After the mild critical success of The Visit and an impressive Box Office performance thanks to its ultra low budget ($5 M), M. Night Shyamalan (writer/director) teams up for a second time with producer Jason Blum for 2017's Split.
At first Joaquin Phoenix was to play the lead but he was replaced by James McAvoy, which is a fine decision if you ask me! The rest of the cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson of which I know none. (By googling I get the impression only Buckley is noteworthy.)
The only released details are that it's "a suspense thriller with elements of the supernatural" and it is expected to be a (very) low budget production, like The Visit, because that's the kind of movies Blum's production company makes (see The Purge, Creep, Ouija, etc).
Filming started last month, for a January 20, 2017 release.

80%, 7.1/10, based on 20 reviews. It's early, it can go down. "No consensus yet."
Even the negative reviews praise McAvoy's performance, which doesn't surprise me at all.

I hope it's good in the end. The premise is interesting.

Judging from the trailer McAvoid seems to be stealing the scene, he's really great when playing such deviant characters (like in Filth or Trance). Hopefully the Shamalamadingdong twists(tm) this time around won't ruin everything
Wouldn't blame him for after earth. Him or any other director big willy S might have chosen for that since he wasn't exactly calling the shots, IMO.
So, he wasn't calling the shots about appointing him writer and director hence he is not to be blamed about the movie being utter crap. Makes complete sense
Well, this is the first time in years, when a trailer doesn't cause a single emotion but "meh" for me
Looked so... boring and then we get that "oh noes, what happens when he unlocks his true potential" thing. That lost me completely to meh-land.
Critics Consensus: Split serves as a dramatic tour de force for James McAvoy in multiple roles -- and finds writer-director M. Night Shyamalan returning resoundingly to thrilling form.
6.5/10 doesn't sound too thrilling, so I guess most reviews are "it wasn't bad and McAvoy's performance was excellent" rather than "its was very good".
Anyway, I can't wait for the blu!

Might still see it. but I expect it being worse than Filth

Excellent start at the box office, made $40M in 3 days, on a budget of $10M - it performed far above the expectations of the studio and distributor. The opening weekend of The Visit, which grossed an excellent $100M on a $5M budget, was $25M, so we're potentially looking for a box office total more than that.
Smalayan is back to studios loving him (to make very low budget movies)

Watched this in the cinema and for me it was mediocore.
The guys performance is average at best. Couldn't even tell which personality was active at a given time.
Also it was very boring at certain parts, and I could easily guess the ending by the middle of the movie.
Watched this with the missus and as always with M.Night.Shamalamadingong, i expected way more than what got delivered. Its not really a bad movie but the movie has more holes than my teeth and the "ultra spoopy twist" at the end couldn´t save the movie.
The guys performance was alright i think, played it out pretty solid
