Bought the Gold Edition yesterday and played the first ~4 maps so far.

It's pretty much like Dungeon Keeper 2, but with some new little features added too.
For example you can create warband groups for more precise attacks. Or add minions to a peace-group, so they don't go to a rally flag.
Or being able to build replacement earth blocks.

Only thing that bothers me a bit, is that the FPS in somewhat bigger fights are only ~40. Nearly 4GB VRAM gets used too for some reason.
CPU and GPU usage is only at 25-30%.

Some strange performance in this kind of game.

But overall this game is
So Much Win

Haha indeed, it's the Dungeonkeeperest Dungeon Keeper clone available Very Happy

I like it definitely more than Dungeons 2 for instance, it's a shame that it was released in such an incomplete state, they should have waited a bit more as the product greatly benefited from the patching and new contents. Will download the Gold version too one of these days once the mighly backlog gets cleared a little.

@ixigia
Trying to clear my backlog too a bit now. This here being the first step. grinhurt

I might buy Dungeons 2 with that frosty DLC too during the sale or afterwards at another discount.
But from what i played back then, it was pretty good too.

Some things that bothered me back then and made me stop playing, apparently got mostly fixed now. For example you could not pickup minions from the hotbar.

Biggest thing that annoyed me about WFTO was the performance. I enjoyed the gameplay a lot.

I only wish someone would clone the first DK instead of DK2.

@Steelone
Yea the performance definately still needs MUCH work.

I arrived in some later and rather big map now, and the FPS go down to even ~20, depending where the screen is at.

And finished. Very Happy
Took me ~15h for base campaign and ~5h for the Heart of Gold DLC.

Was rather enjoyable and very true to Dungeon Keeper 2.

A few things bothered me though:
- As mentioned earlier, the performance is just shit in the later levels. It was mostly at 30-40, and in big fights it went down to 10 FPS. Shocked
- Don't remember how it was in DK2, but you have so many different units later on (thanks to torturing/converting the good guys), that the navigation on the hotbar for your units became annoying.
- The units of DK2 had much more charme than here. <3 Horny, Iron Maidens and the fat red fuckers. Laughing

@Bob Barnsen

Dk1 and dk2 are still my beloved games.

For me the biggest disappointment in dk2 was that horny could be only summoned. But it was somehow justified by the plot.

I still remember having a separate mini dungeon for horny in Dk1 as he got pissed off rly fast and started to beat the crap out of other minions.

Started playing WFTO recently and I'm rly liking what I saw so far Cool

@konkol84
I think in DK2 you could summon Horny permanently too (sometimes)? And there he could go berserk too IIRC.

Or maybe it was in some custom maps.
Back then you could buy so called Mission Packs on CD for all kind of games, like this and the C&C games. Very Happy

My Pet Dungeon is a distinctly different experience from all our other game modes thus far, with a much greater emphasis on dungeon building, exploration and discovery. Each level challenges the player to build a dungeon and raise enough points to progress onwards to the next land. My Pet Dungeon makes for a relaxing break from the day-to-day conquest of Kairos!

Key Features
  • New My Pet Dungeon Sandbox-Style Campaign - Narrated as ever by your despicable mentor Mendechaus (Richard Ridings)
Eight All-New Levels - Focussed on exploration, discovery and dungeon building (2 levels available for free!)
Unique Scoring System - Earn points by building the greatest dungeon in the Underworld; earn enough to unlock the next level

Bonus Objectives - Complete special objectives to earn extra points, such as raising your minions’ Levels or slaying dozens of heroes - all at your own pace
  • Room Unlock System - Rooms unlock over time, freeing your research up to focus on other Aspects
  • The Toybox - A special room unique to My Pet Dungeon, allowing you to pick up and drop enemy units into your dungeon as though they were mere toys
  • Wave Spawning - Spawn waves of enemy units to put your dungeon through its paces through new controls
  • Three Unlockable Themes - Unlock the long-awaited Empire Dungeon Themes at last, newly refined to work as playable themes
  • Winter Wonderland - Discover a new snowy terrain theme as your minions crunch through frozen underground caverns
  • God Mode - Realise your omnipotence with the power to shape the very land, spawn in units and much more - all in real time

My Pet Dungeon is a love letter to all the fans who’ve long wanted a mode that lets you play the game at your own pace, free from the constraints of Campaign, Skirmish or Crucible. Now you can finally build the dungeon of your darkest dreams!

