?

The specified speeds of a given drive are the 'manufacturer tested' speeds, and these are the 'top most' figures (seq) write/read, aka, the ones they quote for packaging (on the box), but one is very lucky if they are even close to this quote in reality. Yours is actually pretty good, from what info you have given Wink, the 3500?, lol, forget that, it means nothing, believe me, likewise, nor does my 2222 in testing. A good drive these days, does over 50 in the 4K range, and yours does this no problem.

As for Raiding the drives, yes, it will improve, but not to the point that you will notice anything. I had 2 of these 950's in RAID0 (stupidly) in the beginning, and yes, the figures looked great Laughing , but could I tell the difference between one or two?, nope, and wanna know why?

Each is fast enough on it's own, so it goes past the point of seeing very little difference in real usage terms, including Gaming, that the extra cost and little benefit that RAID0 brings to these drives, is just not worth it. You will not load anything faster (to the eye) with a pair, against one. I got rid of the other 950, as (apart from space) it just wasn't worth it.

My 2c.

Yeah, I understand what your saying. And I agree wholeheartedly.

If my 4k speeds are in the norm then I'm satisfied.

Thank you for your Raid 0 input...Saves me a lot of dollars loll!!

On the other hand I really like my Raid 0 for my 2x2tb WD drives. That was worth it. Very Happy

Alright then, thanks again to have taken time to clear things up.

Take care!
