Good game indeed, feels more crpgish than Conquistador which is another plus as far as I'm concerned. The setting is interesting and the combat is solid with lots of abilities to use/unlock and various approaches. The interface/UI could use some improvements and especially the camera would definitely benefit from a less zoomed perspective (the implementation of looting also can come off as tedious) , but the fun factor is there which is important.

I started playing as the ultimate evil Viking, executing practically every single person who crosses my path instead of being diplomatic. I don't know the dramatic extent of the choice&consequence system yet, but so far so good Laughing Very Happy

Ya gotta say I really love it too, but then again I also loved Expeditions: Conquistador. Smile
Conquistador, as said before, was different in terms of gameplay. It was more Homm/rpg style in my book, but this is more like a pure party based rpg.
Both work though. Very Happy

Oh and they really put some effort in to the soundtrack, very atmospheric and....vikingly(?). Laughing

Seeing all the praise, went I tried the game. Good writing, they seem to have done their research about the cultures as well. It feels like what an RPG should be like. However I don't like the combat one bit. Too RNG for me. The performance also wasn't good either, and it is buggy. I can see why those that enjoy the combat will praise this game. But I really couldn't stomach it after a few hours.

Too bad, because I do liked the RPG side of it.

The combat is cheap as hell too.

You can't set your party formation, so you're at the mercy of random path-finding blob that is your group when combat triggers as to who's where. You're also completely FUCKED if your own character isn't a tank, because guess who's going to be front and center when the fight kicks off? That's right.

Another thing that more or less killed it for me was the scripted nature of whether you or the enemy gets to go first. There's a point not too far into the game where you chase a group of bandits to recover something. Despite seeing them all circled up in clearing surrounded by trees your entire party is forced to go into the center of the ambush, and eat 3+ arrows the first fucking turn. Tough titty, you were "ambushed".

Despite some great elements when it comes to stats/story/music, the combat is utter fucking crap - which more or less drags the rest of the game down with it.

That's nice, because 2 or 3 of my characters usually go down before I even get a chance to act. Which wouldn't happen if I could approach from the direction I'd like to, and get the first volley off (which I should be able to based on an initiative check, not stupid fucking scripting).

Make sure you to check your difficulty setting if you are playing on v 1.0. Very Happy

They reverted back to v 1.01 since the hotfix fucked some of the mainquests, like some gray screens at certain places where you can't get out of unless you use a console command.

Don't like the combat, HATE the looting. Plus bugs, everywhere. Shame, like the premise but in its current state it's more of a drag than a fun game.

Yeah same here, I was so close to buying this, but I will wait until/if the bugs are sorted out.

There are definitely some problems, encountered my first completely random crash followed by another one whilst looking at the inventory, along with my character adopting the frozen jesus posture during combat afterwards and a quest that didn't want to trigger itself. It seems that the QA department decided to spend time feasting with mead instead, a common habit these days. Razz

I do like the game quite a lot, despite annoyances such as not being able to choose a formation or initiate fights yourself (as for the silly looting, I'm just trying to ignore it for the most part), but putting it on hold and waiting is a wise decision.

Thankfully, it seems that things are moving, there's a new huge beta patch* available:

*therefore, it earns the [Early Access] tag prize!

When/how will I be able to get her to cure injuries? One of my character is injured, I'm not allowed to move around and do a few quests on my own, but I cannot speak to the witch. I see one NPC hanging at her hut, but I cannot interact with that person.

Edit: For anyone else curious -
I left town, went to a camp, came back to town, she was now at her hut next to the other npc.

Yes I certainly am, one more reason I am holding off buying it. I like to take my time in games, do a bit of pillaging, beat up a few sheep that sort of thing. Timers in games, especially ones like this are a big no no

The timer is not an issue, it gives you plenty of time(even too much) to do everything you want to do.
Towards the end you'll just end up wasting time travelling back and forth the camps and cities and building your homestead, since you got no more quests left.

Bigger issue is the quest bugs and there are a few. Smile
Right now, I can't finish the game since I'm waiting for 1.02 patch to fix Nefja's sidequest.

There was still that annoying bug that doesn't end the enemy's turn and everyone just stands there...had to restart the last fight because of that. Embarassed

But still the game was great, imo. Got a good ending too, just failed to stop christianity since I couldn't bring myself to kill priests. Laughing

One could think you were talking about "The Great Whale Road", dont ending the enemy turn bugs, included. Must be a viking thing. Very Happy