I've played through this game twice and its ok (and better than no dk at all). I still think this team missed some key gameplay points of the originals.

- creatures don't have much personality in camparison to original games.
- adding too much to the game, sacrifice room, spirit room, beasts vs normal creatures, constructs like replacement earth and the underminer.
- this one sucks, the level design.. The original campaign in particular forces you to play maps one way. Maps like the necro crypt map

/end rant.

Final DLC coming soon-ish

http://store.steampowered.com/app/594630/War_for_the_Overworld__The_Under_Games_Expansion/
Release Date: 20 Apr, 2018
Quote:
At long last the veil has been pierced and through the aetherial gap comes the news you’ve been waiting for: the final expansion and accompanying major update for War for the Overworld are slated for release this month! The Under Games awaits!

The Under Games:

  • An all-new 7-level campaign
    • Choose your Underlord and participate in a deadly tournament, set across a series of scenarios that call back to classic Dungeon Management gameplay!
    • Each of the 4 playable Underlords has a unique playstyle, driven by their powerful traits and exclusive minions and Aspects.
    • A completely overhauled AI awaits with 5 difficulty levels and a multitude of personalities to put you through your paces.
    • Conquer arenas with distinctive layouts and a variety of visual themes, including the new blood-soaked Sanguine theme.

  • 2 new games modes
    • Race to capture and hold key positions in King of the Underhill, which will then blast your opponent’s Dungeon Core from distance.
    • Mount a multipronged attack against your opponent’s Core Shards, then watch as their dungeon crumbles.

  • 3 new Underlords with their own unique unlockable Dungeon Themes.
  • 9 new Aspects expand your Veins of Evil, with new defences, constructs, potions and spells!
  • New terrain features and shrines await in the Underworld, such as the ultra-hard Quartz and Moongate teleportation shrine.

Patch 2.0: Untold Depths (free to all):
  • Remastered Main Campaign including new cinematic cutscenes, new terrain themes, rebalanced levels, and improved tutorials.
  • Vastly expanded Map Editor features as long-requested by our fans: build maps for nearly any mode, including My Pet Dungeon, and use the new Mighty Script Editor to trigger complex events. Now you can truly create the levels you’ve always wanted to, and even chain them together to make narrative campaigns!
  • More types of content on the Steam Workshop, with scripted custom scenarios and campaigns arriving when our industrious community get their hands on the new tools. The best will be curated by us, so you won’t miss a beat.
  • New game modes to use in Skirmish, Multiplayer and the Map Editor: claim key positions in King of the Underhill, or destroy fragments of your opponents in Core Shards.
  • Devastating New Underlord AI, rebuilt from the foundations to challenge even the most scheming players. Our new AI can use all the tools and tricks you’ve come to rely on - can you rise to the challenge?
  • Sanguine and Snowy terrain themes now available in the enhanced Map Editor, which recast levels in either blood red or ice white.
  • New Sacrifice ritual calls back to the origins of the Dungeon Management genre: drop different combinations of minions onto your Sanctuary Altar, and if the dark god Mendechaus is feeling generous, you might get something exciting in return!
  • Polish, polish and more polish! You’ll find countless new animations, gameplay improvements, balance adjustments, significant performance optimisations, and other changes and fixes - as you’ve come to expect from us in our quest to create the ultimate Dungeon Management experience.

The new "campaign" sounds more like glorified puzzle scenarios.

But i wonder if the improved map editor will allow others to create custom campaigns themselves (constisting of several chained-together scenarios)?
Or only single scenarios?

In April 2015 when we first unleashed War for the Overworld, our take on a modern Dungeon Management Game, we could not have foreseen how incredibly well received it would be.

Since that fateful day we have spent years improving, reshaping and evolving the game; and now, after over 60 free patches, 7 major free updates - including the gargantuan Patch 2.0 - and 4 incredible expansions, we finally feel the work is complete!

Thank you to all our fans for this incredible journey. We hope you'll stick with us as we move onto the next chapter. But don't worry, we'll still be keeping an eye on things and dropping a patch now and then, as well as focussing on new community made content in regular updates. (Read our "What Happens Now?” post for more details - https://wftogame.com/beyond-patch-2-0/)

In the meantime, enjoy the latest and final version of our main trailer, updated and revised following the huge 2.0 update!
