alan wake did not try to be deep. whaaat?
It knew what it wanted to be from the beginning to end.
A cliche thriller. Just like Mp1 and Mp2 knew what they wanted to be from the beginning.
If you had no idea about max payne or its roots... you'd think max payne tried to be deep w/ the comic cover voice overs and shit.

oh leave it alone, it was an entertaining story with a cool approach to its narrative.. it went a little overboard with it, but i think thats what they intended to do - a pulpy novel style scenario, full of over the top, contrived sequences. By at least acknowledging them, its more about poking fun at how most horror novels (and movies) are written... the game essentially turned them into law - guidelines that must be adhered to, so that he could write his way out the other side...
yeah.. i really liked it and its approach. was a solid, fun game. Yeah the shooting mechanics were a bit of an afterthought, but i think remedy has shown (like they did with quantum break) that while their gameplay mechanics are still functional and work well, they feel they get in the way of their main focus which is characters, story and atmosphere.
how far theyve come from max payne, which was definitely gameplay-focused, eh  |

The game was definitely one of their best ones. I still havent played Quantum Break but I don't think it's is good as AW was. I have to admit that I was very sceptical about AW due to Xbox exclusive and the fuckups around 'Intel Dual Core Technology demo' but the game turn out to be very very good. The ambient was very solid regardless of some fustraiting fighting scenes.

I figured as much, it really didn't make sense for this to be perminant... It's just music ffs.. Sure it's important, but nothing that a suitable replacement can't be found for if relicensing is not possible.

The remaster doesn't feel necessary on PC, though I imagine it could make some sense if they properly update their Northlight tech and add bells and whistles to it. They'll probably use the remustard as a means to garner the attention of younger consoleros, right before pushing the sequel that's been hinted at over the past few years - AWE's ending, various allusions, Sweeneyian rumours, etc.
I enjoyed Alan Wake (but only on Nightmare mode) so another entry would make me a happy panda, assuming that we'll get Alan Wake and not Alan Woke.

Considering Alan Wake has one of the worst lip sync/facial performances ever made in a modern video game, if they redo that, that would be worth the remaster alone. Considering it's a story heavy single player game. But I'm not holding my breath because that would take quite a bit of work, maybe even brand new performances recorded.

I absolutely loved the mind fuckery vibe of the story and locales combined with the narration in Alan Wake. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but that game just did it for me. Hopefully they do it justice on the remaster.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I just hate that they did not really end the story in a conclusive manner, including DLCs that sort of side-stepped the expected ending? Same as with Control. Remedy can't seem to accept having to properly end a story.
