This will amount to between $5 million and $10 million in 2017 and the early part of 2018, covering content and technical updates, PR and marketing, and launches on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Funcom expects Conan Exiles to remain in Early Access for the rest of this year.

This is a well timed success for Funcom. The company's financial results illustrated the decline of its current live games - The Secret World, Age of Conan and Anarchy Online - leading to a significant year-on-year drop in Q4 revenue. Funcom plans to relaunch The Secret World, complete with a host of improvements, in the first half of this year, with launch activities expected to begin in March.

There are two other projects currently in development: another game based on the Conan IP at the company's Oslo studio, and another, more mysterious title at its North Carolina office. Funcom expects to grow its team from 103 people to as much as 130 by the end of calendar 2017.

Still feels closer to one of the many unpolished generic indie survival/crafting games to me. (eg Ark)

Granted having funcom behind it makes things a little different.

Again, not a bad game by any means.

I don't hate "the game". But I have reasonable concerns in regard to Funcom's way of doing business( development,budget and marketing-wise)

It just boggles my mind seeing that they've had a pretty large team and 4.5 mil budget yet what they delivered on the launch date looked like it was made by 3 students in a garage when they had some spare time.

Because it isn't the launch date? I wonder, have you ever played/tested a alpha?

Because an alpha that is complete is called a beta^^

Also, most features aren't even in the game yet and not because they aren't developed, but because they are still internal.

They'll add content over time, once they deem them "ripe" internally.

That's how this process works.

Let's assume around 50 people work on this project (half the company), or mainly on this project (with overhead included). Average net wage in Norway is 3500 Euros, now that's NET, so that usually means double for a company in total cost. That's around 7k euros per month per employee (but we also know, that programmers and designers make more than average, whatev).

Multiply that up to a year, and BOOM, you're at 4.2 million Euros. Obviously this is very simplified math, much more goes in to it, and this is far from precise due to a multitude of reasons, I don't want to go in specifics.

For you, 4.5 million seems like a big number. In Norway, for companies this size, it's not THAT much.

Funcom gets a lot of criticism as a company, much of that hits closer to home, than they'd like to admit. But they are actually, imho, a company with good products. That didn't happen by accident.

And tell me again, how many MMOs as old as AO are still supported?

Perhaps they should restructure their company huh? If they can't seem to manage their time, resources and money.Smaller companies successfully release FULL games with that budget. Or at least REAL early access games that are not that "empty" and void of a proper content.

You can now partially repair buildings if you don't have all the different ingredient types
Placeables can now auto-align with the ground if you press the middle-mouse button. This will be rebindable in the next patch (see Known Issues)
It should now be possible to destroy Mitra and Set altars again
Add stronger hit confirm to arrow hits, both to object hit and to crosshair
Crossbows should now fire properly
Captured Thralls should now spawn once again
Relic rocks in starting desert now have collision

Fixed more issues where accessing underwater corpses was not possible

Known Issues
Newly added binds or redefined default binds from us will not be updated if a player has changed their default keybindings. They have to delete their Input.ini to get the new bindings. We're working on a fix for this issue.
You can get a female player characters with male voices. This is fixed in the next patch.
Some players are unable to build shrines in single-player mode
NPCs can sometimes chase players into the water.

It was 14gb in my case. That's more than half of the 25gb the game was taking up on my ssd before the patch. Makes me wonder how many assets were changed or added.

Norway has a grant each year for game developing, where a number of games are considered and the most promising gets funded. Funcom has gotten money for earlier projects, not sure if this one qualified.

Edit: and were not talking huge sums, I think it totals around 6 mill norwegian each year, so about 600.000 euros, shared between the games.

While I feel like this is PR bullshit.. if true though, I welcome it. These kind of games are very time intensive, just like MMOs, on a certain level at least and exploits/cheaters are an even bigger pain in the ass than in many other genres due to it.
