Destiny 2 reported to sell 3 million units on the PC in its first 3 months
Quote:
SuperData has issued a press release, claiming that by analyzing historical data and their proprietary analytics-based metric system, Destiny 2 will sell 3 million units on the PC in its first 3 months. As such, SuperData expects Destiny 2 to become the best-selling premium PC game since Overwatch.
As the press release reads, SuperData evaluated the performance of Destiny 1 on console and how it compared to other AAA titles that launched during the same time period. The forecast also takes into account the expected early September launch date of the title, the impact of a Battlenet release on PC and macro-level digital download trends.
This analysis comes from the newly released SuperData Forecaster, which provides a quantitative analysis of historical sell-through across 500+ titles, enabling a more accurate estimate of future success for upcoming titles. The Forecaster takes into consideration the franchise historically as well as publisher, genre, sales for previous titles, total monthly active users and critic’s reviews, among other factors that influence sales performance.
Sam Barberie, Vice President of Product and Business Development at SuperData Research, said:
“As the buzz around specific titles continues to grow within the digital gaming industry as a whole, the Forecaster offers a unique starting point for those thinking about sales scenarios. By pairing this with the SuperData Arcade, the digital gaming industry can now have a clearer picture of what drives sales success and how their future releases could gain an advantage.”
It's via Blizzard so I can see it hitting that target even with a 60-ish price tag and the delayed launch for the PC platform and even without being on Steam. (And limited content availability since they're favoring the PS4 platform both with timed and full exclusivity for certain DLC.)
We'll see though I suppose, they're landing close to both the Battlefront and Call of Duty launches no? And then there's the existing competition though eh I think pre-orders are going strong even for the PC version last I read so it wouldn't surprise me.
The IP has a lot of followers/hype. Mix that in with the Blizzard crowd and the ability of just buying the game with WoW gold, then the number doesn't seem that overly high.
Don't think the game will be that great, seemed less interesting than Planetside... but i'll see in beta or something.
Blizzard also has the money for hype via marketing and other events, those have a major impact on sales too.
Bungie is still popular too, first game created a bit of a impact and has it's following of fans or how to say so they already established the IP a bit and are now expanding on it further.
Regular patches and content updates and they could probably keep the game active for a long time, well for as long as they're generating revenue I suppose but that probably won't be a problem.
I watched some streams, I don't see anything interesting in this game. The loot is a generic grind, the shooting ain't nothing exceptional and the switch between 1st and 3rd person camera feels just really annoying.
The shooting looks so meh and the weapon's sound is almost annoying.

I will wait, this might actually be an easy skip for me. The shooting didn't look all that good in the gameplay videos and Tarkov might be coming out this year.
ok ok so i got it. you don't like the game but at the same time you also like it?!
otherwise you wouldn't post so much about a game which is pure crap in your eyes.
doesn't seem like such an easy skip for you afterall, there must be a heavy internal battle going on inside your head.
It's just kind of like looking at Mass Effect Andromeda before launch. You know it's a EA game, you've played ME3, and you've seen the game's pre-release demos and know it's going to be utter crap. And yet, we still go talk about it and ended up playing it .

From what did you get that at the same time I also like the game?
I didn't say is pure crap so don't try to put words in my mouth.
As a reviewer, not even the worse AAAs are an easy skip for me. And seriously, cut the crap with the psychoanalysis.

I watched a few streams and it looks kind of boring, tbh.
I'll reserve judgment until I play the open beta on PC next month, but what I saw didn't look that all that great, seems like another overhyped console shooter.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
To this day i still can't understand how anyone can say that Destiny was a good game. Destiny 2 doesn't look any better. Well it looks better, but gameplay and overall gunplay still seems boring as hell.

Destiny is a game you have to play to understand.
It has virtually no shitty gimmicks that so many games rely on nowadays, but is pure solid core gameplay that just feels right and is alot of fun.

I never played it but always gave me the impression it was like Hellgate London, which I played the fuck out of.
Sure Destiny looks better and the gunplay is kind of nice, but that's about it. A Bland and boring setting, characters and probably will have a dull story too.

It is very boring.
I played the beta on my PS4 and you just holding the trigger down the whole time while you shoot these huge bullet spongy enemies.

I agree, Borderlands has so much more and obviously people agree based on what people say about the game.
Destiny's setting is actually pretty great, although it wasn't used properly in the first game - story-wise it sucked until The Taken King, which wasn't awesome either, just proper.
But, I found Destiny's action infinitely better than Borderlands in general. Better shooting mechanics, faster pace, more options and abilities for character classes and much, much better weapon design / feel. Basically, it feels like a proper shooter - Borderlands never did.
Also, I wouldn't judge tactics and challenge factor based on one or first few missions from the very beginning of the game. Original Destiny was adequately challenging and tactical, especially when it comes to its group content (which is what counts the most, IMO).
I won't compare it to Division, since I haven't played that one long enough (didn't like it at all).
Destiny 2 will not be compatible with EVGA Precision, MSi Afterburner, FRAPS, OBS and XSplit

Bungie has announced that Destiny 2 won’t be compatible with a lot of well known third-party monitoring programs. The dev team noted that it will resist attempts by third-party applications to insert code into the game client in order to prevent hackers from getting access to it. As such, programs like FRAPS, EVGA Precision and MSi Afterburner will not be supported.
Not only that, but Bungie is not supporting visual notification features, such as those provided by Discord or Mumble, as well as the Game Capture mode of applications such as OBS and XSplit.

Being as how your opinion and mine about games match at a rate of about 95%, this is very promising news for me.
But of course, that was on consoles. M+K makes console shooters trivial affairs. You don't need tactics, when you can hand out headshots consistently (which is easy with m+k).
Do you think there is enough challenge to be had on a PC?
