This game is the very rare case of the: FUCK, I HATE THIS SHIT, YOU ARE A LUCKER SHIT, THE GAME IS SHIT one minute, and then the next fight FUCK, I LOVE THIS SHIT, YOU ARE SHIT, AND I JUST BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF YOU, THIS FEELS AWESOME.
At least that was the case in the beginning. There is a learning curve to this game, and wow, even someone who loves competitive games forgot how that felt. Most competitive games I have played were all either shooters or RTS games, and I pretty much jump in to any of those and perform on a way better than average manner - especially in 1v1, which I love most in games.
Now that I have that preface out of the way. Let me tell you, this game takes skill. I play with a controller, because I want to learn the controller better, and I don't find the controls bad. Tried KB+M, that is by far superior, but still.
Cool-headed execution of moves and muscle memory is very important. You need to learn and master combos, learn timings of enemies. No two duels between classes are the same. I hear fighting games are like this (never played), so I love that a lot.
The amount I improved in 2 days is massive though. I would win 100 to 0 vs. first day me. Duels feel great and are always high tension. Some brutal and fast, some drawn out and tactical. All characters have a couple ways of playing them, but if you want freedom of making plays, then you better pick the hard classes. Easy classes are at a huge disadvantage imho.
I loved Mount and Blade, that is the reason I tried this, but this is more complex than that. Also, they have the BEST system yet for 1v2. 1v3 you will not win realistically, but 1v2 you can. And that feels like a complete fucking blast, mates.
I almost quit a couple of times in the beginning, but once I powered through that first afternoon, it all became so much better so friggin' fast. |
This x10, your opinion of the game will change with time, if ur struggling and find the game to have "random" gameplay, and that is the only reason why u wont get it, just stick with it a bit more, you will find that this is indeed a very deep fighter, and very unique at that, i have been playing fighting games since the very first mortal kombat, and this game is a blast.

If anyone bought it, let me know how the SP is. The pricing just peaked to 41eu on cd key sites and with no reviews out yet, might stay there for a while.

It's pretty short going by some comments on the Steam forums, ~6 hours or so meaning roughly 2 hours per faction but then again the main focus is on online multi-player.

Yeah, you can tell the SP is just attached.. an afterthought. But who gives a shit?
The game is about salt mining and dispensing.

The only bad thing about the game since release... no one who sucked in the Beta, bought the game. Only the people that kicked ass. And now there almost exclusively crazy good people in this game, I'm completely back to square one. It's like I never played the game at all... (also thanks to the changed they did to hyperarmor, stagger and guardbreak counter timings etc).
Salty as fuck But I'm gonna fight through it
PS: Yes, I know, there is a cheat (Block/Parry bot etc) out that seems to sell like hotcakes.

Just read the full details for this game (I skipped the beta). Peer hosting only, full unlock for all skills for $30? already bots to ensure easy wins? AND you have to pay for the game + season pass?
I don't think I'll bother - this is probably the worst example of ripping people off so far this year - and it's just going to get worse.
I thought P2P was bad enough in Elite, but at least there are some efforts to control cheating - from what I've seen, there is very little to stop rampant botting.
Oh well, RIP gaming.

What do you mean $30 for all skills? I thought the model is the same as Siege's, you only need the Season Pass if you don't want to grind shit.

to quote VGC247:
"All of that is available for Steel, For Honor’s in-game currency, earnable through a variety of ways. You’re also able to exchange real-money for Steel, starting at $5/€5 for 5000 Steel, $10/€10 for 11,000 Steel, $20/€20 for 25,000 Steel, $50/€50 for 65,000 Steel, and a whopping $100/€100 for 150,000 Steel."
And what can you buy with Steel? Among other things...

Please tell me that Ubilol learned at least something and have some anti-cheat protection from day 1 on? Unlike Division where it took them what felt like ages.

Pick one.

Believable and relatable...Yep, sounds like Call of Duty

Precisely why P2P combat 1 on 1 games suck hugely. There are always bots on a P2P server, but when it's 1v1, it's horrific and a huge waste of money.

They are using EAC only (Easy Anti Cheat). So, no... I hope they at least add BattleEye soon. Won't do much but at least more than EAC is capable of on it's own.

I don't own a console though and did not plan on picking one up... but I advise everyone who has interest in this game and owns a console, to get the console version. For sure.
