Still NOT available for my other MSI Laptop (GS70). Waiting..

Updating to Creators only took 30-40 mins so not damn shabby. As mentioned no major issues although people online are lamenting the loss of Control Panel in the StartMenu / bottom-left Windows Icon UNTIL you tell them just use the SEARCH function and its still there. Neutral

Don't really have much problems with it so far... most of the issues I have quickly re-addressed (seems they happen each time a new major OS Upgrade like this one occurs) but otherwise its all re-stablilzed once more.

Well, the Creators Update seemed to gone rather smoothly. Just took like 30 minutes to install, even with a SSD. Rolling Eyes

Just one thing i noticed afterwards: I'm using a VPN, and sometimes when opening a webpage it can take like 5 seconds before it begins to load the content. Doesn't seem to happen without VPN.
But it definately never happened with VPN on before that update.
Already updated Intel LAN driver, but didn't seem to help either. Embarassed

And another problem since the this update: Some .jpgs i saved via Firefox landed as .jfif files on my disk.

Had to edit the entry under:

Game mode should still be disabled or is it actually doing anything good now ?

Also - I am disabling paint3d with powershell but it's still there... I man I still have context menu "edit with paint3d" and it just starts and reenables when I click it.
How to really remove apps? Powershell seems to just disable this stuff

Got that fixed with beta version of my VPN client.

Seems the idiots at Microsoft changed something with the DNS implementation.

CCleaner works well when it comes to uninstalling apps, I've been using it for quite some time now and there haven't been any problems. And yep, the Game mode is still pretty much useless Razz

So, after the news that standard Paint will get removed soon, i took a look at Paint3D.

My first reaction after it opened: LOL Are You Serious

Visually it doesn't look too bad. But the functionality is so shit and sometimes hidden its just disgusting.

With Paint you had every function in view. In Paint3D you have so many different tabs, each with a few functions in them.

Also i wonder who exactly is their target audience with that tool?
It can't be professional artists. And casual people will close this crap after a few minutes anyways.

Microsoft really have mostly retards in charge of their decisions. Rolling Eyes

BTW, shouldn't it be possible to just backup mspaint.exe?

As I said - it's sill available in Windows Store. So anyone who actually needs it, can download it.

Why the fuck would they outsource it to WinStore though?
I expect that especially then they would need to keep it updated?

So how are you fellas getting the anniversary update installed on 'not so legal' versions of Win10 ? Mine keeps failing

I`ve tried a couple of ways and both fail to install Sad

Just noticed something..

When I go for upgrade my Product ID disappears! and when I kill it its back 'activated' again

I've been reluctant to upgrade to 10 because of compatibility problems with Windows XP games but I decided to build a 2007-era machine just to insure compatibility with Windows XP games so I no longer have to worry about Windows 10 breaking games (Windows 8 already broke enough, really).

But now my question is: what's the current state of Windows 10? I already have a key ready to be used but are there any serious issues I need to be aware of?

Not much that I'm aware of.

Windows Vista x64 and later OS's removed 16-bit compatibility so it's 32/64 instead of 16/32 but that's very old software so it's unlikely to be a huge issue.

Windows 7 broke D3D9 a bit with a function for VRAM when it exceeds 4 GB which I believe is pretty rare, upcoming Redstone 3 version of Windows 10 recently had this issue fixed after Microsoft was made aware of it and could create a workaround.

Think this came up mostly due to mods for Bethesda games where you will hit pretty hefty VRAM and RAM usage since these games weren't really intended for 4096x4096 near uncompressed texture assets.

The bigger annoyances tend to be the UI redesign splitting off and gradually removing the classic control panel in favor of the settings app (Though even in RS3 you need to use both to have access to everything, control panel is a bit more hidden but not outright removed.) in addition to this there's also decisions on Microsoft end on usability and automation so toning down things like automatic update checks (Even including drivers, now there's something that can quickly turn into a mess.) and the data and statistics info for troubleshooting can take a bit of work if you haven't used Windows 10 much before. Smile

RS2 also decoupled most of the bundled services for systems with more than 4 GB RAM so don't be too alarmed to see tons of services and processes, they've just been separated instead of being grouped together into a few larger categories. Very Happy
(So now you'll actually see superfetch doing some work instead of the system process suddenly spiking in CPU and HDD usage.)

Enhancements to DirectX 11(.4) and 12 and the underlying DXGI and WDDM feature set also exist and there's updates to .NET although the DirectX support files and VC++ runtimes are still not part of the OS by default so you'll still need that DX June 2010 runtime at least once and whatever VC++ redists the game or software you're trying to run is dependent on.
(Anti-trust or something, on that note try to avoid the N version without IExplorer and Windows Media Player since there's games actually relying on these codecs and other stuff not being stripped out.)

There's also the limited service branch edition which is seeing less updates and branch switches plus it's stripped down in other features too lacking much of the Win10 Store and UWP functionality for example.

Other than that Enterprise is probably what you'd want to have full feature access or alternatively the Pro edition which works just fine too although there's a couple of advanced settings that outright require Enterprise to take effect.
(Curiously some of these relate to the update system and privacy settings, you'd think Pro would have these too for power users and the like but nope.)

I'm probably missing some other things, it's a pretty big change and the whole 6-month service system with two major build updates every year is also changing things around a bit but you aren't required to immediately do what basically ends up being a complete OS re-install twice a year either, you do have the option to defer the update for I think it's at least one year now.

"UI Redesign"

Main issue..

Along the SSD 2 SSD content copying asking for the overwritting prompt later once all files have been checked first (On W7 the prompt appeard in a blaze when trying to copy , in my case, a 60GB folder, then ofcourse do the OW'ing later)

Why try to fix something that's completely working just fine on W7?...

Among whatever restrictions and crap that you must modify for admin stuff so it becomes W7 again, even though it sacrifices some functions or whatever...

I know they might not fix this at all but until then no W10 jump.
