Which release did you watch/recommend?

Your Name (Kimi no Na wa) (2016) [BD 1080p Hi10P 5.1 AAC][kuchikirukia]v3.mkv

Code:
CRF 16 qcomp 0.75
Audio is QAAC q127 from DTS-MA

v3 is now with MTBB’s styled subs, though edited to return most of the dialogue to retail since I didn’t agree with most of their translation choices, and I’ve added one sign of my own to theirs.
Default track has had honorifics added and the in-movie lyrics cut since I found those to distract from what was going on.
Second track is without honorifics and with lyrics.
And there’s my retail edit with honorifics and crappy retail signs.
And then there’s the Blu-ray PGS subs.

And now I’m going to bed since this took me all night.

what was it about the end that had you yelling? Think it was a nice ending. A happy ending. Nothing like the other crowd favourite anime movies here, which serves only to make you depressed.

Your Name was good. There was another anime movie called A Silent Voice/Koe no Katachi released last year as well though which I thought was even better.

Never heard of it. Apparently Your Name's director praised it, saying about it "I do not think I'm very likely to be able to replicate it."

Will watch.

Just came back from a triple feature Planet of the Apes and I have to say that the third one was good. 7-7.5/10, but the first and second movies are better imho.

i liked it, mostly, but i feel like the ending ruins it. If it'd been left really ambiguous, it would have made for a really really good thriller, but by saying

Samurai Cop - it was somehow enjoyably bad to see how badly montaged and shot the movie can be with some of the most awful dialogue out ther.

Samurai Cop 2: Deadly Vengeance - purposefuly bad, it didn't had the "charm" of the original and truly I didn't know what the hell was the plot in it.

Alien: Covenant - 6.5/10

I feel like nothing happened in this film. The Engineers storyline barely advanced, the crew didn't learn of anything (Do they even know what the Engineers are by the end of the film? I don't think so.), they just went in, they died, and the survivors left. That's it. (Okay, and they explained the origins of the Alien, big whoop).

Second act's alien CGI was very bad, the bit after they left the planet was entirely unnecessary and felt out of place (that fucking shower scene felt like it should had been end of act 1 material) and the twist I called it from very early, and also disagree with their choice to execute it, I wish they hadn't done that. All characters were entirely unmemorable (with the exception of Walter/David).

What I liked was the ship/space CGI, and Fassbender who simply put was excellent. Can we have the next of these films star just Fassbender. Have him play all the roles, as androids! Hell, have him play the Alien too. He is that good!

If it wasn't for Fassbender my advice would be to skip this film. However, he is so good, I definitely recommend that one watches it, for him!

Gifted

Reaaaalllyyy formulaic..

But a great formulaic film is still a great film. Predictable as hell, cliche, but still really touching, and well acted with some great scenes. I'm a guy, so of course I don't cry, but I did notice an unusual abundance of dust in the air while I watched.

Alien Covenant - 5/10
I was mentally and physically prepared this time around, my expectation-o-meter was carefully set to -1, the stale popcorns were ready to be chewed in a boring manner and yet, the movie still got me. God damn it Okay Laughing

How not to learn from past mistakes: volume II. The amount of completely moronic decisions from the entire crew was mind numbingly staggering (first prize however goes to the captain), going along with the accidental comedy moments that you would expect from Scooby Doo, Alien taekwondo, ninja baby majin buus and groot, the magical spores, yer instant evolutionary methods, all fueled by the (at this point signature) "let's go on a suicidal adventure!" theme.

It's almost like a tradition to use Prometheus as the gauge to measure disappointment and wasted potential, well, this one for me offered the exact same values, only with the extenuating circumstance that my expectations were zero this time around. Some questionable casting choices didn't help either (not a fan of yeee-haw McBride, the resting bitch face Upworth, even the co-protagonist herself didn't really work in my opinion), without mentioning the CGI still not cutting it, Stormtrooper's aiming (another classic), we need your faith.

Having occasional quality cinematography once again for me couldn't salvage an immense train wreck like this, with the rare sense of tension being punctually ruined by the complete ineptitude of the writing team, but also by whoever gave them the greenlight (who's just as guilty), all wrapped up in a budget-y teen horror atmosphere to double the dose. The reason why I didn't go for a lower score is, like Consolitis said, The good ol' Fass, hands down the highlight of the movie, far more unsettling than the monsters themselves and the only one able to act and create a creepy atmosphere (I liked the ending, also). But obviously, this still was not enough. Ridley pls

Alien Covenant 8.5/10. Absolutely loved it, I liked Prometheus too but Covenant is the better i think.

So many nice little details, loved David's paintings (who looked like they were done by H.R Giger) Very Happy Dark and gritty in the exact right ways, entertaining from start to end and without getting annoying (Prometheus did have some annoying scenes and Rapace isn't a favorite).

This is still the best have in the genre i think, just compare this to something like Life (which is recently saw), it's miles ahead, way more fun. I can't be arsed to care about science in a science-fiction movie tbh, imo it's like being bothered by magic in a fantasy movie - yes it's totally over-the-top and ridiculous, but it comes with the genre.. This is mindless sci-fi-horror (so not one but two genres who are not to be taken the least seriously!) If something makes total sense (science, or how someone decide to kill someone or something), it's just a happy coincidence Wink

Totally agree. Still can't understand people here and elswehere on the Internets evaluating it as hardcore sci-fi action and horror while it's totally not about it. Oh, well the good old principle at work - "If I don't understand it - I bash it and give it 2/10". *sigh*

King Arthur, Ritchie one... I just can't get through this. Tried 3 times (got to the middle) but fuck it, it's bad.

Everyone in it acts/looks like a douchebag. That woman mage, her acting is especially obnoxious. The writing... so smart yo, couldn't even be arsed to get the 2000's lingo out of it.

Also what is up with slamming every 'cool' bits he ever done in his previous movies into this one... it's all over the place.
