How is the game nowadays?
Mainly the combat?

Some time ago i was deciding between this and ESO. Went with ESO for now.
Really enjoying the active combat system there, and that you don't have that dumb tab-targetting like in WoW.

But might want to try FF XIV too in the near future.

i just made the opposite switch ^^
xiv just feels more quality in terms of world detail while eso feels very copy paste imo. even the character design in eso feels silly compared to xiv, plastic like?

I will wait till the Morrowind addon is out for ESO in a few months. Depending on how it is, i will switch over to FF XIV (i enjoyed the trial rather much).

Just started trial on separate account, as it can't be on one where you have paid version (unlike in WoW, where it's possible). But since they removed 14 days trial restriction, i don't have the rush to do something all the day as it was in WoW. About ESO .. i don't know, there is something wrong with the game, never found exactly what was it though.

I have to ask, has FF really improved that much from launch? I just found it... tedious for the first hour or so, and I lost interest really quickly.

I'm more interested in it than I was when I first tried it, near launch.
The beginning of the game can still be quite boring if you follow the opening quests, which are mostly fetching quests. But the game has other activities that can be tackled early on, such as the hunting log, which promote moving around and fighting new monsters. This helps the player keep progressing and move on to the more interesting quests/parts of the game. Also useful for leveling alternate jobs.

Graphics look worse than i remember them when i played the trial a few months ago.
It seems to offer more than the Morrowind expansion though.

Tried the trial. It's hard to get into this game. The start is just a huge drag. I got to level 15 and it's an uninstall for me. Feel no incentive to even start the game. I can understand later it might get better but it's already a huge dissapointment.

Yeah as i told you it's really not a game you can judge just by only playing a few lvls, of course that might be a bit on SE since the ARR content/level progression could certainly be improved and streamlined more to get them on par with the 2 addons
but also a bit on users like you without the patience for a slower (starting) game in this allrdy slow genre, but if it isn't for you it's not for you.

In other news Stormblood holds an impressive 90 on Metacritic now http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/final-fantasy-xiv-stormblood and is therefor the highest rated new FF title for over a decade (FFXII in 2006 not counting remasters and re-realeases ofc)

And now trial let's you to play until level 35 without time limitations, so... Vanilla game doesnt look good, but with some reshade tweaking it looks crisp, sharp and vibrant.

Can you give an example of a good preset? I haven't tried reshade on it yet.

I'm using one i made myself ages ago, i don't really like too much bloom or saturation so it's pretty lightweight just some dpx and contrast enhancments to boost the lightning a bit and get rid of the washed out look it also doesn't really have any performance impact.

I guess your pics are the top ones?
If yes: But you just pumped up the vibrance and saturation to high levels, where it even overbrightens a bit. Laughing

Yeah it's a sideffect of the DPX shader doesn't really bother me ingame but it looks a bit overblown in character editor i used in the screens (servers where down for maint) cause the games HDR is in full effect there.

Edit: nah you are right i forgot to turn down DPXSaturation again last time i tinkered with it should be on 3.0 not 4.8 Laughing

Final Fantasy XIV tops 10 million cumulative players
Quote:
Final Fantasy XIV has exceeded 10 million cumulative players worldwide, Square Enix announced.

The announcement comes following the release of the most recent expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood, which adds two new playable jobs, an increased level cap, and a storyline that takes players to new locations. Content patches following launch also added high-level raids, enhancements to player jobs, and a number of new features.

The 10 million player milestone coincides with the release of Patch 4.06 and the start of the annual “Moonfire Faire” seasonal event, during which players can take part in a new series of quests, such as facing off against Ultros. Players will be able to obtain event items as well, including a dyeable Faire version of a popular set of equipment.

Nah Russian and Brazilian steam users payed way less then everyone else in the world in the last 3 years because some bug in steam wallet payments kept the conversion rate for their currency from 3 years ago while their currency's worth dropped like a rock since then, stupid SE only noticed recently because Russians started reselling Mogstation Gift codes extremely cheap.
It was only Brazil and Russia and only on steam even in those country's Mogstation and PS4 users had to pay the correct price all this time.

Been playing this on and off. Bought it for 20 euro all expansions and the game with 30 days playtime so it's not bad.

So far Im around 55 doing the dragon questline. To me the MSQ had a ton of moments where I wanted to quit. Putting a cake 3 times with a few second cast bar on the same table just makes zero sense. Running all over the world getting to do 3 mobs every 20 mins and maybe a dungeon every few hours is pure shit for someone who just wants to do dungeons and combat. They should revisit the MSQ to clean up the useless quests. Should atleast be skippable and not have content locked behind 300+ quests.
