Is there a way to use the Rift as simple 3D glasses? Like how the Nvidia 3d could make every game stereoscopic 3D with their glasses (even if there would be glitches)?
Not that I was aware of, if it had I'll gladly admit I was wrong as I am interested too. Over on the Russian site it has been mentioned it requires online activation so the current bypass methods don't work

You can use something like Virtual Desktop and run 3d SBS movies and screen based games that support 3d from there - same with BigScreen
In other news, I just spent like 6 hours in Subnautica (moving bases is a long process ), and feel just fine. Only had bursts of dizziness when made sudden turns, but after turning down the mouse sensitivity, even that became manageable.

FYI-The FOV in Subnautica is off in VR. You have to start the game on the desktop, set the flag for the console, reload in VR, enter the ~ to open the console and type FOV 100 (or 90).
This is the only way to see the health bars, etc. Unfortunately, until they fix it, you have to do this every time you load the game.
I just found my game: Eleven Table Tennis.
Cool game and I can see myself running into a wall while trying to hit the ball. Feels like the real thing with realistic physics. Had to fiddle around with the racket position, but once that was done it's really good and you never have to pick up a ball!
Edit: Eleven not elven

Yeah, I got fed up after about 2 seconds and found this workaround. Too bad for some reason I just can't get it to work.
Sure, the actual game-view adjusts to the new FOV, but the HUD elements don't. They seem to be independent of it now. Maybe they weren't with the old HUD, but this new fancy one they introduced in a recent patch doesn't seem to be affected.
Thankfully I can just move the headset a little to the right, that way I can see my health, but the voice-log subtitles and the game messages (like the base-HP updates) are just barely beyond the FOV (I can sometimes make out the relevant number at the end of the message, but shorter notifications are unreadable).

Played 5 hours of onward yesterday (with gun mounts) for the vice and I don't get any motion sickness. Have I become accustomed or has this guy completely perfected VR motion controls?
Game is so goddamn good if you have rifle mounts for the controllers.

I'm definitely buying that game next week! Is the game still alive online ?
Afaik it's one of the most played VR shooters (just that the VR player base is small). I think this is a good go to for people wanting ARMA in VR, the maps are small but it performs well and gunplay is good.
Edit: word of warning, was unplayable with out a gun mounts > aiming a rifle two unanchored controllers in the air is close to impossible.
Nah, not quite, i played it for months with the Oculus Touch, i dont know if its because ive learned the position with airsoft guns, but i found it quite playable. Maybe i gotta try the gun mounts.

It's really tempting... I kinda wanted to but ryzen and sell my 2500k but it appears steamvr performance test says I am "more than ready for hq vr" and so does oculus compat test.
Anyway - Oculus is actually free shipping to Poland it seems. They must be shipping from somewhere nearby. 450 euro.
I have only 2 usb 3.0 ports and few more usb 2 ports. That's not enough? whatever usb3 cards are cheap.
Anyway - Even though I had both dk1 and dk2, I am not sure if rift is worth it. The screen door is probably about as it was on dk2. Is there a good cinema app like for dk1 was ?
Do steam games work with rift? Is there rift half life 2 ?!
Is this true ?
The most fun I had was with dk1. Doom3, hl2, cinema. If the screendoor is not that bad and motion controls are working... it might be cool. I would be able to sell it for same or more in month anyway
Guys convince me not to do it

its obviously nothing like it was on DK2 so yes the video is probably accurate (didnt watch).
you can run steam VR games yes. HL2 does not work, well, i think there's a workaround for it actually, but it seemed rather complicated.
touch is the best thing that has happened to Oculus though, you haven't tried VR if you didn't try it, imo.. it connects you to the world in a very different and more immersive way. for the price it currently has its probably worth it, can't say i've used mine a lot at all but im not huge on games overall these days.
I never tried vr with any motion controls... I only had dk1 and dk2 and those were amazing except their prototypeness... I am really tempted to get the rift. Fuck me because I know most of vr struff is stupid shit gimmicky stuff

Not really mimmicky imo..unlike 3d glasses.
Tbh I do belive that the problem is that the majority of people cannot afford it, it gives motionsickness (to some anyway) and also - the biggest problem of all - there really are very very few games making it worth the money yet,
I consider it a great toy and cinema.
I do not expect full on half life 2 experiences with it..not or few more years and rift/vive 3

I dont think its accurate to say stereoscopic 3D is gimmicky. It's like saying anti-aliasing or hi-res textures are gimmicky to have. Stereoscopic 3D is the biggest graphical upgrade possible immersion wise really.. A measure for good and realistic image quality has always been to have good depth to the image, and with 3D it's obviously on a whole new level.
VR games on the whole though can be gimmicky as hell, no doubt about that.

I'd personally go for Vive over Rift - the Rift has been going through a lot of turmoil in sense of the devs behind it while the Vive has a very stable backer which is not to be underestimated. I own a Vive and it's a very solid and sturdy piece of equipment. It is still more expensive, though, but piece of mind is worth a lot as well and having Steam support it out of the box is a big deal if you ask me.

Yes and no. The end result is not smooth like they show it - when you wear it, you still see the "grain" of the screens although the screen door effect is much reduced. I think that it has become so fine that their camera smoothed it over by default, however - but it's very misleading the way they show it now.
But isn't the screendoor effect worse with the vive?
For me that was one the reasons to not go for the vive, and i wanted it for cockpit games.
I honestly don't notice it - the main thing I notice, are the rings when there's something bright going on. The biggest let down is the resolution which goes for both headsets - like I said many times before, the resolution needs to be at least twice as detailed for the platform to really open up because stuff like text right now is hard to read unless it's relatively big.
