Yen, who recently co-starred in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and xXx: Return of Xander Cage, follows an undercover police officer (Yen) on a mission to take down one of the most powerful and dangerous criminal organizations in the world: the notorious Triads. The story was awesome. The dialogue was awesome. Granted it didn't age well, but when it first came out the mix between asian/english in dialogue. Felt natural. And the story was compelling.
i really do like donald, though.. i have no idea what his english is like. I've only ever seen him speak chineses in films? Maybe muttering one or two englisher bits in his americaner films? I'm sure he can speak english, but i havent seen his new star wars movie to really comment on how fluid and clear it is...

No I mean someone still has to write the script, even if it is heavily based on the game's. They can't quite show the design document to the actors instead of a script

Wei doesn't have to be young. He has to be a UC struggling to keep his morals in check.
Donnie can do it. An older Wei... going back... meeting old mates and shit...
Movie should be full on Chinese though. with some english dialogue.
Usually I tend to be disgusted when video game adaptations get awkwardly announced, but this one maybe...could work. Stick to the original story like Waldo said, et voilà! Hell they could just remake the cutscenes (Even the music was good so they can rehash that as well).
We could also really use another Sleeping Dogs gam..nevermind
Nobody claims that he isn't fit! He just isn't in his 30s anymore.. But as I said, I can't think of anyone better, but mainly because I don't follow HK films that closely anymore
Makeup, CGI and a good stunt double should work for that.
Hell aside from a few smaller facial features in that image I would probably have guessed 35 - 40 and not 50 though a closeup might show some bigger differences.
(Makeup alone could probably work really well with how well trained he appears to be, no need to risk some cheap CGI editing ruining things that way even if quality has improved a bit since the 80's or so where it began.)
Movie would probably require some stunts though in additional to martial arts and guns.
(And of course fast cars and a lengthy marketplace chase sequences, must fucking suck being a trader in those alleyways with how often some guy runs through tipping over everything.)
But I haven't followed Hong Kong movies in forever either though, 80's - 90's somewhere mostly watching with friends who were fans of the genre and then it's been the occasional parody movie or comedy mostly.
I wonder how the game would transform into a movie script, guess we'll see if this works out.
The game did have a decent story in-between the various filler missions at least unlike some other movie adaptions so that works to it's advantage too.
(Interesting cast of characters too even if Wei didn't interact all that much with some of them, Missus Chu for example though she had a couple of scenes.)
Hah early on in the game they're making such a fuss about Wei hesitating to kill but in the actual missions those triad goons had all kinds of unfortunate accidents, swordfish, icicle, meat hook, electric applications and uncovered ceiling fan ventilation.
("Tis just a flesh wound!")
Well the movie version should be able to handle that a bit better.

I don't think there sadly are any better choices anymore.
The classic ones i still have fond memories of are Bruce Lee (RIP ) and Jackie Chan. Though i haven't heard or seen anything from Jackie recently.
There might be better visual choices for the movie, but at Donnie also has the skills. And doesn't need 1000 cuts in a scene to make his fighting look good.
