Normally the network has a shared folder. But with this wireless network the laptop can't see the shared folder.
Anyone know how I can get the files across?

What do you mean by "the network has a shared folder"? I guess you are talking about the Microsoft Network? In that case, first make sure that no ports are blocked and that Netbios isn't turned off on one of the machines. You can also directly connect to the other pc with \\IP-Adress\c$ or any other drive letter of the traget pc. You have to login with an administrative account though or it won't work. Also, are both pc's in the same subnet?
Edit:
Turn off simple file sharing on both pc's as well!

I'll try that. No simple file sharing on either the desktop or laptop.
On my network at home (I'm setting up this wireless connection for a friend) I have a shared folder. Whatever is in that shared folder can be accessed by all my machines on my network. But with this wireless network I have a shared folder on the desktop pc, but it can't be accessed by the laptop.

maybe sharing is turned off?
right click on folder, go to sharing and security settings ....

Actually, now that I think of it, I had the exact same problem on my network at home after I moved.
I couldn't solve the problem, and then BAM ... one day they were all of a sudden in the 'my network places' folder.
I was able to share folders on the network before I moved, then not after I moved (I stopped using my router and switched to a roommates). Then we had some technical issues with our internet service and once they were resolved it worked for no apparent reason.
That gives me an idea -- Perhaps it is a router problem? I know a lot of dicking around went on with our router when we started having problems, and I'm sure it got reset. Maybe that is why mine works now ...

I didnt saw you writing about a router so, check these settings;
does both machines have the same ip range.
like 192.168.0.* or 192.168.1.* or 192.168.100.*
do they both have the same networkgroup name?

Both in the same range and both with the default netgroup name.

Remove NetBIOS and just use NetBEUI

Are you using any software firewall such as Norton or Mcafee? If so, you have to configure it to let the network traffic through.
