A proper comic book flick, even if some of the original satire found in the 2000AD comics is lost. Urban was stoic and badass, Thirlby was vulnerable and relatable until she "awakens" which makes her also badass... What a proper rendition! I feel really bad, being the nerd that I am, that I did not seen it at the cinema... it was a big flop, which is a shame seeing the quality put on film here.
Totally recommendable, and if you can watch it in 3D, do it. It's real, filmed with RED cameras and all. Slo-mo scenes are something else. |
+1. Love Dredd, especially in 3D. Seen it twice

the great wall 2/10, so bad, boring too, didn't make it all the way through... No surprises it scored a healthy 6 with the drooling derps at imdb.

Logan - 8/10
Messy third act aside, this was a blast and it affected me a lot more than I expected.

Sarcasm? Because I'm the type of person that can actually stand Sandler movies (which is rare in itself), and even I couldn't sit through this one. Extremely unfunny.

New alien 4/10 ..the 4 is for cgi effects. I thought the film was boring and predictable. They just can't get the atmosphere of the old films

Logan...
A real case of a film not being long enough for its subject matter. This wasn't an action driven film, but rather a tragic character driven finale... It was a looonnnggg film, but one that could easily have been another 30+ minutes longer, and I would have appreciated it being so for a film such as this. Spoiler: | I'd have liked to have seen a stronger bond form between logan and the girl for starters, to make the ending stronger, and I'd have liked to have seen a better intro for the wolverine clone who felt a little random in the film I thought. I enjoyed the subtlety of Logan's condition and the fate of the xmen, but part of me would have liked to have seen that expanded on.
Sadly... I just didn't feel the impact of their deaths as much as I wanted - anyone in the same boat? I really wanted it to be a tear jerker, but the film just didn't give me enough somehow, especially around chucks death |
All in all, a solid film. I enjoyed it, but it's hard for me to rank it in the overall franchise given what a massive tonal shift it was.

I know that feel Chav.
The movie didn't grip me at all though.
It was stupid decisions after stupid decisions. And a few things didn't feel as natural as they thought they did when making the movie.

Logan (2017)
~7.5+ (in general) ~8 (vs other xmen shite) /10
It was really good compared to other x men films. Disappointing antagonists though...and it should have been longer indeed..And I kept feeling I didn't have enough information about how the world turned into this one (compared to previous x xen films)

Alien Covenant: 8/10, I avoided all the trailers and teasers and went in expecting a Fox pew pew retarded movie.. so it surprised me actually and quite a bit better than Prometheus.
- Character's are excellent this time around.
- Plot and motives are clear, not a mess of confusing plot holes this time.
- Add's to the universe, wasn't typical safe scene by scene reboot like a lot of these big franchises have been.
- Visually stunning.. check.
Spoiler: |
Fassbender / Walter & David = So damn good, i was enthralled with these char's scenes.
The 'religious' captain = Feels the crew don't trust him, the religious angle was gold.. "have faith" while i make retarded decisions.
Tenessee = Just wants to get to his wife 2500x colonists be damned
The suspense worked for me some in this film, particularly the 2nd third of the film. My complaints (-2 points) would be that the action scenes + xeno were probably the weakest parts of the film ?? The original movies always handled these sequences with subtlety or a horror/slasher movie.. I could have gone without any drawn out action sequences to be honest.

Alien continued..
Perusing some other's reviews now, I can see this one's getting tons of hate and I guess it would depend what your expecting from the film > i really expected 0's here.
Don't read spoiler if you haven't seen it and are an Alien fan.
Spoiler: |
See I'm struggling to decide whether the inclusion of Alien universe is good or not in this film. Like I'm really digging the whole Rogue AI disillusioned with humanity and in this he's become god.. I like that's there is an origin story here for Alien in the perfect predator etc.
..but then in this movie the best parts are David's motivations and he is scarier than any Alien. The Xeno takes a backseat and they own like 5 of them fairly effortlessly thoughout the film too.
I like those subtleties to the fodder characters, captain, tenessee etc. while watching i was thinking how it could be pushed further. That chick that should have quarantined those guys it was intentionally hard to watch her falling over 15 times with that shotgun to make you uncomfortable.

Alien: Covenant 5/10
Spoiler: | Lets send a shit across the universe and man it with total idiots.
Why the fuck would you man a multibillion ship with 2000 embryo with a crew that just walks out on a totally unknown planet like this? "Hey, you go ahead ill just stay back here"..
"brb while I take a piss on my own" etc etc..
Lets land on the water and exit the ship looking straight forward...ive stepped on beaches on earth so I expect this one to be exactly the same. I seriously doubt there is any difference here at the other end of universe" etc etc..
