Got in the beta finally. First impressions after an hour.
First thing I noticed was the movement. It feels like playing vq3 at low fps with more air control (fps effected physics in q3 for those not in the know). Very simplified and dull as someone who loved strafe jumping after spending ages mastering it. You can go faster with strafe manipulation but it's like they've compressed the minimum and maximum speed you can get from a jump to accommodate newbies. Fair enough but not for me.
Not sure if it was my less then stellar internet or the 50+ping I had but the weapons all had this slight annoying delay. Shooting a rocket isn't instant it takes a tic for it to come out. I'd expect some kind of interpolation to at least make the client side rocket instant fire but it's beta and that kinda stuff can be fixed. q3 wasn't great above 50ping either so just hope they improve that.
The weapons do feel pretty chunky and good to use for the most part. Railgun looks super ugly imo. Nailgun is basically useless. The rest seems fine. MA Rocket gibs and high accuracy lg are satisfying as ever.
Last is the abilities make duel mode really stupid. I mean one guy has a translocater from ut and another drops bombs and another heals etc... Duels were all about item and map control but that's thrown out the window when you spawn with different items.
Infact the abilities as a whole seem just obnoxious and interfere with the flow of the game. Only times I ever saw it used was as a panic button to drop a bomb or raise a shield up or some gimmicky shit.
One last thing is the UI is kinda bad. Massive arrows appear above everyone and even through walls sometimes. Why, are ppl legit blind nowdays? Heaps of garbage cluttering the screen during kill is annoying too (think you can turn off though).
The icons for stuff on the ground need a do over too.
OVERALL though it's much better then my pessimistic self expected. Not sure if I'd play it much solo though. TDM or CTF with friends could be pretty fun.
I'd upload the games I had but its NDA. Had high frag counts usually top of team but without knowing armor locations I died almost every second kill from a trade
Also where the fuck is rocket arena? Most noob friendly and instant action mode mia?

Zenimax is involved, so no wonder. As that is one shitty company.
Still wonder why they bother with a NDA, as most people interested probably already played the game anways.

edit: Weapon feel looks kinda weird but not too bad. Total Biscuit will love this game. Fisheye fov out of the box
edit2: Also - did quake 3 had damage numbers popping out of enemies ?
edit3: weapon design look more scifi rather than Quakeish
edit4: NOPE!!!!!!! There are random loot chests and 3 types of currency. bail out

I dislike design, skins, abilities, 3 types of currencies and random loot chests. Its not totally different

It's not slow. It's not as fast as QL, but it's faster than any fps game on today's market. Except Reflex Arena, that game still shits on QC in terms of speed.
