No games for us this xmas... Cloud based DRM. It's the future. |
Steam going offline for hours definitely made me ponder about the extreme volatility, and perhaps futility of our actions. What's the point of spending money on something that with the snap of a finger isn't available anymore, our virtual goods are nothing but digital ashes waiting to disappear. Make game boxes great again!

It used to be we would rage against Steam's DRM. We didn't like the way gaming was going, we rebelled against the restrictions they were imposing on us. But as time passed, we would always think "just one more game on Steam, this one is awesome", until we eventually built such a large library that we didn't care anymore. Why rage when I can buy this 60$ game for 10$ during the summer sale?
We started to justify the hundred of dollars we spent on Steam. "They offer a service, not DRM" "They make the small sacrifice worth it by giving me a different experience from the others" "Gotta fund Half-Life 3 you know?"
But was this all worth it? When we see how quickly we can be separated from our games, is it truly that different from other DRM? What if th...
Nevermind, it's back online. Gotta go buy the Doom Season Pass.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
- Only 25% off.
The Elder Scrolls® Online: Gold Edition
- 40%, but still rather high priced.
Double meh.

Haha, exactly
A similar thing happens whenever the Humps get through their offline moments, suddenly one realizes that feelings that we take for granted and all the efforts are hanging by a thread, ready to become Void in the span of one millisecond. Replace Half Life 3 with the forum upgrade, and the circle completes itself.

Went with Satellite Reign and FF X/X-2 Remaster and then the money was gone. No great deals on Washdogs2, Doom and Hitmen... not that I expected it, just hoping.
(and yes I know other places has better prices, but I only had Steam wallet money left for the sales)

Most of the ones I want like GTA V or Metal Gear Solid V Phantom Pain still do not have big enough discount for me to bite even though they are over a year old now. At 75% off they would get me to buy them but 50% off or less still after all this time just is not as tempting.
