valve said hl2 with hdr is on their "to do" list. the problem they have is that they can't just patch the original maps but they would have to make a 5gigs download to implement hdr in half life 2. adding the hdr feature to the gfx engine is not enough, they would have to rebuild the maps with hdr lighting and make em download

its lame that valve expects us to pay full price for this... it SHOULD be a free addon for those who bought hl2... i doubt it will have that much new stuff (weapons, vehicles) to really warrant it, and lets face it, as far as 'new' story content goes... we were MASSIVELY ripped off in the story department of half-life 2 to begin with... this isn't an addon pack, it should be valve trying to make amends for a really shallow half-assed attempt at telling a story in hl2.

while i agree that an addon shouldn't be full price, i must say that i enjoyed hl2's story very much, especially the orwell atmosphere in city17.

yeah the atmosphere was fine, the action and gameplay kicked ass, and the characters were amazingly well done... it was a long and fufilling game.
but break it down... dont confuse story and depth, with how enjoyable the game was to play... think about it, and dont be swayed by public opinion, and whats 'unpopular' to say... think about how much story there honestly was in it, beyond "aliens invaded, one b*stard sold us out, humans enslaved, come save us gordon..."

IMO Half life 2 was a great game, I cant wait for the next episode HL2 ending was very cool, left you of course wanting more, some may say it lacked a "proper" ending, but imo i was cool.
And I loved that the story wasnt handed to you(the player) on a silver plate, markings on the walls, un-unstanderble vertons(sp?) made you decipher you own belifes about the story, the Valve forumes also had ALOT of activity about conspiries and such, witch was fun reading.
I also like the fact that the game was playeble out-of-the-box(even dough i got it over steam) so no bugs at all from day 1 was cool.
Also nothing beats the gravity gun
Half-life 2 - 9,9/10
I dont really give a shit if EA is the publisher/distributor, Valve has proved not to be a publishes pet.

$12-$15 for ~50%+ more gameplay is not bad. And using steam to buy games in my country is MUCH cheaper. What did you expect? Sell HL2 and give DOD:S, Aftermath, RDKF, etc for free?

well i would ATLEAST expect aftermath to be free for gold buyers... sell the game on steam as a standalone, but gold'ys should get it free i mean it allready recycles most models that allready come in hl2, all they really did was make some more maps, and script some sequences im sure... maybe, if we're lucky, they recorded some more dialogue too, lol.

since when an expansion should be free? the gold version had already more than enough stuff. 13bucks on steam and 20 in stores is really cheap, remember doom3 expansion pack: recycled textures from doom3, same weapons +1 = 35$

Deserves a buy imo. We always complain on prices and games not being good. This one is cheap and hopefully will be as good or even better than HL2.

So did you expect to see all installments(?) of the movies like starwars and lord of the rings for the price of one?
You're arguement is complete trash. Stop posting it.

its basically kill bill all over again... pay twice for one product.. look as i said, who gives a crap, if you want to pay money for it, you go ahead... and you mustn't have been the brightest one in class if you seem to think my argument is that hl should be a free episode based game, you idiot.

chiv, this story is been going for years now...They still do it because successfull sequels sell. I don't care how much effort they put on it. I only care when I think of the $15 I payed and say "that's something that desrved those money".

Liked your point of view from the story part. It really put people discussing their opinions and beliefs outside the game...

I am really looking forward to the expansion to HL2... I think it will kick some serious ass.
Even playing HL2 again now to get the addiction level down to normal again... But it just makes me want more....
IMHO Half-Life 2 is a great game, only thing I found "bad" about it was the fact that it is kinda short.
EA will distribute the CD/DVD's yes but they have nothing to do with the game itself. I also believe that if valve feels that EA is trying to get them to do as EA wants they will leave them.
About the ending of HL2... Guess what it was fucking supposed to be non-conclusive. Why else would they be developing HL3 smartasses...

No game is perfect but HL2 was pretty damn close...
I found the driving fun... for a while but they could've skipped some parts of it.
