So basically, been trying to convince my so that an imac is pointless and shit and whatnot performance wise compared to a PC. Now, she mostly likes it because of the design, the 5k display (because of the clarity) and the glass screen/slim design.

Do you happen to know of any other monitors like that? 27" 4k would be perfect. Only one i managed to find is this :

5k dell 2715k https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OKSFXZU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00OKSFXZU&linkCode=as2&tag=instafuze-20&linkId=LQ6RZD4KURQZ5GBV&th=1

It's cheaper here, as in 1050$, but still a bit too pricey imo. Doesn't need to be 5k, just 4k 27" and glassy screen like the imac and this one.

Thanks in advance.

what about a surface studio? Razz

the dell is awesome, BUT the display reflects heavily. so with sun from the side/behind its not great. and it fucking needs almost 100w power, thats more than a usual 55" 4k tv needs

It's 3000$ is it not? Way above the budget she's willing to spend.

sure its expensive as fuck, was more like a joke Wink

so srsly -> whats the application case of the monitor? without knowing what she intends to do with that display nobody can give you an advice. is it for gaming too? or photo editing stuff so we need a expensive display? or just the usual watching videos, office, holiday pictures and facebook case?

Top priority would be photo editing.
2nd browsing/watching clips (really low prio tho)
Even lower, gaming. Guess even a mac would do just fine, since she only plays tf2 but still, idk, macs feel like a waste to me considering what parts they got in them.
There's also no issue with Mac's OS vs Windows, she used both, had a mac in the past .. few years ago.

if its about serious photo editing check out the Eizo CS270

still one of the bests displays you can get for it, 27" and 1440p (which is imho enough)

if you want 4k check these out
Viewsonic VP2780
or cheaper
LG 27UD68-W

and apple recently put the price for that http://www.apple.com/de/shop/product/HKN62ZM/A/lg-ultrafine-5k-display thing down

though im not sure if it can be used with a dp-thunderbold adapter or whatever on usual pcs

If your SO wants that and you want something else, you'll eventually end up buying what she wants Laughing

LG 27UD68-P is the black version of that, might be much cheaper (the back of the monitor color).

I've got the cheap frame version of that LG 27UD58, pretty much same panel thou.

Blacks are good, colors pop, gaming works sweet.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but i think she's still gonna buy the mac, she wasn't impressed by the other options. I mostly wanted her to get a monitor so i could switch around from time to time as well when i got bored, also try out 4k/5k cause why not Laughing, slightly selfish i know ... but since she's buying it 90% for photo editing i guess i'll just leave that as it is.

The dell 2715k seemed like the only thing close to apple's 5k retina display with edge-to-edge, good contrast , color repro etc, but sadly i noticed it also had a lot of 1 star reviews due to issues with turning back on from sleep, having to unplug the cables and replug them every time it did that ... so yeah.
