PostPosted: Thu, 5th Jan 2006 14:16    Post subject: F*cked up Life
My life has crossed the "f*cked up" boundaries, I'm unemployed 6 months ago, my wife has been fired 3 weeks ago, we have returned to her parents house, and they are always pissing us off, we are sleeping with our daughter in the same bedroom that we do, we are full of debts, 2 companies have already put us into court of law to pay our debts, I'm fearing that if this continues we still go into jail and lose our daughter. we can't find any job, I honestly don't know what more can I do.

I've even tought about making somekind of Million Dollar Homepage (2), but it's just to lame and ridiculous, I believe I have reached the bottom.

I can't even think anymore, I'm completly desperate and still have to give strengh to my wife so she doens't collapse into depression again, I really don't know what can I do!

Are you expecting some kind of sympathy or something? Anyone can find a job within those six months that you have been unemployed, if they try hard enough. Sell that expensive computer of yours and go look for a job.

and you also get money for having a child Smile

I got 21000kr for going to a normal school, the school is free. and the money is for books. But oh... i don't have a car yet.. and they don't check what you use them on.. Very Happy so i still got them

deelix: believe me, it is.

I've been silent about my life for a long time, but I just can't take it anymore, I need a solution to my problems, and all of my problems have to do directly or indirectly with money, I've made some mistakes in the past, I'm not saying I didn't because I did, but now I have no solution, I can't even request for a loan, no bank will loan me money, what I need is a way to win money, whatever it would be, lame or not, stupiud or not, my life is hanging on a tiny line, what I need is sugestions, and I honestly am unable to think at the moment.

I get so fucking agry when people say oh.. skandinavia sucks because we have so expensive prices.. well its how it is.. when we earn so much, it gets expensive. We earn 25% more than sweden. And we love money.. so then we go to cheap contries and buy lots of stuff thats much cheaper down there

And in you case.. you and your wife had got an job no problem here...
even people who fuck up reeeeal hard in life can get a good paid job.
Not like USA.. where they say.. you aint completing this etc. and you are gonna be a failure

r4iney: I could sell my computer but wouldn't solve anything, at this point my computer is pretty much the only way that I see to win some money, and if I selled it, I will, lose my computer and wouldn't have enough money to pay 5% of all my debts, I've f*cked it really hard...I know...

Invasor: I've tried everything that I've remembered, stores, gas stations, even macdonalds, I've sign up in everyone of them, no one called me yet, I've tried really hard, but it's just impossible when our country is overflowed with ukranians, brasilians, afrikans, etc, all those guys have a job, portuguese people stay unemployed.

daelix: my daughter is almost 2 years old, I received money from the state when she was borned, but that was a long time ago, my situation got worser when I lost my job and later even worser when my wife was fired.

You've not reached the bottom.. think of what you have, a wife, a daughter, a roof over your head, a family who is willing to take you in. Think about how lucky you are to have those things, rather than focussing on what you dont have. And use them as motivation to try to turn things around. There are always jobs, and you can continue to look for something better whilst you work. It's better than doing nothing, and I imagine your wife and her parents will appreciate it if they can see you're making an attempt to sort things out. I dont know what the equivalent is where you are, but a citizens advice bureau will give you advice on how to manage your debt and what financial assistance is available to you.

good luck Smile

talula: when I was fine, I saw things exactly as you see them now, but when one is in such a complicated situation, nothing makes sense anymore, I can't sleep, I can't think, all I do is phone calls looking for a job, wandering around thinking of a way to win money by my own, and sitting down in my chair without hope of any kind.

and I can't wait anymore, if, until the end of this month I don't make somekind of payment to those 2 companies, they will manange to take the house of my father-in-law.

then I will lose that roof you spoked about...

well you definately need togo and get some sort of financial advice.

