"Mods" are free. "Creators Club" content - i.e. paid mods - are not free.

These do not look to be mods anymore, but "3rd party DLCs" instead.

if the consumers accept this bullshit even if it's next to free mods this will be common practice in a year or two.
Gonna downvote all the bethesda games in my game library on steam nao

10K downvotes, 1000 up Sends a message i guess..
Seems like you purchase credits to buy mods.
I don't know. It would really depend on much of this money goes into Bethesda's pockets, and on many other things.. Do they decide how many credits your mod is worth, based on what? Will Bethesda offer support for mods on consoles (answering questions, troubleshooting)? If so it's easy to understand they have to make money on mods, since support does cost money for the company.
I can understand it for consoles, being very different from mods on PC where you can tweak the shit out of things yourself etc. On a console however, you are really dependent on the developer since you can't make much on your own in terms of fixing something.
Let's say a modder will be able to make a bit of money if they do some very popular mods. This is positive since you can have modding kind of like a part time job, that can have positive outcomes for both the customers, Bethesda and for the modder..
It's all very understandable, companies are greedy by nature, they see sites like TES Nexus making money from mods based on their IP's (grrrr!!!!!) and perhaps even thinking the modders are making big money due to donations (lol.. IRL in a month's time you are happy to get $5 in donations if you have 4 very popular mods in the top 5-20).

If this is truly "3rd party DLC" support, I would have no problem with this.
Of course, that means a lots of Bethesda resources invested (QA, localization, guaranteed compatibility after updates etc...).
On the other hand, if it is the same regular mods in disguise, that it is really bad.

didnt bethesda try the paid mod bullshit before and got shitstormed?
The problem is if they get a foothold with this other companies will try it as well and they will all milk it.
and after 1-2 years normal mods will be paid by default and the rich will get richer

Only takes one company to push it before the rest wants a piece of the pie.
AAA PC games were 50 bucks on release for the longest time until Activision started selling call of duty at 60 then other big studios followed.
50 dollar releases used to be part of my argument why pc gaming was better. Consoles were more expensive because they had to pay the MS fees.
Look where we are now because of Activision.

I wonder how this gets classified under Steam's rules? It could be a move to slip under the DLC rules. Remember that EA pulled their games off Steam after Valve said they couldn't sell DLC outside of Steam. Maybe part of this idea is Bethesda trying to pull the same trick. Although I can't imagine Valve would let that pass.

The biggest thing is they will force this on the console versions of their games, so the only way to get mods is pay for them, and as we have seen in the past they will pay for it without a thought for the bigger picture of what this will do down the line.
I personally don't see that many PC users falling for this, but seeing this again is not surprising, Bethesda always looking for them extra shekels for a near 6 year old game.

For me it's more: once they have their foot in the door... the fucking industry will gobble this up and make it even worse than what these twats came up with. It's already bad but give this in EA, Activision, Ubi's,... hands and see what atrocity they'll make a standard for the coming years.
But I'm just a random cynical twat so what do I know.

Raphael Colantonio leaves Arkane
Quote: | The last 18 years have been an amazing adventure - from starting Arkane in 1999, to making our first game, Arx Fatalis, to joining ZeniMax Media in 2010 and releasing the Dishonored series and Prey to critical acclaim - it is time for me to step out to spend some time with my son and reflect on what is important to me and my future.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of the best and brightest people in the industry, and I feel extremely lucky to have been part of this journey with everyone at Arkane.
I’ve lived many magical moments. I’ve also been through the hard times. But, I can say that joining ZeniMax took things to the next level and gave Arkane the opportunity to emerge as a world-class studio. ZenIMax enabled us to make the best games that we’ve ever made. And I know there is even more to come.
ZeniMax strongly believes in Arkane’s ability to make great games, and is committed to supporting the studio. My long-time friend and colleague, Harvey Smith, will oversee the team in Austin and I will be around for as long as necessary to ensure a smooth transition to the new management team in Lyon.
I wish the best to everyone at Arkane, Bethesda, and ZeniMax. Without a doubt I will miss everyone.
As I close, I’d like to thank the Arkane fans for their passion and support. I proudly join them as Arkane Studios' biggest champion, and I look forward to playing the extraordinary new games the studio is working on.

Dammit, that's no bueno. I imagine it's something more personal than just Arkane's games receiving a relatively mild reception (for many different reasons), here's hoping good ol' Harvey Smith will still be allowed to have full creative control over the team and continue making beloved immersive sims whilst exploring fresh ideas.
With Zenisupermax one never knows though, in the future we might end up having Dishonored Legends, Prey Shelter, Arx Remake VR and Dark Messiah Of Might And Magic Online instead

Probably a good thing, now that Zenimax own Arcane your only going to see safe bet, same same games from the studio. Better this guy start or join a smaller studio with more creative freedom.
Expecting another Dark Messiah or an Arx game from Zenimax's Arcane = kidding yourself.

I for one, will, because I played both those games and they're both amazing. I don't see how Arx Fatalis is clunkier than trash Bethesda throws out even these days for example. I played the game a few years ago and it still holds up. I've played through Dark Messiah several times and it's never boring, an ever engaging and immersive game, that's still at the top when it comes to first person melee combat.
As for Dark Messiah Online, the game had a multiplayer component which was almost as fun as Chivalry, lacked a solid playerbase though. Online as in MMO though? I guess that would be pretty sucky.
It sucks that Raphael left, but his reason is understandable.
