I just finished all the single player side content so far. still got the story and online stuff left. it's incredible how detailed and hand made the city is.
Until I started doing the graffiti side quest (even though I already explored a ton of locations), I had no idea how much vertical exploration there really is. it's just staggering.
and the HUD design team for this game needs to be given a raise.
They accomplished what dev teams rarely do. the HUD is both lore friendly, completely customizable, and pretty much offers an almost perfect combination of intuitive utility/immersion gameplay mechanics for any kind of player. you can play with the minimap and hacker vision, and solve everything in a few min, or you can do manual exploration.
The game basically invents(or refines, depending on your game knowledge) a new sub genre, and it's only a fraction of the genre microcosms it offers.
I call it the urban environment puzzler. A few simple things, put together into an urban architecture plan, and you have a fantastic, and repeatably interesting segment.
alarm doors, keys, security consoles, a few guards of different variety, and a huge hand crarted city. combine those in any random combination and you are set. basically, ubi can pick any building on the map, and create a little level. It's that well polished. if they just gave us an editor to place these scripts, onto the map, and create missions like that, the game would have a very long market stay.
and the engine is just mind blowingly interactive. I did a sidequest, combat against a gang, on a rooftop. there were maybe 20 barrels in a pile. i tossed c4 there, blew it up, and the barrels went flying without a performance drop. the whole city still rendered below, with cars pedestrians, explosions, and almost everything breakable and physics infused.
one thing missing is blood. there's pretty much no blood in combat. just occasionally premade blood stains.
good game men. will need to add it to the game of the year thread as an honorable mention at least.

I can do without the timed wiring missions. Those suck.

The comments here make me think it's worth 26 bucks. Tempting.

For 26 bucks, I would say it's worth it for fans of GTA clones. It's not gonna be a memorable game, we won't talk of it the way we talked of Sleeping Dogs or almost any GTA game, but it's quite entertaining.
Edited because I must have been drunk

Agree. I miss Sleeping dogs. That one was a great game and a lot better than this one.

I'm not seeing them adding any actual city areas to the game but perhaps they'll surprise me.
Quote: |
T-Bone Content Bundle: Players will get the style and the swagger of legendary hacker Raymond “T-Bone” Kenney with his truck and outfit, and they’ll discover Mayhem — a new co-op difficulty level that will pit players against a new enemy archetype armed with advanced weaponry.
Human Conditions: Through several hours of additional mission content in three new world stories, players will uncover San Francisco’s biggest scandals on the cutting edge of science, medicine, and misuse. In Human Conditions, players will also experience new elite co-op missions and face a new enemy type: Jammer, with the technology to hunt players down.
No Compromise: Players will experience an all-new world story which mixes Marcus up in the seedy underbelly of San Francisco and puts him in the crosshairs of the Russian mafia. Also includes a new co-op mode: Showd0wn, where only the best players survive.
In addition, players with the Season Pass will get Day 1 access to two unique ULC packs:
Root Access Bundle: Includes full sets of outfits, new cars, a drone skin, and a new weapon, as well as the Zodiac Killer mission.
Psychedelic Pack: Customize Marcus’s outfit, weapon, drone, and car in the grooviest style.

(From: http://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/11/02/watch-dogs-2-season-pass-detailed/ )
There's also a Playstation deal for the game between Sony and Ubi.
Quote: |
During the Watch Dogs 2 presentation Ubisoft revealed that Watch Dogs 2 DLC will arrive on PS4 30 days earlier than PC and Xbox One. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has yet to provide any specific details about what this downloadable content will offer. However, the season pass for the original Watch Dogs included everything from free in-game vehicles, new outfits and a new playable character (Watch Dogs’ Bad Blood DLC allowed players to control eccentric hacker T-Bone), so there are plenty of possibilities.
|
(From https://gamerant.com/watch-dogs-2-cinematic-trailer-dlc-timed-exclusive-ps4/ )
So it begins with a themed outfit pack which also includes a buss/bulldozer/sound system hybrid (Going by the trailer of it.) and some new co-op mode (And enemy type.) and then it's another pack with three new side missions (Or world missions as they call them.) and finally some world missions themed around the Russian mob.
(And going by SteamDB there's a number of padded content via outfits and such planned too in addition to these three content packs.)

The Season Pass seems very light on content. The Pass itself is 40$, but the first pack (T-Bone) is only 7$. Even if the last two packs are twice that at 15$ each, that's still only 37$ total right? So where the rest of the value?
I think the extra "value" comes from the two "unique ULC packs" that come day 1, the skin packs. Just that, clothes, vehicles and gun skins. Even the T-Bone pack is only skins, from what I understand.
So, I don't think there's any real value coming with the Season Pass. Anyone looking for ACTUAL content is probably better off buying the 2 content DLC later. And even then, they most likely won't be worth it. Better just playing the game as-is.

Cs.rin.ru has this "Cream" tool (Cream API) for unlocking DLC content provided you have the needed files and also the app-id of said DLC (Easy enough to look up and pre-made config files are probably also available for games should that be needed.) but I have no idea if that works with games half tied to some other API like UPlay in the case of most Ubisoft titles.
(The content does get registered to the UPlay client on launch so that might block things a bit. - now handled a bit smoother than needing to enter a separate activation key - and keys for each DLC. - into UPlay itself first.)

You remind me that I saw the WD2 thread in that forum previously and they talked about DLC unlock. I just checked again and they say creampi doesn't work, but they created a separate DLC unlocker for WD2 that works.
If this still works by the time Ubisoft release the actual content DLC, I might try the unlocker. I won't try it for skins, not quite worth it.

That's some excellent error handling by the devs.

I'm also very glad that the interaction with the world and it's NPCs that I was hyped for pre-release has been holding up so well. Many here overlooked it in the videos and now it really gets the recognition it deserves.

I haven't completed the campaign, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was very short. The game does offer many side-missions with a certain degree of variety (finding ways to climb buildings to tag them, drone race, motorcross race, car missions, stuff like that).
As far as completing missions goes: it's true that they often feel repetitive. Not necessarily the missions themselves, but HOW you'll complete them. You might find the easiest/shortest way to complete missions and repeat that process.
With that said, you can also fuck a lil bit around to create new paths you haven't done before. Maybe instead of stealthing around guards, you decide to create chaos to distract them and move around. Call gang members to attack and kill them. Remote control a car to run into them.
I'd say the moves you got can get a bit repetitive, but the game remained fun overall. Still, if you want missions and want to take it seriously, I'd say it's probably not THAT kind of game. If you want something truly unique, it might fall short for you.

my advice, unlock the jumper and drone as soon as possible, and just go exploring the city with as little hud as possible. for me, that and sidequests are the best.
the world is packed with upgrade points and money/collectibles, so it's always fun exploring to upgrade skills and buy good gear. but it all boils down to what I mentioned.
it's always a variation of one building with mobs, cameras, doors, air ducts, and hackable loot. you can then play the game as a puzzler, third person shooter, sneaker, even a simple form of overlord games, with calling in mobs and the ability to stun enemies, or a combination of any of those.
the story itself is just cutscenes connecting the above, and spiced with driving/cop evasion in between.
if you play with the full hud, it's gonna feel a lot simpler as you will see everything through walls and secrets will show on the minimap.
so it's gonna depend how you play it, as usual.
