No way, Peter Molynmeuxmuenx still holds that title.
yeah, this accomplishment by hello games could be a fluke. Molieneux has a really good track record that is to be beat!
True that. We are talking a dozen games by an established studio with established franchises, with experienced designers and programmers, decent budgets - often Microsoft backing them - that did exactly the same or worse.
The planets in No Man’s Sky are supposed to be, well, planet-sized. Most players will only see a small percentage of any locale, if that, before boredom sets in and another planet is explored. One man, however, has decided to undertake a pilgrimage that is testing the limits of his sanity, if not the limits of the planet generation itself.
The plan was to keep walking forward until he circled back to his ship, no matter how long it took.
With this patch, No Man’s Sky is now broken up into three modes: Normal (the original No Man’s Sky), Creative (base-building mode), and Survival (which the developers describe as “a much more challenging endurance experience”). The folks behind No Man’s Sky say that patch 1.1, which they’re calling the Foundation Update, is “the first of many free updates.”
Most notably, the Foundation Update adds a full base-building system, along with the ability to construct permanent navigation waypoints on planet surfaces and freighters that you can buy and bring with you from system to system. It also gives you three different game modes: the standard way we’ve been playing, a challenging survival mode where resources are limited and you’re expected to die over and over, and a free creation mode where you don’t have to worry about resources or money.
* Planetary vehicles, obtained permanently through a new series of missions, that make exploring and resource-collecting easier and give you a bit more firepower.
* The ability to create races for these vehicles on a particular planet and share it with other players.
* Base sharing - so players can explore each others' creations. On Steam this integrates with Steam workshop, which will help enormously with discovery.
* Base customisation options have "more than doubled".
* PS4 Pro support.
* A new ship / weapon specialisation system, plus the ability to start collecting loads of them.
* Permadeath mode, plus further tweaks to the existing Survival mode.
* Visual improvements (ultra resolution textures, new lighting effects, HDR mode).
* New traders all over the place, and a new currency.
* A dedicated photo mode, featuring input from DeadEndThrills.
* Changes to the discovery menu.
* Eight new tunes
* Various QOL improvements, tweaks and bug fixes.
Played this last night having not played the game since last August before the last two big updates and wow, I intended it being less than an hour and it was almost 4 hours, the changes and improvements they have made are certainly commendable.
I last played this on release day, was horrified and disappointed in equal measure and never again...and I like this type of game, really was the 'target market'.
Now I read how much it's improved, different game, lots more content etc - is it true? Can pick it up dirt cheap or even gratis on some platforms (ahem) ...worth another try headshot?

Better wait till 1.3 and then give it a final chance
Is Sean Murray trolling everyone again??!! Supposedly this 'massive' update was going to hit today (21st July) but all is quiet. Guess he's still counting his cash from the first time around
The game's new story campaign will focus on a fresh interdimensional race. "Our story brings a new context, quest system and branching narrative to No Man's Sky," Hello added. It comprises 30 hours of new story content and double the lore and interactions of the existing game.
The current game is leaps and bounds ahead of the launch product which is really quite an admirable achievement. I put a lot of hours in before the Foundations update but it got stale and I lost interest. This week Im restarting my journey and really rather enjoying it
Yah I didn't really play much.. I think I explored the hell out of the starting planet, and then a tiny bit when I got my ship up and running on another planet, then quit.
Happy to try again! Seems like some significant updates (finally)
I really like the game with the new update. Problems? Lots of bugs, mostly minor/annoying, couple major. Also extremely grindy.
No Man's Grind
I think it will always be grindy lol. That's probably one of the biggest turn offs yet I still play it. Once you get the upgrades and become free of inventory space issues it becomes more enjoyable.
Also early on before any significant updates the most annoying thing was the constant PSBSOD! Every time I would warp it would crash the game which is probably the main reason I stopped playing a few months after launch.
Found my first portal and man it was exciting. Unfortunately it wasn't quite as straight forward as I was expecting it to be lol. I figured it would be just press a button and walk through a teleport but nope :/
Nearly two years after launching to widespread controversy, universe-sized space adventure No Man’s Sky is finally getting the one feature that it should have had on day one: Multiplayer. During the most recent episode of Inside Xbox this week, Hello Games director Sean Murray announced that No Man’s Sky NEXT — this summer’s major update — will bring “a full multiplayer experience” to the game on July 24th, totally free of charge.
Not only will the update come to PS4 and PC, but it will also be available alongside the Xbox One launch, which Hello Games announced in March. In fact, all four massive content updates will be available when the game hits Xbox One, including Foundation, Pathfinder, Atlas Rises, and NEXT (which we’re still learning about).
2 years later and it’s finally becoming the game it should have been! I got back into it recently in anticipation for this NEXT week
