Quote:
day, Romania-based developer Sand Sailor Studios and publisher Square Enix announced that their atmospheric puzzle game, Black The Fall, is set to launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on July 11, 2017.

Black The Fall is a game that takes place after decades of toil, where an old machinist (who you play as) plots his escape from the oppressive grasp of the Communist regime. Along the way through hidden passages, shadow, and grief, the old machinist will befriend an abandoned little robot, and together, the two will try and escape the bleak and deadly world they find themselves in.

Black The Fall was born back in 2014, as an art project and as a black and white stealth-platformer. The game’s concept came as a way to illustrate and express rebellion against the mechanisms of a heavily corrupted system, rooted in decades of communism that Romania endured.

In the month to follow, the game changed to a puzzle game as it was a better way to illustrate what it means to cope with a restrictive regime. Cristian Diaconescu, Creative Director at Sand Sailor Studio continues:
“We lived in times where there was no freedom of speech, intellectuals were thrown in prisons and tortured, food was subject to rationing, there was no access to contraception. Access to western culture was minimal. It sounds Orwellian, but unfortunately it happened in real life in most of communist countries. And the worst part is that it’s still happening in some parts of the world. Also, as we explored this path we realized that the oppressive mechanics apply to the western world today, where a lot of people feel trapped in conforming with a system they don’t believe in. With Black the Fall, we are offering an alternative course of action, where anyone has the chance to outsmart the system and escape it.”

In collaboration with Square Enix Collective(https://collective.square-enix.com/projects/20/black-the-fall) , Black The Fall hit Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/503519380/black-the-fall) in 2015, successfully raising £28,485. Now, the game is finally poised to release.

i dont like how it seems to have so many meshes that are untextured? i guess its supposed to look artistic, but i think it comes off as sloppy and uninteresting.

might buy because of the anti-commie "propaganda" though Wink

Downloaded and tried it, controls are very simplified and you cannot remap them as far as I could tell. It does have a certain charm though.

Thought this game was about anti-communism Laughing

It's an enjoyable game, heavily inspired by Limbo and especially Inside in the minimalistic visual style and gameplay. It does its own thing however in terms of puzzles, including a robo-dog buddy and some haunting atmosphere. It's a stylized dystopian representation of the Romanian Revolution from the eyes of a common citizen, but it is also a broad criticism of totalitarian regimes in general.

There are some minor issues though, since the platforming feels rough around the edges, there are some wild scripts here and there and the animations aren't anywhere as good as the aforementioned titles, but nothing game-breaking. It's on the very short side as well (it took me only two hours to complete it), but an isoride is recommended in my opinion.

Yeah exactly, it's in line with the standards. It could require a little more if one gets stuck in a puzzle or two, but in general those aren't complex since they're only environmental (although sometimes they're...bizarre in terms of physics Very Happy)

Lovely little game. Proud that was made by fellow romanians, they did great. Awesome references to communism and Ceausescu, even his wife. Characters also speak romanian and the words on buildings are flipped.
