Around this time every year, publishers beginning sending out invites to their E3 press conferences and other events. Bethesda is once again joining the party, with a showcase planned for June 11th in downtown Los Angeles.
While this year’s invite included the expected request for an RSVP, it also included a curious picture. Within, the artist has drawn homages to several familiar Bethesda-produced series, including Doom, Fallout, Dishonored, Elder Scrolls, Quake, and Prey. In addition, you can see that two areas of “Bethesdaland” remained under construction, suggesting that we may be hearing about some new projects on that Sunday event.
Alternately, it’s certainly possible that the two unidentifiable areas are simply artistic license, to illustrate Bethesda’s nebulous future plans. To be honest, that seems less likely.
Make up your own mind; check out the full invite image below.
The full retards of Bethesda / Zenimax strike again:
Team forced to change title of game thanks to Zenimax/Bethesda
Quote:
Oh yea that...so we didn’t want to do this but we had to change our game name from Prey for the Gods to Praey for the Gods. Thankfully we get to keep the logo but we will spell it “Praey for the Gods”. Honestly, we could make this entire newsletter about our thoughts on this. Trademark law is what we were dealing with and we aren’t under any NDA so we can state the opposition in this situation, Bethesda/Zenimax.
We could’ve fought this and we did think about it for quite a while. Something like a trademark opposition can be long and depending on how far someone wants to fight it can be very expensive. We didn’t want to spend our precious Kickstarter funds, nor did we want to have to ask for additional funds to fight this in court. Using backer money towards something that doesn’t go towards the development or backer rewards felt horrible to us. Even if we did win we’d have to spend a solid chunk of our funds and in our opinion it wasn’t worth it.
The truth is we initially thought about naming the game Præy for the Gods prior to our initial trailer. The logo has both the woman praying against the duality of prey, and thankfully we get to continue to use that. We figured people would have a hard time trying to type in the æ symbol in search engines etc. This was back in 2015 when we posted a trailer on Facebook and Twitter with had no idea if 100 or even 1000 people would watch the trailer. We were applying for both Prey for the Gods, and Præy for the Gods trademarks shortly after as we realized the extent of what we were making. Unfortunately, Zenimax chose to oppose our mark, as they felt both were too similar to their mark “Prey” which they purchased from Id Software, in 2009. While we disagree with their opposition we were able to come to an agreement.
It was something that kept me up many nights, and no doubt shifted our focus from our game frequently. Worrying about the outcome if we went to trial, if we’d lose our fans or walk away from the mark and still potentially get sued for millions on trademark infringement. This is really something no starting company should have to deal with let alone a tiny team of 3. So the fact that we came out the other end intact still developing the game was a win. One that will no doubt shape our company
Assuming that's the case, you'd think one must be the next Elder Scrolls. Although that said, the picture makes it seem like the sections of the park are more franchise related rather than game specific, in which case TES already has a representation. Some new Wolfenstein game maybe? Can't see that on the map.
Probaly the new Wolfenstein. They already teased it at last year's E3, and 2018 fits the timeline: Wolfie: TNO - 2014, DOOM - 2016, Wolfie: The New Colossus(if that's the final title) - 2018.
"I think Call of Duty resonates because it's believable and relatable," Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey says.
Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty
Bethesda Game Studios is hiring for a "AAA freemium game" It'll be "bleeding-edge" too, according to the job listing
Quote:
Bethesda Game Studios Montreal is working on a "bleeding-edge AAA freemium game", according to a new job listing on the Zenimax website. The studio is hoping to recruit a Game Performance Manager who will "envision, evolve, and operate monetization strategies" – which basically means Bethesda is working on a new free-to-play with some form of microtransaction model.
The successful applicant will "work with the game design team on monetization design, strategy and execution", among other responsibilities. The job listing doesn't specify what type of game it will be, nor which platforms it will launch on.
What we do know, is that Bethesda is working on three "big" projects which have yet to be announced. Todd Howard said as much at DICE earlier this year, revealing only that they'll all be "different than anything we've done before, while also being a Bethesda-style game."
Still, it's tempting to speculate. Will Bethesda take the freemium approach with a traditional, big-budget blockbuster title, or are we getting something more along the lines of Fallout Shelter? We may very well hear more at E3 next week, fingers crossed.
A 4Chan user is claiming to know details about Bethesda’s upcoming press conference including the announcement of a brand new IP and a Skyrim VR adaptation.
The poster, going by the moniker “Bethesda Leaks” alleges that the studio will be unveiling a brand new game called Starfield during their E3 press conference next week, but it doesn’t sound like that title will have VR support. The poster also claims that the already confirmed Fallout VR will be joined by another immersive remake, this time for Skyrim.
The full post reads:
Quote:
I’m a leaker at Bethesda and I wanted to layout their plans for the future for you guys and give you some pre E3 leaks. Firstly i’m speaking only about Bethesda game studios here not the publisher.
There will be a few announcements at E3 one is a new major title from Bethesda themselves as well.
The two Major announcements are Fallout 4 VR and Starfield.
They are working on Skyrim VR as well but they aren’t sure if they are going to show it yet since they don’t want to take the light away from Fallout 4 VR or Starfield.
Onto Starfield. The game has actually been in conceptual stages since around Fallout 3’s release. It went into pre production officially very low tier pre production after Skyrims Release. After Fallout 4’s release it went into full pre production and after all the DLC was out they sped into full development.
The game is going to be a sci fi open world RPG in typical bethesda first person fashion. Its going to feature 5-10 races there’s still some debate on what should and shouldn’t go in and takes place in the Fallout universe just so far in the future and far away from earth that it’ll only be mentioned in hints. This is part of an ongoing planned interconnected universe of every Bethesda franchise. They gave hints of this by implying the Brotherhood of Steel created nirnroot in Fallout 4. They’re getting a little wacky with the lore and using “Elder Scrolls time wounds” to justify lore inconsistencies.
Basically Fallout is the beginning of the timeline, Starfield is the middle, and Elder Scrolls is Far Future.
The game will feature space travel and hub worlds as well as RNG worlds. Its meant to be a test into more sandboxy/minecraft ish AAA thing but with Bethesda gameplay and still actual designed worlds/quests/etc.
They have another Fantasy game of a famous franchise in the works. Game of Thrones and preproduction Elder Scrolls VI and conceptual for Elder Scrols VII which is Todds Magnum Opus.
There has been no corroboration to these claims from anyone at Bethesda, which is to be expected regardless of how true these leaks may or may not be.
The idea that Bethesda might be bringing Skyrim into VR is significant. The excitement for Fallout 4 VR is already massive and The Elder Scrolls series is just as beloved if not even slightly more popular for traditional gamers. However, take this post with a massive grain of salt. A random 4Chan poster isn’t exactly the most credible source, but the leak is too tantalizing to not at least hope it could be true.
But even if it is true, Bethesda may not mention Skyrim VR at all during E3 and save it for a future announcement. We likely won’t know for sure if this is real any sooner than we would have before this leak if that were the case. However, if they do announce Starfield it may be time to set hype levels to maximum for the other information in the post.
Probaly the new Wolfenstein. They already teased it at last year's E3, and 2018 fits the timeline: Wolfie: TNO - 2014, DOOM - 2016, Wolfie: The New Colossus(if that's the final title) - 2018.
My bet would be on that one as well, though there's also The Evil Within 2 which is another possible candidate (already hinted a while back). Not sure about the professional leaker's spying manifesto, but hell I'd be curious to see Beth's take on the sci-fi genre. I mean it can't possibly be worse than what we got recently!...or not, it is wise to never underestimate Beth's ability to fuck things up
Basically Fallout is the beginning of the timeline, Starfield is the middle, and Elder Scrolls is Far Future.
That is so completely retarded that it actually wouldn't surprise me if it were true.
Well the Elder Scrolls lore (The really weird one outside of the actual games.) kinda works for this although how much of the C0Da thing (And debates and role-playing on the forums.) that actually is canon is unclear, though then again the entire thing with that is how vague and unclear some of that lore actually is.
(Morrowind has the construction kit being a piece of the canon for example, only very vaguely hinted at in the in-game books though.)
I kinda doubt that 4Chan leak info but eh, TES being set in the far future has come up a couple of times as I remember so with Fallout taking place a couple of hundred years after the apocalypse it would fit if Bethesda intended to be crazy enough to merge the two games universes together even if you're unlikely to have Khajiit power armor and super mutant Argonian anytime soon.
("Power armor is for pussies." was it? )
EDIT: The old Redguard sword techniques also had some interesting uses, it's not outright stated as I remember but they did basically split atoms during the final battle against some old elven race back on their own homeland of Yokuda which ended just about as well as expected for both sides leaving the land complete destroyed and them eventually leaving it and ending up on Tamriel heh.
Most of that zany lore stuff comes from Kirkbride's shroom-addled brain and since he hasn't been an employee for decades now, it hardly matters. And Bethesda in general don't care about established canon if it's inconvenient for them, for example Cyrodiil turning from a jungle to a temperate forest for Oblivion.
That 4chan leak is complete bullshit and Starfield's a completely new IP, unrelated to that freemium nonsense that's most likely entirely Bethesda Montreal's doing.
Content will be made by Bethesda Game Studios and outside developers, including the best of the community

