Yup, judging from the interwebs this really doesn't promise anything good...another glorious franchise gone to the dogs. Crying or Very sad

I haven't gotten around trying the ghetto yarr yet, but considering the amount of technical issues and bugs that currently plague the game (along with the questionable presentation and consolized interface), a wise idea* is probably to just wait and see if there will be some miracle patching going on, the usual hopeless drill.
*although, an even wiser idea would be to just pretend that this thing doesn't exist

I remember writing a review for the first game and really hating it - the world felt so dead, the dialogue was poorly written, the interface was atrocious, the puzzles were far from inspiring - yet it got two sequels. Go figure Laughing .

I actually remember that first Syberia was pretty awesome, at least for the times. Maybe just nostalgic.

I'm fond of both the games, with Syberia 1 being the more "mysterious" one and perhaps more captivating to me (for story-related reasons). Though to be honest, they're almost like a single entity and for me they complete each other forming an amazing journey. Smile

They didn't even mention it in the changelog, guess it was too much of a shame to admit the failure Cool Face Laughing

Greetings men, so far this game is interesting. The problem I have is that the frames start from 75 fps and down to 37 fps. All settings maxed out and using codex release. I wish it didnt fluctuate like that. Hopefully someone can share their experience.

Wot I Don’t Think: Syberia 3

Quote:
There is a group of people who are going to buy Syberia 3 [official site], and they are going to love Syberia 3, no matter what it’s like. If the released game were just a black screen from which only terrifying abuse were endlessly screamed, they would love it. If playing it caused them to develop sores all over their bodies, grow pustules that bubbled and burned, and wretched sickness and diarrhoea bugs afflict them and all their loved ones, they would refuse to hear a word said against it. If the game came to the homes of their families and stole all their valuables, and then sold those valuables and used the proceeds to take out an advertising campaign in which they stated, “Everyone who loves Syberia 3 is a paedophile”, these people would still love Syberia 3, and send threatening messages to anyone who disagreed.

[...]

And yeah, sorry, no. Playing this game is actively horrible. A message appears when it loads stating, “The game is more enjoyable if you play using a controller”. Those are never words you want to read when starting a point-and-click adventure, because it means one thing only: something went really wrong.

Something went really wrong. This is, somehow in 2017, a third-person game with tank controls. Kate must be rotated and pointed forward before moving, like no one has ever wanted in any game in all of history. Then, in order to really create that nostalgic feel of the early 2000s, the camera cuts and jumps about as Kate moves through a location, such that the direction you were just pointing her in no longer works. And then things are only interactive when you’ve cumbersomely steered her into them. And then you want to stop playing because no, no, games don’t need to be this bad any more.

They redrafted the same voice actor who spoke Kate’s lines in the first two, one Sharon Mann, but oh boy something’s gone wrong there. It might simply be the passing of time – Mann is fifteen years older than when she recorded for the first game, while Kate’s barely aged a week, and yet her voice now sounds like someone in her 60s. It’s so jarringly peculiar, this seemingly elderly voice coming from a woman in her 20s, although this at least serves to distract from the nonsense she’s speaking.

And then it just cascades – gibberish puzzles, doors magically open because you talked to some random person, traipsing about looking for what minute detail might have changed since you last traipsed through the scene, and a cavalcade of abysmal acting delivering half-translated nonsense.

And that’ll do it, really. Horrible to control, horrible to listen to, really surprisingly ugly to look at, and and all-round mess, I’ve no desire to put myself through this. So, I shall state for the record: Maybe it’s amazing! I mean, it obviously isn’t, because it seems unlikely they’ll fire the voice cast and implement a new control system some hours into the game, but I can’t assure you they haven’t. What I can assure you is I’ve been here too often, seen this too many times, to put myself through it again.

And why would I, anyway, because the people who’ve already decided they’re going to love it will be loving it against all perceptions of reality, and I’m fairly sure at this point in the game series’ life, no one else could care less.

So was the removal of Denuvo last update just a failure on their site?

Or did they went 200% retard now and decided to put the D back in?

A couple of days ago the game received a patch that (at last) introduced the classic Point and Click mode, getting rid of the sluggish controls for gamepads (the full release is Syberia.3.Deluxe.Edition.v2.0-ALI213).

While it's a definite improvement, unfortunately this is one of those malignant beasts that carry so much misdirections and painfully wrong design decisions that cannot find a redemption in any way. Laughing Sad
I had the game sitting in the backlog and finally decided to give it a shot out of curiosity, thinking that maybe there could be some actual good parts hidden beneath the junk. Not the wisest decision. Good lord of the snow ostriches, what have they done.

Going for a more "cinematic" approach based on questionable cameras isn't even the worst part of the entire thing, it's the atrocious utilization of the already bad Unity engine, with SSAO halos, stiff and sluggish movements, checkpoints, godawful cutscenes, embarrassing voice acting (even the poor Kate herself sounds robotic and bored here, how can we blame her) with the aggravating factor of not following the facial animations at all (the result is much creepier than Andromeda's, which is a remarkable achievement Y U No???? ) and as if that wasn't enough, the performance is consistently terrible as well with random drops to the 30s for absolute no reason considering how dated it looks. If you want to go for a movie-like experience, either do it well or don't do it at all, silly geese!

There are still puzzles (although they rely on backtracking a lot), a good soundtrack and references to the previous games..but that's where the positives end.
The writing/dialogues in general took such a huge nosedive, the new characters and plotline are simply uninteresting (damned Yokels xD) or ridiculous like the stereotyped antagonists, both the atmosphere and pacing constantly feel off, which made impossible for me to finish the game and the only option left was to press the shift-delete button. Don't bother with this aberration, just stay with the pleasant memories coming from the first two (fantastic, imo) games, and forget that this exists.
