The petition is going very strong, at over 300K signatures right now in just 3 days. Yeah, it probably won't matter, but it can't hurt.

Also Netflix's phones have been ringing non-stop from the fanbase filing their complaints and even cancelling their accounts. Aside of filing the caller's complaint, which will be sent to the HQ, the representatives recommend that ones goes here:
https://help.netflix.com/en/titlerequest and enters "Sense8 Season 3" in all 3 fields. If you have 30 seconds of free time and you like the show, please do it!
The representatives say they've never seen this organized reaction. It makes sense they've never seen this, because everything else they cancelled was less popular than Sense8. And if we take them by surprise, then maybe, there's a tiny tiny chance of a mini-revival as a few concluding episodes or Netflix film.

This season was great and much better than season 1, but realy? They give us a cliffhanger and cancel season 3. This realy sucks netflix.

Yeah, people thought Netflix were better than a traditional network and we could always count on a Netflix Original receiving a final season to resolve cliffhangers, but not anymore! As I understand Marco Polo was also canceled on a cliffhanger.
They are no different than a traditional network anymore.

JMS has revealed on twitter many plot points regarding how the story would had continued, and perhaps even ended, in seasons 3-5:
 Spoiler: | - They get Wolfgang back by trading Whispers.
- Would Wolfgang and Kala go to Paris? "I believe in happy endings."
- Rajan implied to be killed because of the political stuff he was involved in. Regarding the fan theory that Rajan was involved in BPO, he shot it down.
- Sun would clear her name thanks to Detective Mun who would go after her brother, and would return to her life.
- Riley would become a revolutionary (he said "Che Guevara").
- 1 of the 8 would die. They never got to decide who, but JMS thought Will was a good candidate as he seems to be the type of man that would die for a cause.
- There's something special about this cluster, and all 8 (or 7, if 1 had already died I suppose) would give birth on a massive scale that would change the world forever for the better; heavily implied this means they re-birth all humans as sensates. Also implied the 1 of the 8 that dies sacrifices their life in order for this to happen. |
So far, that's what he has revealed, but he might say more.
I feel much better now, knowing how several story lines would resolve including what sounds like the end of the series.

It shot almost entirely on location in 16+ cities. All the money spent made it to the screen, unlike other shows. But you wouldn't know about it.

Now Netflix can fund "quality" sequels such as Iron Fist 2 (no comment), and 13 Reasons Why 2 (with the protagonist being dead, the sequel we all needed) instead of resolving a cliffhanger.

I haven't seen season 2 yet (and I don't know if I will, considering the news), but season 1 was pretty mediocre overall. Not bad, but not exactly great either. And $9 mil / episode of a mediocre show sounds like a pretty hefty ask, to be honest, so I can't say I blame Netflix for scrapping it. I'm pretty sure it's a lot more than they had to invest in (admittedly not great either) Iron Fist or (haven't seen it yet) 13 Reasons. I do agree, however, that Sense8's production values were through the roof - it was a well shot show, with very diverse sets.

Season 2's reception was very good. Costs could be brought down significantly to perhaps even lower than season 1's level (which cost $4.5M/episode) - anyone who has seen the last episode knows exactly what plot reasons there are that would make that possible - Netflix just didn't see the point as the show would never become the next 13 Reasons Why and they have made it their mission from now and on to search the next surprise hit as they explained one day before the cancellation;

Fans were even happy to have just a 2-hour special that would resolve the cliffhanger; it would require a tiny amount of money compared to the $100something M a 12-hour season costs. Netflix just didn't see any potential in it anymore.
So no show is safe anymore. Had the writers known that, they wouldn't end the season with a cliffhanger, because it was always understood that Netflix had an implicit agreement with both content creators and subscribers that a Netflix Original would always get a conclusion.
Not anymore.

He is basically saying "We make too many safe shows, so of course they become hits. We should shoot for the stars and that way, sure, we will have to cancel many of the shows that don't turn out to be good, but perhaps we'll also discover the next 13 Reasons Why."
He's spinning the many cancellations that are to come into a Good Thing(TM) for their subscribers (it's not), while also delivering the truth about what they really want (cheap shows, that become huge hits).

If anything, it's the bloody hollywood that should be taking more risks these days, whereas Netflix should just keep doing what they do and focus on their quality productions instead of launching supposedly bizarre experiments like the CEO mentioned. Or well, they could still do both if they had a solid management plan
