Really confused about this one , reviews are praising to high heaven , but all my "long time RE lover" friends are kinda hating because according to them its not RE , but just decent RE-skinned Outlast/AlienIsolation wannabe

So, I finished this sucker last night and... I fucking loved it.
First it felt like your usual walking simulator but then it turned into an actual RE1/2/3/CV style RE game just in first person. Which made exploration(looting) actually better than in the classics.
People that prefer the older games have no reason not to play this imho. Unless they just can't/want to cope with the fact that it's in first person.
The story was "mostly" conclusive and also had some mindfuck surprises at the end.
I hope to see more of this in the future + a little T-Virus outbreak throwback title in this style would be much appreciated.
There is also some negatives, obviously, like the lack of enemy variety and some questionable combat mechanics (derpy is propably a more fitting word there I guess) but they didn't tear down my overall enjoyment of this at all.

I know some of these too. But when we discussed the reasons what's so different or what isn't... they were never able to come up with anything objectively. They always end with high tension and "I just don't like it, okay!".
The thing is... the game has backtracking, inventory management, puzzles, even better exploration, boss fights, logs to read and so on. There is shit to unlock depending on how you finish your runs...
All the stuff the classic ones had with one exception. It's missing 3rd person and the tank controls. That's it.
And it's not even that much shorter than some of the older ones. Hell, you could beat most of the old ones just as fast. So I don't know what's up with that.
It also had way, way less jumpscares than I thought it would have. They were really fucking rare and mostly well placed.
What I see now is imho alot of nostalgia, elitism, grudgeholding (because of 4,5,6) and so on fighting about who's the coolest neckbeard in the club.

Did you expect replay value due to your experience of the older games? Because I call bullshit then. No RE game ever had any replay value then if that was the case.
If you meant in comparison with other games in general, then yeah. You propably won't miss out on too much.

Depends on your "long time RE lover" friends opinion on RE5 and RE6. If they liked those then they fucking suck!

they hate both of them (RE6 at the bottom with Umbrella corpse), but still place them above RE7 as a RE game , that why i am so confused as everyone online says its comeback to old ones, but these firends are telling its moe of an Outlast game than RE  |
Well, at least their reply wasn't "but this one doesn't have co-op" like some other  's out there

This is the first game that actully gave me 970 VRam (3,5 yeah) issue. But you should be absolutely fine. I've read that lots of 4gb cards in general are struggling with max settings though later on. Heavy short stutters and you can tell that it's due to the world loading in or unloading in the background.
Nothing that can't be fixed with some fuckery in the settings.

It's good on a 970. 60FPS with shadows on high (very high tanks the framertae) and HBAO+ and SMAA. Some stuttering here and there though. More annoyingly though I am getting some out of memory errors. I'll try lowering the texture resolution I guess.

Beat it and was not very impressed. The enemy variety is a joke and it only took 6.5 hours to complete. It didn't feel like Resident Evil to me, more like a Evil Within/Outlast hybrid. Alien Isolation blows this game away IMO.

sure its because of 1st person, but with 3rd person vr wouldnt be possible. they decided to make it a vr experience (and that still is a punch in the face of pc gamers cause of ps4 exclusive shit a year), so thats a design decision (and with 1st person you sadly can see the flaws of the graphics,with 3rd person view it would be easier to hide them)

All horror games should only have a first person view..  And ,of course, played in the dark with headphones on.. a proper way to shit your pants

not finished yet. 8 hours in and the game is very good. At least until this point it was totally like resident evil 1 and 3 combo.
edit - And it's super nice feeling to just play a fantastic looking game, which does not crash, don't have any apparent bugs and works 60fps maxed.

I hate sometimes the save system. Everytime i kill something i save again and i hate the inventory its too small.