Can I become a Creator?
Whether you are a professional developer, artist, or modder; you can apply to be a Creator here. Be ready to share work you’ve already done as part of your application.
If I’m accepted to be a Creator, what can I create and what is the dev process?
Creators are required to submit documentation pitches which go through an approval process. All content must be new and original. Once a concept is approved, a development schedule with Alpha, Beta and Release milestones is created. Creations go through our full development pipeline, which Creators participate in. Bethesda Game Studios developers work with Creators to iterate and polish their work along with full QA cycles. The content is fully localized, as well. This ensures compatibility with the original game, official add-ons and achievements.
Are Creators Paid For Their Work?
Yes. Just like our own game developers, Creators are paid for their work and start receiving payment as soon as their proposal is accepted and through development milestones.
Is Creation Club paid mods?
No. Mods will remain a free and open system where anyone can create and share what they’d like. Also, we won’t allow any existing mods to be retrofitted into Creation Club, it must all be original content. Most of the Creation Club content is created internally, some with external partners who have worked on our games, and some by external Creators. All the content is approved, curated, and taken through the full internal dev cycle; including localization, polishing, and testing. This also guarantees that all content works together. We’ve looked at many ways to do “paid mods”, and the problems outweigh the benefits. We’ve encountered many of those issues before. But, there’s a constant demand from our fans to add more official high quality content to our games, and while we are able to create a lot of it, we think many in our community have the talent to work directly with us and create some amazing new things.