As far as I'm aware, if it's non priority debt like credit cards and loans you can negotiate with the creditors to pay very little each month once you've proven your family income. I dunno though, this might vary from country to country.

yes I do, but before that I need money to pay off this debts.

it's mortgage, currently I'm with debt with 9 credit companies and 2 banks, 2 of those companies had already put me into court, but the others will soon make that move.

what I have in debt are the following amounts:
banks: €15.000 + €10.000
credit companies: 6 loans of €2.000 + 2 loans of €4.000 and 1 loan of €8.000

currently I'm in court because of the loan of €8.000 and one of the loans of €4.000
that's the oldest ones, but the other ones will soon move against me.

I'm aware I've f*cked it big time, but what I need is some way to solve this, I mean, I've learned my lesson, what will I do?, go into jail for 2 or 3 years, and then when I come out, work for the next 15 years just to pay debts?

Can't you declare bankruptcy in Portugal? Or call some kind of debt restructuring/credit councilling service?

I know this one is for my area, http://www.creditcanada.com/ ... but do you have something similar in Portugal?

IMO there is no quick way to make money. well .. there is gambling, but that will only make things worse. Do you have temp job agencies or those places where you just show up in the morning and work... http://www.laborready.com/default.aspx is one in north america, but I'm sure there must be something similar in portugal as well ...

good luck, and hang in there. things can only get better Smile

If I were you, I would focus on speaking with a financial advisor in order to negotiate with your creditors to get your repayments as low as possible, rather than trying to think up money making schemes. The credit card companies will take you to court if they hear nothing from you, you need to negotiate with them. Generally they cant send you to prison. As far as I'm aware you cant go to prison for mortgage arrears either, but they can reposses your house as a way of payment.

I dont believe you can go to jail for mortgage and loan debts either.
They can sentence you to pay once you get a job again...then they will get the most of your paycheck but they will let you keep somethin to buy food and pay rent.
They can't reposses your house or anythin else because I reckon you don't have anything to reposses...
TYou gotta find a job though...

bakruptcy doesn't exist in portugal.

labor companies exist, but it's the same problem that I've mentioned above, they employ everyone that comes from outside, and leave no vacancy for portuguese people, the only way to get a job in portugal is to get a good job, and good job's are getting extint..

it's very complicated the current situation in portugal

if this are your computer specs, don't expect anyone to feel sorry for you. If you live above your standards, there things happen.
and if you had a job in the past and your wife had a job. how can you need 30.000$ from credit companies then? what did you buy with that money?

im sorry to sound this hard, but it is the truth imo

This is all I could come up with using babelfish to translate debt counsellor. However, there will be at least one organisation in your country that deals with debt councelling and help you get your payments down to something you can afford. Then it's just a case of finding a job and paying the debt off gradually.

EDIT: oops... not entirely sure if this is a website for portugal!

this computer cost me €3.000.

I'm aware of the mistakes I've made, my father-in-law keeps on repeating me the same story everyday, I know what I did, I was a stupid fool, but now I'm at the point where I've recognized my mistakes and trully want to solve them.

as for the rest of the money, we just spend it in clothes, things for the house, dinners, traveling and etc.

this moment I feel the most irresponsable person alive and I probably am.

I see ads up for credit councilling everywhere.

The fact is, with all these companies willing to throw money at you, it's easy to get in over your head.

You don't need to kick yourself too hard for a mistake that many, many people make. Like tatula said, find some help. Open up the phonebook and see if you can find something.

it seems like some European govermenents want to make Europe as the U.S., but that will not work anytime soon, every European country is very different from each other.

it's not like we all speak the same languages and have the same way of life, because we don't.

European countrys have more differences between each other that the U.S. to the rest of the world.

and this thing of being "invaded" by africa and brasil and china is really destroying some european countrys.

I can only blame myself for the mistakes I've made about spending the money I've spent.
but about losing my job, and my wife losing hers, I can't only blame the goverment.

It's unacceptable that I'm suffering the way I am right now, and seeing some brasilian dudes coming to portugal to work for 5 or 10 years just to earn enough to buy a entire hotel in brasil.
