IF its true that it is faster than 6900K in all fronts, prepare for high price, they are not going to undercut its price like half.

Ryzen sounds like the name for a medicine grinhurt
Maybe it will really heal the market from its chronic monopoly disease, it would be refreshing if it doesn't get withdrawn as per tradition.

guuuuuuuuuuuuys and gaaaaaaays plz its not faster than the 6900k, otherwise they would have shown the ingame fps for battlefield or different stuff besides "oooh look its 2 secs faster encoding some shit with one encoder"

yes it would be nice if amd is able to pull something out of their pocket which can compete with intel. buuuuuuuut first look at what i wrote above, and second -> wait for the price. and wait for first real tests next year. no need to get too much excited now

Isnt 6600k or 6500k a sweetspot for games performance anyway?

Not in cpu-bound games no they aren't. 6700k more like it, the others can choke in certain scenarios, well "choke" you know... as in bottleneck some.

Ryzen performing similar/better than the intel CPU when both are not boosted is quite great, but I really have to see their boosted (and overclocked) performance before I make a choice. A lot of what they've shown is very interesting, but I personally don't buy an intel CPU for the stock performance.

Next time I upgrade my PC, it'll most likely be a complete overhaul, so I could easily go with Ryzen IF it competes with an overclocked Intel CPU. I'm looking forward to finding out more about "SenseMI", could be an additional great perk.

About the bf1 fps, was it stream fuck up(some fps programs use some api hooking shit and sometimes don't show up on stream) or did they not show fps even for audience there?

Plus BF1 was singleplayer = barely any bottleneck .. should have tested multiplayer, but you know, bit obvious reasons why they didn't. Most likely the cpu will turn out to be shit (exaggerating again but point is it will be worse than intel in games).

Can't have r/amd stop hyping everything to the high heavens Cool Face

Those who want a stable FPS in dota2?

Also, go to 2 minutes into the vid to see the difference between AMD and INTEL.

Damn, is AMD REALLY trying to show their awesome CPU performance on an already very optimized game?!
Laughing
I bet they try to cater to the mainstream crowd instead of the real gamers.

After their BF1 test, where strangely FPS were hidden, i'm pretty suspicious if they even have anything to offer. Sad

@Bob Barnsen

You didn't even watch the video. The performance difference was very clear in that, it was a slide-show on the intel CPU while it was crispy smooth on AMD.

HOWEVER, let's wait for some real world tests.

They were showing the game + streaming at the same time. CPU encoding looks better, but uses a ton of CPU.
With 96 000 people currently streaming DOTA 2, this is a common scenario. Pro streamers often have a separate PC dedicated fully to streaming, they just stick a powerful CPU in there and let it run.

The video shows the Ryzen chip and the 6900k both capable of gaming + streaming. The 6700K was overclocked to 4.5ghz (if I understood that right) but stuttered like hell.

It was less about playing DOTA 2, and more about showing the combined load of DOTA 2 + CPU encoding. They wanted to show that Ryzen and the 6900k were the only two capable of handling it.

The comparison to the 6700K could be an indicator for the price point they target.

My bad then, sorry.

I was just expecting a simple fps-benchmark.

It's K!
I do understand all the criticism though as AMD haven't been on top for ages (not saying they're shit, just not as good as Intel).

Edit: I was wrong about both CPUs being benchmarked with Boost disabled. Ryzen had boost disabled, the 6900k didn't. It was a stock configuration, meaning it should boost to 3.5ghz under load (especially encoding, which people have tested at home).
Means their test was Ryzen at 3.4ghz VS 6900k at 3.5ghz instead of 3.2ghz like I thought.

---

The performance of a 6900k for the price of a 6700k would be an absolute steal. In no way do I believe they'll sell it that cheap.
In Canada it's 460$ CDN for the 6700k and 1400$ CDN for the 6900k.

I WISH this was an indicator of the price point they targeted.

There is no indication that the performance matches the 6900K. We only know that both CPUs can handle the load of game and encode combined without framerate drops. It is possible that the Zen does so with 95% utilization while the 6900K only uses 70% of its capabilities. The whole benchmark setup is misleading. Framerates at lowest graphics settings or x264 speeds would tell more.

It also doesn't prove that the Zen is faster that a 6700K for pure gaming. The encode in the background smothers the 4-core 6700K and lets the 8-core Zen win without a fight. It is still possible that the 6700K could provide higher framerates due to faster single threaded performance under realistic gaming conditions. The shady test setup makes me suspect the worst.
