according to gamereactor.se there has been updates to the graphics with the morrowind expansion, i havnt found any info on this elsewhere, can anyone confirm? and do they carry over to the base?
Morrowind added a optional (Disabled by default.) system for inverse kinematics allowing your characters feet to more accurately rest upon terrain such as slopes and what not, used in several games with varying results (Fallout 3 had it, depending on angle it could look pretty silly.) but it's not really much of a visual improvement.
DirectX 9 and DirectX 10 wrapped to DirectX 11 should have been discontinued some time ago by now in favor of full D3D11 and the 64-bit client is probably the default over the previous 32-bit one.
LUA UI memory management is managed better as well without requiring 512 MB - 1 GB set aside for people using a large amount of add-on content but the UI is still fairly slow but no longer as RAM hungry though this doesn't impact visual quality.
Far as texture and 3D assets go it's still pretty varied, most armor and weapon sets are highly detailed but the environment is a bit hit & miss though the architecture is pretty OK for e.g towns.
Even main characters like Vivec come across as a bit poor though they did put in a bit of effort at least although it's not a huge leap above how the rest of the game looks.
Far as I know there's no new shader effects or graphical features as such, Morrowind is very well crafted though (Or well, Vvardenfell.) although a lot of interiors are locked or restricted compared to earlier designs but it's being expanded in future (Paid and free.) updates throughout this and the next year from how I understood it, up next should be a Clockwork themed (paid.) dungeon DLC though it won't require players to actually own Vvardenfell / Morrowind in order to be accessible.
As for visual quality in general for a MMO it's not too bad but the game engine is holding things back a bit despite the work put into it, lag and stutter is also a problem and the game uses quite a bit of RAM and VRAM if you tweak things a bit (IE faster loading high-detail textures.) or start using a lot of UI add-on scripts.
I could be missing something though but far as I know the only new engine feature mentioned is inverse kinematics with Morrowind / Vvardenfell mostly looking good due to being very well crafted though it does use a number of new assets for terrain, vegetation and architecture and a (Surprisingly few.) amount of new creatures and stuff like armor and weapon sets but they don't especially stand out compared to even the assets in the base game.
(The original armor sets mostly hold up to the DLC ones as does outfits and mounts or pets.)
EDIT: Despite the above it does still look pretty nice for a MMO game, might not have the same engine tech like some of the newest competing titles but it holds it's own though they could do with some better server infrastructure to lower things like load times when there's heavy player activity in the current zone or the still ongoing Cyordiil and Imperial City PvP/PvE mixed content zone.
Well, after explored about half of Morrowind so far, here's my two cents:
- First of all: no, it's not worth full price. The content is very similar to the rest of ESO. Unless you've completed the other three factions and are aching for more content, this is waaay overpriced
- It IS just about worth €20 (which is what I paid) however. The new class is interesting and Morrowind is a nice looking island. The quests are of the same high quality as those of the other regions too.
- BUT. It feels nothing like Morrowind. Morrowind created a beautiful atmosphere by combining dense swamps, winding roads, beautiful music and lots of ambient sound. The only thing remaining of this, is the music ... kind of.
On top of that, everything just feels smaller and more compact - Morrowind managed to make everything feel bigger and more epic. It shows what a proper treatment of a game can do because in ESO, it all feels so small.
To be honest though, I kind of expect this - but the lack of atmosphere I find less forgiving. For me this is 6,5/10.
If there was an entry in the dictionary for "meh", TESO's picture would be next to it.
"Because Meh"
It's actually quite good, but Morrowind is one of the best games ever so the two just don't work that well together since ESO is about bite-size regions.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Oh. Same. Would like to try a new MMO too, but couldn't find anything good & fun. FF XIV looks nice but seems to have a sub fee along with expansions.

Very nice. The upgrade includes Morrowind. Costs $15 in China for Morrowind + Summerset.
I doubt Morrowind is giftable.

Nope, I guess this is supposed to be a larger story/quest driven area.

No, it adds to your account if you don't already have it. I burned out on the game just before Morrowind was released, so I had skipped it. This may be enough to get me to pick up Sommerset though.
Huge fan of Elder Scrolls, never tried ESO, and right now it's free for a few days. Any recommendations for new player? Want to test if it's worth a buy. Last mmo I've played was like 10 years ago
