I've seen a lot of people suggest jumping in to contested areas, grabbing a weapon and start blasting. Basically trial by fire method to learn how to use the weapons. This is fine as long as you have learned how to parachute effectively and can land quickly, although expect to die a lot.
I usually try to land in one of the larger towns that's not real close to the flight path and, if you are fortunate, may have few if any other people and give you time to loot up. If I am able to find a good rifle and a 4x or better scope, I try to head somewhere remote and snipe, if possible. If not, I try to find a location with as much cover as possible and bunker down until I see where the circle is moving to.
Be careful of houses and towns just inside the circle. And to be honest, be leery of any building as the game progresses as there are often people in them and they can be hard to see.
You are usually the safest on the outside edge of the circle, especially as the game progresses. While getting in the center of the white circle may seem like a great idea, you will often find yourself right in the middle of more than one player, which rarely goes well.
Be mindful of the circle and your ability to get to the next area. I can't tell you how many times I've died by simply not being able to find a vehicle and get there on time, primarily late game when you take damage much faster.
Best way to get better is to obviously play, but watching high level streams is also quite useful. Watching you will often see how the top players use the 3rd person camera view to use cover to see but not be seen.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds introduces paid cosmetics inspired by the Battle Royale movie next month
Quote: | Writing in a Steam community post, developer PlayerUnknown revealed the game will get three new crates inspired by the Battle Royale film.
The first and second crates, named the Wanderer Crate and the Survivor Crate, will be free to open. Each includes one set of the themed clothing, on top of other cosmetic items. However, the third crate, named the Gamescom Invitational Crate, costs real world money to buy.
Players can use Battle Points (BP) to buy crates on the rewards page. The Wander Crate and the Survivor Crate are free to open, however, the Gamescom Invitational Crate must be opened by a key, which players can buy for $2.50 each.
The crates will be pushed out in the game's next monthly update, which has been delayed to 3rd August due to a "client crash bug" suffered last week.
The paid for Gamescom Invitational Crate relates to the Steam hit's first offline Invitational event, set for Gamescom next month.
The event will see 80 of the game's best and most high-profile players from around the world competing in LAN matches for a prize pool of $350,000.
The Gamescom Invitational includes Solo mode, Duo mode, Duo FPP (first-person perspective) mode and Squad mode across the four-day event. The best overall score from three games played determines the winner.
The sale of keys goes towards providing funds needed to organise the event, fuels the tournament prize pool and supports a selection of charities. However, the Gamescom Invitation Crate is time-limited and will not be available when Gamescom ends on 27th August. |

Explain to me how the guy who came through the door warped himself back whilst crouching backwards, it was so quick!
Like how fast can he move backwards? |
The one that came through the door has a scar-l. He stepped back around the corner and the one you shot at through the door that was back in the room has a shotgun. It's not the same person.

a) Try to fly as far outwards of the flying path as possible but towards the center of the map if possible. If you're near the edge, it will mean you're less likely to encounter others and you'll have more time to find gear
b) avoid the cities and towns - instead go for small clusters of buildings. Cities & towns tend to be focus points for other players and surviving there is a matter of luck I find.
c) don't bother shooting at people who aren't near and moving with non-sniper weapons. The game's lag combined with the drop of bullets makes it very hard to hit anyone when they're moving and the only thing you'll do, is betray your position to others and waste ammo. If you got a flash hider and tons of ammo while being in cover, you may risk it but it's still tricky to hit anyone
d) pick up frying pans if you find them. You'll be surprised how many bullets bounce off of them even when it's hanging on your belt.
e) Try to stay well ahead of the circle. It's better to run at the start towards the center and then take your time to find better gear there, than to waste time finding gear only to spend the rest of the time running to catch up with the circle. The latter will usually get you killed out in the open. The former can get you killed initially but at least you won't have wasted too much time then.
f) inventory management is very important. A lot of people make the mistake of picking up too much ammo and too many grenades.
Important to realize: your handgun is your last resort (usually when you don't have time to reload the other guns) so you really don't need more than two dozen bullets.
For second weapon, a shotgun is good choice although others may prefer different guns (even two assault weapons?). Part of it depends on the loot you find, of course, but for shotguns, you don't need more than 30 shells either. It's a close combat weapon and three shots kills anything so by the time you'd ever need 30, you'd long be dead anyway. Not to mention shotgun ammo is pretty easy to find.
For your main gun, you can't really have too much ammo and this should be an assault gun anyway. It's a good tactic to carry several scopes too and switching according to circumstances. When you're about to traverse wide open spaces, a 8x is very useful but when you're in a town, a 2x is much handier for example.
Other than that, paying close attention to open doors, areas that have been looted before you, vehicles being parked near buildings, etc. is very important. The first step towards surviving, is keeping an eye out for other players and keeping yourself close to cover at all times.

I looked at your video and you are doing it wrong. AWM doesn't suck, it's by far the most powerful weapon in the game, but if you don't hold your breath when shooting, it will be useless like all the sniper rifles.

In the bush he moved your gun shot too high you could see the dust.
The windows have wood works, you hit it because some short distance from the barrel, the sights are much higher obviously.

@paxsali
The glass breaking was the sign you were finally starting shooting THROUGH the window and NOT the window frame...
EDIT
nope.jpg! There ARE bullet marks ON THE WINDOW FRAME - black 'uns...

It's called a gun with a scope. The scope is above the barrel, the meeting point between the scope's focal point and the bullet is at the zeroing distance (by default 100m). You have to take into account the barrel's position not the scope or you can end up hitting the frame or the bars.
Shooting through those windows is mostly a waste of time, players at the distance have a huge advantage because it's much easier for them to avoid the bars.

That will be fixed this thursday with the first person servers |
Yes but I also tweeted to PUBG about this, 3rd person does not 'hardcore' make. they need double or triple damage too. can stand this arcadey crap, hitting someone with 7 shots as they jump around.

I disagree. This is a game, so it needs to be balanced first, before being "realistic".
Also if you increase damage too much there will be a lesser distinction between the weapons.
Armor and helmets make and should make a huge difference, so when you say 7 shots 4 are hits 3 misses 2 go to body with level 2 armor 1 goes to level 3 helmet, ... what do you expect to happen? That you scare the enemy to death? |
I'd like to see anyone take 2 rounds of 7.65 to anywhere with any type of body armour and continue to jump around and sprint around like an absolute tit.
Hardcore means Hardcore, none of this arcadey current generation kiddie handholding arcade fucking shite. 1 shot 1 kill, unless your hit on an extremity with a pistol, a MAXIMUM of two shots should be putting people down.
