Nah, it's not just you. It's one of those games where you're all but guaranteed to die a bunch until you've earned enough points to pump up your passive health/shields/energy. It doesn't help that the "flight model" isn't really one. It's more akin to driving a car than flying a ship.

Game looks pretty, ship AI voice sounds good, but the flying and gameplay loop are just not fun.

Yeah, it IS kinda frustrating to die even from the lowest of enemies if you don't evade like crazy and avoid all damage lol. I remember it being easier in EA.

My first death was about 30 mins in. Just a second before I kill the first elite ship. Some other lesser ships spawned during my 1v1 fight and killed me from behind. Sad
Then I died 3 times in various stupid ways (killed by mines even tho I wasn't even near them, nuked from defense turrets because I didn't know the minable ore was private and 1 more from getting between outlaw and okkar ships). The 4th run was going pretty good. Found good weapons, had tons of missiles, used some consumables that give permament +50 energy. And then in the second sector I warp in just to get ambushed by an elite corvette and 3 other fighters. Somehow they wrecked me within second without being able to move even 200 meters.

Nevertheless I like the game, it's some crossover between Faster Than Light and Freelancer even tho the few weapons are almost the same and make little difference. But are only 2 ships to unlock? Neutral

Well, I got bored pretty quickly. It looks nice but the gameplay is meh. Also, I found the controls weird using a gamepad, you have to use left trigger and left button to move forward and reverse. I thought it would be better if you could actually use the left stick to move forward/reverse as in push/pull. I don't know, anyway give it a try, but I think it's a missed opportunity.

The game was designed for mouse and keyboard, the controller was just shoehorned in. Try it this way, maybe youll feel different.

I only play FPS's and Strategy games with keyboard and a mouse, but you're right, I think it will be a better experience with keyboard & mouse, will give it another shot.

Yes, I also tried with gamepad first but it really sucks. As weird as it sounds these days for any non-FPS or RTS game keyboard and mouse is the way it's meant to be played.

I like the game, maybe because I haven't played a space sim for a long time, but it got it's qualities. There are different things like ship wrecks to salvage, space storms that damage your shield, black holes, "boss" ships that can drop keys to open special containers but it's still not enough. If them improve it with few expansions or just release a better and bigger sequel, it can be one of the best space games ever (not that there is much competition right now).

The main problem with the game (which I was hoping they could improve after the Early Access phase) is that the technical aspects don't go hand in hand with the contents and the formula itself.

It's a damn shame, because the visuals are gorgeous, it's well optimized, mouse controls and the actual shooting are good, but...for me the various areas are uninteresting, there's little depth, basically no narrative at all and the rinse-and-repeating experience simply isn't rewarding enough in my opinion. When a game becomes a chore without surprising the player in any way, then it's time to press the shift-delete abort button. Razz (which is what I did)
We're living the renaissance of digital space, yet proper space action games (SP) are such a rare breed. Well, there would be Star Citizen on the horizon...but we're talking about something inhabiting the MACS0647-JD galaxy Okay Laughing

To be fair this is a game that only made $400k in Kickstarter and in less than 2 years already has much more to do than Star Citizen with its $150 million after 4 years. And about the uninteresting areas that's the bless and curse for having procedural generated zones. Hand-made levels (probably) would've had much more excitement in them but then the game would've become boring lot faster.

So, I started playing this game today.

Is it mainly just running away from those strong fighter ships and dying most of the time?

Also, are there really only 3 ship typse?

Three ships - light, medium (default), heavy.

Light can use cloak but can't use certain weaponry.
Medium is the jack of all trades.
Heavy doesn't get a shield at all but makes up for it with massive hull health and the ability to equip an auto-turret (the only ship that can).

Run away from capital class ships until you've got the armament to deal with them, like an ARC-9000 nuke and 10+ heavy missiles.

You also have the ability to equip super-powerful and unique buffs (up to three per ship). You discover said buffs behind locked red circular doors (it looks like a floating white cube, go up to it to scan it), and the second category of them in "ruins" after a difficult fight (I can't say much more or it would spoil it )

Usually however, these optional buffs also come with a downside. One I've been using called Sensor Overload shows me every piece of loot as well as every enemy in the zone, but I can't see enemy shield or health bars. Worthy trade-off in my opinion.

Best ship type is the light (scout) class in my opinion. The rail gun you start off with lets you pick off drones at a distance of up to 4km, which is incredibly helpful later on. You're also light enough to be able to circle strafe around missiles. Add to that the fact that you start with a cloak (which lets you buy time to recharge shields or escape), and you've got a hell of a ship. Time Extender also works wonders. Very Happy

Isn’t this game still early access? Is the expansion included for people that already bought the game or will it be extra? Just curious. I have my eye on this but last I heard it wasn’t finished.

Great news - but 2021 huh? Jumping out a bit early there with the trailer. Maybe Epic exclusives won't be a thing by then, but if they still are I guarantee these guys are going to go that route.

Others went egs after actually taking money off ppl promising steam keys, a simple trailer is zero guarantee.

That release date tho. Jumped the gun a bit there. Razz

Well, Immunity guaranteed an EGS exclusivity. My perspective was more balanced, maybe a bit optimistic.

There's your problem. Optimism? In this life? Or more accurately, in the current state of the gaming industry?! Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Let's be realistic here - so many devs have jumped ship as soon as Epic started jingling that bag of money in front of their nose - prior promises (whether they were to Steam, their crowdfunding backers, or their loyal fans) carry absolutely no weight among most developers today.