The last time Bethesda tried Pay for Mods it went fairly terribly, the program was launched and then cancelled within days
My edit: The FAQ says its not paid mods, that was my editorializing. Its still very much paid mods.
I wonder how tiny the creator's cut is? Given the whole approval process, I am guessing the lion's share of the money is going to Bethesda. I'd guess the creator would be lucky to see 10-15%.
That's a good point, I mean Bethesda would definitively take a big part of the money but it remains to see just how much and how this takes off, Beth certainly seems to think this could become a thing if they're investing more into it rather than the initial idea via Steam Workshop (And using their own platform they don't have to involve Valve.) but I'm a bit skeptical.
Bethesda being involved more directly should at least lead to higher quality and better tested content this time from a smaller part of the modding community and you can't take existing content and re-release it as paid content either.
EDIT: Nexus also has a way to allow donations as a optional step to support modders but I don't know how well that has actually worked, I do know it gets a bit annoying with every file having a "Consider donating!" prompt before the actual download but eh, it's not a big deal.
Not sure if even bigger projects make all that much from these donations, would expect them to get a bit at least but probably not all that much.

I think it's notable that they mentioned you'd be paid "just like their own developers". Consider what the payment for a Bethesda developer working on one of their DLCs would be. They'd be earning a straight salary, and at best would probably make a few grand off a DLC that Bethesda probably earn millions from. That's some tiny fraction of a percent. There's no way they are going to give "creators" a sizable cut of paid mods.
JBeckman wrote:

Right there they regained a 30% chunk of the money back into their own pockets.

Donations for most modders would be peanuts. I remember when the original paid mod shitstorm happened some well known Skyrim mod author said his entire donations over a period of a couple of years was a few dollars. There have been a few people that have made some short-term money on Patreon (like that Cities Skylines guy), but typically if they are any good then they end up getting a real job in the industry before long. Long term modders tend to make a pittance, if anything, and it's really other people that directly profit, like Youtube streamers doing mod showcases.
Wait so they're saying the mods are free? Or they're saying mods created and uploaded the traditional way will remain free, but Creator's won't be? Because looking at the process of curating mods, having to look through applications, put them through the pipeline, and go through QA cycles, that's a lot of money sinking into a system that makes no income, should the mods be free. Not to mention they are paying these Creators? These mods have to be able to make money on their own.
This system is essentially outsourcing productions of DLCs to "modders". Therefore allowing the actual employee's of Bethesda to work on either official DLCs or move on to the next game. I mean that's fine given I was disappointed at the lack of DLCs for Skyrim and FO4. But I wanted DLCs for my RPG that is CANON, not modder's fan fics.
Either way, this whole thing doesn't make sense to me from a consumer's perspective. What exactly do I get out of this? I know Beth will have the potential to make more money out of 1 game, but I wouldn't give a fuck about that. So if I pay, do I really get high quality mods? Are Beth going to do my load orders? Are they going to make sure there's all the compatibility patch I need for all those 100 mods I have installed? Surely not, so no way I'm paying more than 1 dollar for something that is likely to impede my ability to freely mod my game.
If mods were free, I can just download and try them out, experiment with it, tweak it a bit, make it work with my game and I'll put in the work needed to make sure my own collections work and my game isn't crashing because of the mods. But if I'm paying, I'm expecting some level of customer support. That's the problem with paid mods, I'm not against modders getting paid for doing great work. I'm against mixing the expectations of paid professional content with free voluntary hobbyist work.
